It's only been a few days since the release of the PSP Go and its already getting an unofficial price cut in the UK. Numerous reports indicate that a number of retailers have already slashed 25UKP off of the price of the system already!

<blockquote>Barely three days after its launch, the PSPgo has already received a £25 price cut at major retailers such as Amazon.co.uk, Game.com, HMV.com and Play.com.

The PSPgo system features a sleek pocket-sized design that's more than 50 percent smaller and more than 40 percent lighter than the original PSP-1000. PSPgo incorporates a sliding screen that is both practical for the system's space-saving design and aesthetically appealing. The PSPgo system is designed for the portable digital lifestyle, offering 16GB of internal flash memory to store plenty of games, videos, music, and photos. The system also offers expandable storage through a slot that fits a Memory Stick Micro, an ultra-small card the size of a thumbnail with a current...

As part of his promotional activity for FIFA 10, Wayne Rooney has admitted that he regularly plays games after training for a good few hours. And apparently his wife is pretty supportive of his habit and leaves him in peace to play.

<blockquote>"I'll mostly play as Man Utd and a lot of mates I play online with will be Liverpool or Everton. I suppose I get used to seeing myself in a computer game. I shout at myself a lot on screen but I never substitute myself. That wouldn't be right." His devotion to the game is telling as we go head to head, with him as England and me as my native Scotland.</blockquote>

More fighting talk from the Forza 3 camp as their product manager has exclaimed that their racer beats Gran Turismo 5 on a lot of features. He noted it is these features that really take Forza really to the next level!

<blockquote>EGTV: How do you reckon Forza 3 stacks up against GT5?

"We've seen it on the floor, it's a good looking game, in terms of the content feature by feature, you know, I believe we beat them on a lot of the features as well our 400 hundred cars, they're fully built cars, full interiors, uh, fully damageable and deliveries just to mention that user created - user generated content really takes our game to the next level."

The guy's pretty confident in speech and according to him GT5 has nothing on Forza Motor Sport 3, which will be out exclusively for the Xbox 360 on October 23rd 2009. You know what's strange? I have this feeling GT5 fans are laughing their heads off, why? I have no clue, just a feeling. There's nothing to scoff at though, because so...

The studio head of the Gran Turismo 5 team has revealed that the pressure from Sony to release GT 5 is nearing unbearable. He noted that the content is all well and good but the pressure is really on for the delivery dates.

<blockquote>In an interview with Meristation, the studio's head Kazunori Yamauchi reveals that the pressure from Sony to release the game has at times been unbearable. In response to whether Sony pressured the studio on the game, Yamauchi-san replied:

"Not in terms of content, but the pressure really, if we can call it that, of the delivery dates are sometimes difficult to bear."

The relationship doesn't look like it's the closest, with Yamauchi-san's real family being at Polyphony:

"The most important people in my life and close work are of course employees Polyphony. We are like a family.

"On the other hand, some people at Sony helped me and help them grow professionally. And those people I work and my devotion I'm happy to help all I can,"...

Freeplay has confirmed that a number of unreleased PSP exploits DO work on the PSP go meaning Sony have not done their security jobs properly. Apparently the exploits have been floating around for a while and work on ALL systems and ALL firmwares.

<blockquote>Sony always seems to be desperately fighting against the homebrew community, trying to block us out of the systems we spent lots of our own cash on. Sadly, these guys really can't catch a break. I've already managed to update an exploit to work on the Go.

HERE'S THE BASICS:

It seems as if a developer has let slip that universal game recording is officially coming to the Xbox 360 courtesy of Microsoft. By universal video recording we're referring to the type of recording stuff you see in Halo 3.

<blockquote>In a meeting last week with a game developer at the Tokyo Game Show, I asked them if they were planning on trying to incorporate in-game video capture into their title. The type you see in Halo 3.

The answer was interesting and, I believe, accidental.

"We'd love to have video capture in our game, but why work on something that the platform holder is already developing," said the developer, who I'm keeping anonymous to cover for his accidental slip-up.

The idea of a universal, platform-level video capture system for games seems like a good idea, and one that fits in nicely with the plans that Microsoft has for the Xbox 360.

When I had a chance to sit down with Microsoft's Scott Austin, director of digital games at Live, I asked him...

Independent retailers in the UK have reacted furiously to the prices offered by some supermarkets in the UK for FIFA 10. Some supermarkets have gone to half the retail price for FIFA 10 and this has got some retailers calling for new legislation!

