Interesting to say the least. Nintendo has apparently gone and trademarked a load of 'Wii like' names including Cii, Bii, Oii, Yii and Zii. It's kind of like Pokemon, Nintendo simply has gotta catch 'em all.

That vocal MS figure Aaron Greenberg has allegedly told reporters that Gran Turismo 5 is a 'second rate exclusive' compared to all the exclusives that MS have in their ranks. So what do you think about that? We think GT is pretty much on par with Halo if not better depending on what you like?

Greenberg downplayed the significance of Gran Turismo 5, brushing it off as second-rate compared to Microsoft's own exclusives. "Is it launching next year? I've seen years and years of mini-games, but I haven't seen that the game is done," he brashly quipped in an interview with Gamasutra.

It's an uncalled for slam against a franchise that in no way competes with Microsoft's Halo series that Greenberg claims is better. Have we mentioned the 53 million Gran Turismo games that have been sold?

Ouch! An Xbox 360 owner is claiming that MS literally smashed his 360 to pieces after it got the RRoD. The damage done to the Xbox 360 looks so bad, that even Tiger Wood's golf club swinging wife would be impressed by it. Image below:

Geez. What the hell is Microsoft using to punish misbehaving Xboxes? This thing looks worse than the one attacked by a crazy chick and a golf club. But we're certain that if Nic contacts Microsoft and shows them these photos of his naughty Xbox, they're sure to send him a replacement. Possibly even one that works. (Provided, of course, that this damage wasn't caused by Nic when he got the unit back, unrepaired, or by yet another nutty girlfriend.)

Nintendo has revealed that the very latest DS revision was nearly called a barrage of other names including the DSi Comfort, DSi Executive and DSi Living. The respective names seem a bit 'odd' now, or do they?

Nintendo's latest DS hardware revision is known as DSi LL here in Japan and DSi XL elsewhere. But the naming could have been different. It seems that Nintendo went through a variety of names before finalizing on LL and XL.

As detailed in the newly posted Iwata Asks column about the DSi LL hardware, Nintendo' staffers considered such names as "DSi Comfort," "DSi Executive," "DSi Premium" and "DSi Living."

At one point, the company decided to use the Nintendo DSi XL name throughout the world, including Japan.

Sony has once again mentioned the dreaded phrase of 'monthly fees' but this time in relation to game download services and avatar items. Previously, it was indicated that they could consider charging for PSN rather like Xbox LIVE.

Servers and the like have running costs, and we would face difficulties if our business depended solely on the sell-and-forget model. After we sell the hardware, though, we continue to sell products such as content and services.

We expect to see considerable growth in digital content, such as game download services, avatar items and the like.

We can also accept payment in a growing number of ways. In addition to single-payment packaged software, there are also schemes like monthly fees or per-item charges. I think this variety of payment methods will bring about a diverse range of playing methods, too.

Sony has revealed to Nikkei that the PS3 could have been even smaller IF they had left the power supply on the outside. However, they revealed that if they had done this, then there would have been issues with transport and easy use. But what do you think? Would you prefer the Slim to be even smaller with an external PSU, or is it fine the way it is?

It was pretty tough to squeeze a power-hungry piece of equipment like the PS3, drawing up to 250W, into a case this small, complete with power supply. I think it's a very advanced design, and am really proud of the engineers who achieved it. True, the case could have been made even smaller if we'd left the power supply on the outside, but that would have imposed restrictions on transport and use, making it harder to use freely.

Metacritic, the highly popular reviews aggregation site has revealed that the PS3 is this year's power ranking champion. The award takes into account a number of factors despite the 360 having the highest scoring games. However, the Wii did receive the HIGHEST amount of titles over the year at 362.

Reviews aggregation site Metacritic has revealed its 2009 Game Platform Power Rankings charts, and it’s the PS3 that has emerged as this year’s champion.

The chart combines a number of factors but is designed to name the platform that has consistently delivered the best quality software over the last 12 months.

Xbox 360 was the console that actually finished with the highest number of positively reviewed games, with 88 titles scoring 75 or higher overall. In addition, the Wii received the highest number of new titles – 362 throughout the year.

According to a report from market research firm iSuppli, Sony's introduction of the PS3 slim should mean that the PS3 will finally break even in 2010. The reports suggests that Sony has cut the cost of manufacturing a PS3 to $336.27 meaning that Sony are now only losing $37.27 per system sold. In comparison, iSuppli estimated that in October 2008 Sony were losing $49.72 per system sold.

Drake's latest crusade is particularly interesting in light of the game's drop from number one in October to complete obscurity in November.

Big statement here from MS, but then again it is a Halo title they are talking. Product manager Aaron Greenberg has gone on record to suggest that Halo Reach will be the biggest game of 2010.

Once the topic turned to exclusives, Greenberg couldn't resist talking about the Bungie-developed, Xbox 360 exclusive Halo: Reach, which he is sure will be the biggest game of 2010. When asked if perhaps Sony's Gran Turismo 5, which is set to launch in Japan in March and is likely to launch in the West in 2010 as well, might give it a run for its money, Greenberg was dismissive.

"Is it launching next year?" he mused. "I've seen years and years of minigames, but I haven't seen that the game is done. They just released the PSP version -- maybe that's what they've been working on. I feel confident that there's nothing that will compare in size. Halo: Reach will be the biggest game of 2010."

According to reports, a while ago Reggie Fils-Aime of Nintendo revealed a real belief that the New Super Mario Bros. for Wii will outsell Modern Warfare 2 over the holiday season. However, as most people thought, this prediction is completely way off as Mario can't come close to MW 2 in terms of sales.

If you recall, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime stated last month that New Super Mario Bros. Wii will outsell Call of Duty
:Modern Warfare 2 over the holiday season. The first leg of the race is over and it's not looking so great for Mario.

The November 2009 NPD report reveals that Modern Warfare 2 sold 4.2 million copies in the month on the Xbox 360. New Super Marios Bros. Wii, meanwhile, racked up a little under 1.4 million. Fils-Aime claimed that Mario would overtake MW2 by the end of January. There's still a lot of time left but they've got a big hole to climb out of, here.

Let this be a message to all juvenile theives out there. A seattle man interrupted a bunch of thieving kids who were trying to steal his Xbox 360. After chasing the kids, he managed to catch one and march him all the way up to the police station!

A group of burglars learned the hard way not to mess with a Seattle man's Xbox.

The man was asleep in his home in the 7800 block of 32nd Avenue South just before 2 p.m. Wednesday when he heard noises in another room. The man got up to investigate and saw three juveniles in his house.

One of the boys was carrying the victim's Xbox 360. When the would-be thieves saw the man they dropped the property and ran from the house.

The man chased the boys and caught one of them. He then marched the kid back to the house, and called police.

Officers booked the boy into the Youth Service Center for investigation of burglary.
