EA's big boss has issued a stark warning to Nintendo. The warning is that they must innovate and if they don't, then they will have a hard time competing with what's coming up from MS and Sony. Likewise, he implied that they can not stay at $199 price point without producing something special.

Speaking at a UBS Media Conference, EA called the new Playstation mation controller the 'Playstation Gem'. Could this have been a slip of the tongue from EA? It seems so as Natal was also mentioned in the same sentence by them.

John Riccitiello refers to new tech as the PlayStation Gem at UBS Media Conference

Maybe he mis-spoke, maybe it was a slip of the tongue – or maybe, just maybe, EA boss John Riccitiello has accidentally leaked the name of Sony’s upcoming WiiMote contender, which until now has simply been referred to as the PlayStation motion Controller.

“In the coming year, both Sony and Microsoft have announced new controllers,†he stated. “Motion sensor controls, Natal and Gem, these are likely to bring new consumers into the marketplace.â€

Interesting stuff here from Famitsu. It looks as if the PS3 version of will look and sound better than the 360 version as Square Enix has had to do a lot of compression for the 360 version. And while FFXIII on the 360 will span across multiple dics, on the PS3 it will just take a single Blu-ray disc.

Brace yourselves, fanboys: A report in Famitsu (via FinalFantasy-XIII.net) says Final Fantasy XIII be graphically superior on the Playstation 3 compared to the Xbox 360 version, and it’ll sound better, too. That’s because Square Enix will use compressed video and audio on the Xbox 360 in order to fit the game on DVDs, while the Playstation 3’s Blu-ray drive affords a much greater storage capacity and won’t need compression. And even with the compressed assets, FFXIII will still spill onto multiple Xbox 360 DVDs, while the PS3 version is contained on a single, dual-layer Blu-ray disc. Fortunately, only the audiophiles and video nuts among us will notice the...

Microsoft and Disney have gone and got the support of the ever popular Jonas Brothers for their upcoming 'it's more fun time' Xbox 360 ad campaign. Such a star coup will ensure the 360 continues appeal to younger audiences.

If there is a hell I suspect that satan will pipe Jonas Brothers songs into every single room. Having said that, apparently the young girls swoon and their knees get weak at the sight of the trio that Disney made popular. They are so popular that Microsoft and Disney have decided to use them as part of the “It’s more fun time†Xbox 360 ad campaign currently airing on television.

Yahoo is currently reviewing some of the hot toys for this Xmas and the PS3 is included within their review. However, they have a major gripe with the PS3's controller noting that it's all fun and games until the battery dies and is 'glued shut'.

It's all fun and games until the battery dies. Unlike its competitors, which use replaceable AA batteries, the PS3's remote control is glued shut. When the battery goes, Sony customers have to blow $55 on a new controller. Sony says there's an "environmental benefit" since gamers don't have to toss their batteries on a regular basis, but Isidor Buchmann, president of battery-equipment maker Cadex Electronics, says captive batteries are becoming common because it's cheaper for companies to eliminate the battery housing and hatch.

EA has decided to pull the Fight Night Round 4 Champions Pack 2 DLC because of freezing issues. Apparently, they will release an updated, bug free version of the DLC in a few days after approvals by all the parties involved.

We regret to inform XBOX 360 users that due to the freezing issues that users have been experiencing when downloading Champions Pack 2, we have come to the tough decision to take the DLC down from XBL Marketplace, fix the issue, and look to prop up a corrected Champions Pack 2 in the near future. Unfortunately the fix requires a full pass of approvals by all parties involved and may take longer than a few days.

For users that have already downloaded the pack using the work around that was provided yesterday, you are fine to play with the new content. Though if there are locked items you have not yet purchased, you will not be able to unlock them until the updated version is released.

Again, we sincerely apologize to our users for having to...

Stephen Toulose of Microsoft has confirmed that MS is banning players from Xbox LIVE who use the 'Javelin Glitch' in Modern Warfare 2. Bans can last from as little as 24 hours to PERMANENTLY.

Stephen Toulouse, the director for policy and enforcement for the Xbox 360's Xbox Live online service, announced via Twitter on December 2 that Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 players who abuse the "javelin missile exploit" will be banned from the entire Xbox Live service. Depending on the severity of the abuse, the ban may last between 24 hours and a few weeks or, in extreme cases, the ban may be permanent.

The Modern Warfare 2 javeline exploit is when players intentially abuse a glitch in the online multiplayer. The player switches to the javeline missile launcher after "cooking" a semtex grenade by holding down the grenade throw button. This locks the player's actions, but once the player dies the javeline missile explodes, killing all enemies within an enormous...

We've managed to get our hands on a leaked video from the ZooZen R&D team which shows the development of a stunning Xbox 360 case. The 'Overcase' simply fits on via the front front face plate and instantly transforms the 360 into a far more attractive living room proposition. It also features extra cooling via 2 fans and an auto-sensing blue disc light effect.

EA has revealed a belief that the Wii is 'confounding' people as it is so big and successful. These comments come after thoughts that people are still 'grapping' with the Wii after the poor performance of titles such as Dead Space and Madden on the Wii.

He then defended EA's own Wii failures, noting that publishers (EA included) are still figuring the system out. "I think it's also fair to say that people are still grappling with it. I think Dead Space Extraction was one of the best pieces of software built on the platform and it did not perform well. It's a strong IP but for some reason it did not resonate in a way that brought consumers to the store to buy it. And Madden hasn't performed to my expectations so far this year, even though it's a fabulous piece of software. EA Sports Active and our Hasbro stuff have done really, really well. So you start to create a certain perception in your mind of the type of consumer that works on the Wii, that's a little...

A developer has asserted that consumers have suffered a lot when it comes to the Wii, because they have damaged by large amounts of substandard software. This has resulted in them only trusting the 'big' Nintendo brands.

Unfortunately, Prytherch asserts, consumers have suffered most. He said that they "have been damaged by a lot of substandard software," which has caused them to "only trust big Nintendo brands."

Those are some awfully strong words from a developer that has so far failed to attract the kind of market attention larger companies Ubisoft or Electronic Arts have. But he's not alone in his belief that Wii gamers aren't attracted to third-party games.

This seems more up Datel's street than Logitech's street, but apparently the latter company is developing a UMD drive add-on for the PSP GO. Now that is one interesting rumor!

Logitech UK claim to have never heard of such a peripheral, but concede that the PSP Go UMD drive “may be something the US office is working onâ€. Their US counterparts – and indeed Sony – are yet to comment. No word on pricing or availability from the source, and it seems bizarre that people might pick up the PSP Go and then have second-thoughts about the UMD drive from the full-sized PSP; surely if you had a back catalog of titles you still wanted to be able to play, you’d just buy the PSP-3000?