<blockquote>Independent UK retailers have reacted angrily to Tesco and Asda FIFA 10 promotions that have seen the supermarket giants selling the game at half its recommended retail price - and called for legislation to prevent the below cost selling of goods.

"It's bully boy pricing really," Chips MD Don McCabe told GamesIndustry.biz. "Other countries have laws against this selling at a loss for very good reason."

McCabe admitted that in the short term consumers get a good price, but said that in the longer term the closing of smaller retailers at the hands of the supermarket giants will result in less choice for those consumers.</blockquote>

Nintendo UK has confirmed that like the US it is to repair Wii consoles that were messed up by the v4.2 firmware update free of charge. A spokesperson noted a VERY small amount of those with non-modded consoles experienced problems with the update.

<blockquote>"We are aware of a very small number of reported problems with Wii consoles after updating to the Wii System Menu 4.2," said the platform holder in a statement.

"The symptoms described usually occur when a Wii console has been modified. However, there are a very small number of people reporting problems when a system has never been modified.

"If anyone is experiencing problems with their Wii console after downloading Wii System Menu 4.2, and believe their system has not been modified, please contact our customer service centre. If we find that you have a normal system and the update has caused your system to not work, we will repair it at no charge," added the statement. "Please do not return anything to our...

An SCEA art director has revealed that he tried to convince the director of the game to turn God of War into a First Person Shooter (FPS) title. However, the director didn't see this is a good idea so a FPS transformation never went ahead!

<blockquote>In conversation with CGSociety on the development of God of War III from the past till now, touching on some rather interesting info regarding the unique sets of character animations, the number of lights for each game object and the breadth of each level’s design, Feldman, when asked if there was any idea he could have used, remarked:

“I tried unsuccessfully to convince [Director] Stig to make ‘God of War III’ a first-person shooter. Kratos could have some truly badass huge weapons that rip gods to shreds. Unfortunately he didn’t see the genius in the idea</blockquote>

Sony has apologized to those folks that were no table to download the bonus car with the new Gran Turismo PSP game as well as those who ended up with buggy data upon their system due to the download!

<blockquote>Copies of Gran Turismo purchased at major retailers include a product code for a retail-specific bonus car. But those who rushed to pick up their copy of Gran Turismo PSP early today, then rushed back home to immediately download the car, might have been disappointed with what they got.

In a statement posted today to the PlayStation.jp site, Sony states that players were not actually able to download the bonus car until 1:30. But far worse, some players who were able to make the downloaded ended up with buggy data on their system.</blockquote>

Microsoft's UK boss has admitted that in some wishes he wishes that the 360 could be as agile as Sony is with the PS3. His comments come in specific references to all the non-game services the PS3 provides such as VidZone and Playstation Home.

<blockquote>He also continued to press the point that hardware is no longer the pointer to the future of the Xbox, "...the evolution of consoles in the future is all going to be around software and services".

In terms of the competition from Sony's PS3, and the fact that Sony has been pushing non-game aspects such as Vidzone, movies on demand, and Home, Thompson says, "In some ways I wish we were that agile."</blockquote>

A new survey published by an independent website suggested that 1/3 of Xbox 360's have got the RRoD. However, MS has since responded back to such studies and noted that the number of failures will be kept private but noted MS honours its extended warranty policy.

<blockquote>Earlier today we posted our official study of the Red Ring of Death and the corresponding results, once live we asked Microsoft's own Aaron Greenberg for his "official" response to said study; the entire quote is viewable below:

Thanks for your note.

There have been a lot of external “studies†on the failure rates of all consoles, not just the Xbox, and the numbers have been all over the map. The only people that know the actual numbers work for Microsoft, and the numbers are not something Microsoft or any other company would typically disclose for competitive reasons. What I do know is that more than two years ago, Microsoft addressed this issue by extending the warranty to three years for...

It looks as if the new Wii firmware update isn't just killing consoles! It also seems to be killing some Wii systems themselves according to reports on the internet.

<blockquote>Although initial reports suggested that the latest Wii update automatically only removes traces of the homebrew channel, there seems to be a much larger issue: It’s breaking some consoles.

The main issue lies in the actual update process. A program that allows the Wii to boot properly – boot2 – has also been upgraded but it apparently has a high chance of causing write errors. Because of this, some people are experiencing a frozen download screen when trying to download menu 4.2. The Wii will not respond if it’s frozen, and when you take the plug out…Nothing will happen when you boot it back up. This incident doesn’t seem to be happening to every Wii owner, but it looks like this could be a pretty significant problem nonetheless.</blockquote>
