According to reports, a number of users have had success in dumping the complete firmware of the previously 'un moddabke' LITEON drives. The method is very technical, but will potentially provide MS with another head-ache as it is possible that these drives can now be flashed as well.

There have been several news reports on Xboxhacker.net of users having success in dumping the entire firmware including the important keys of the newest un-moddable Liteon DVD drives. The methods posted so far are not for the beginner so do so at your own risk. The method seem crude at the moment, no doubt some easier methods will surface shortly. Remember with that DVD key you can install any flash-able DVD drive to that once un-moddable Xbox 360. Good job to all involved !

The Royal Navy sailors in the UK are being issued with PSPs in order to help them with their training. Apparently, the PSP units come preloaded with slides and commentary which are about 8-12 minutes per training session.

While the US builds PS3-based grids for cracking passwords, the UK is buying Sony Playstation Portable (PSP) units and issuing them to Royal Navy sailors for use in training. The units come preloaded with study packages of slides and commentary and are about 8-12 minutes per session.

The first to receive the devices are marine warfare engineering technicians, who maintain the fleet’s radar, sonar, VHF radio and communications systems. If the PSPs are a success, their distribution could be widened throughout the Navy, starting with air and marine engineers but potentially to many other disciplines.

Following on from our news regarding the bugs in NBA 2K10, 'Pheonix' has written to let us know about similar problems with NHL 2K10. For example, it is difficult to get online with it, there are game freezes and crashes. And while the 360 version has a patch, there is nothing for the PS3. What do you think, are 2KGames playing a very foolish game?

According to reports, a brand new technology will allow Criminal Investigation teams to visit a '3D World' and solve their REAL LIFE crimes. Apparently the game technology will allow them to get a better picture of what happened at a crime scene and FASTER.

Criminal investigation teams are about to go virtual with the announcement of brand new technology that will allow investigators to visit a 3-D gameworld and solve real-life crimes.

The technology will help forensic teams come together faster to paint a picture of what happened at a crime scene.

“The problem is that while there have been major advancements in the field of forensic science technology, how investigative teams come together to collaborate has not changed over the years,†said Dr. Mitzi Montoya, Zelnak Professor of Marketing and Innovation Management at North Carolina State University (NC State).

According to The Telegraph, Microsofts strategy of charging for all content on XBOX LIVE has delayed the launch of iPlayer on the 360. It seems as if MS can not find a deal with the BBC based on their desire for the dollars.

According to sources close to the BBC’s Future Media and Technology department, a deal between the two parties has still been unable to be reached because Microsoft’s strategy of charging for all content on its Xbox Live platform is incompatible with the BBC’s public service remit.

“Microsoft only wants to offer its users access to platforms it can charge for as this is the model it is pursuing. It wants to ensure that only those paying for Xbox Live Gold accounts can access its additional content services and even then there is usually a charge on top to get access to those. For example, to access the Sky Player on Xbox, you have to pay for a Gold subscription as well as a Sky subscription,†explained one of the sources close to the...

Looks like Wii officially has its worst ever game so far and this award goes to Wheelspin from Bethesda. The game has received a score of just 11 percent from the Official Nintendo Magazine with its abysmal graphics and 'beyond a joke' handling.

How about that eight-player splitscreen? That's got to be fun, right? Admittedly, we like how well it detects every type of controller that's connected: we played with three GameCube controllers, three Remotes, a Nunchuk and a Classic Controller. Then the race started and it was business as usual. Those '60 frames a second' claims were blown out of the water and it became abundantly clear that it doesn't matter how many people are playing if the game's still as fun as having a bath with defensive hedgehogs. We started with eight players and by the end of the race only three were still playing. Others had either given up in frustration or crashed near the loop-the-loop and were caught in an endless cycle that saw them...

Comments made by a manager at MS indicate that they think that its Natal technology could eventually replace TV remotes in the future. The idea is that the folks in the room could schedule content automatically based on their needs.

The forthcoming Project Natal motion control technology could replace the television remote control in the future, automatically scheduling content according to the people in a room, according to comments made by Xbox Live general manager Marc Whitten.

Speaking at the Streaming Media West show, as reported by Yahoo! Tech, Whitten described the increasing number of video applications - which includes Netflix in the US and Sky Player in the UK - on the Xbox 360 as the "biggest surprise" of his job.

Whitten also predicted that the increasing range and number of sources for video content required a new, easier to use controller than the traditional remote control - and that Project Natal was well placed to take over this role....

BioWare has revealed an aim to do all PS3 development in-house from now on following the good experience it had from working on the console version of Dragon Age: Origins.

BioWare plans to do PlayStation 3 development in-house from now on following the positive experience it had working on the console version Dragon Age: Origins (you'll find our review here).

"We think it's one of the key platforms, obviously, so we're definitely going to be doing PS3," BioWare final boss Greg Zeschuk told Joystiq when asked whether the studio would take control of PS3 development itself.

"You know, I can't say anything about Mass Effect in that regard but you know, I can definitely say Dragon Age and other things we do will definitely be on PS3.

Normally at this stage of consoles we'll be looking at that the future may bring. However claims there are ten reasons why we don't care for next gen consoles at this stage: 1) Modern consoles evolve, 2) high dev costs mean safer games, 3) sequel delays, 4) 3D gaming is coming without hardware, 5) New controller interfaces are coming, 6) gaming is about more than graphics, 7) consoles are about more than gaming, 8) Stability is good, 9) We're not made of many and lastly a new console doesn't guarantee market share.

According to reports, the box of Final Fantasy XIII has been leaked. And with this news comes some little tidbits of information such as: No mandatory install, 1080P full HD for CGI sequences but the game does naturally run in 720P.

Specifically, the back of the box states that the game has No Optional or Mandatory install, only using up 500kb of hard drive space for a save game. This is great news for PS3 owners, and indicates that the game will run as smoothly as the demo did.

The image also confirms that the PS3 version will have super high quality LPCM 5.1 audio and the CGI sequences will be in full 1080p HD rather than the 720p that was feared.

While the game itself does run in 720p, this means the FMVs on PS3 will be of the highest possible quality. This may be the advantage PS3 will have over Xbox 360, as fitting lossless audio and large FMVs on a DVD will prove difficult.

Do bear in mind that this is an unconfirmed leak, so take the details on the...

According to reports, there appears to be some 'evidence' or at least indication that Sony is to open its PSP and PS3 platforms to third party applications OFFICIALLY.

Sony has always had an unusual relationship with third party software (we're not talking games). The PS2 explicitly allowed the running of Linux on it. The PS3 came with Linux support, which ended up with some institutions buying PS3s in bulk in order to run them in parallel as a cheap sort of super-computer (there's no cheaper way to get the Cell chip, apparently). Then Sony removed the Linux option from the PS3 Slim.

Sony has constantly battled with homebrew on the PSP. It has always been in the name of piracy, but the end result has been that it has been impossible to run third-party applications on the PSP, and the ability to do so on the PS3 has effectively been removed.

It was therefore a little surprising to see just how the Digital Comics feature has been implemented on the PSP. Although...

According to reports, MS has filed a patent for the Xbox 360 which will allow you to pull up a list of hints and tips from a database for your favourite games. The tips and guides are expected to be submitted by other gamers who have already dealt with the tricky spots in the respective game titles.

Xbox 360 games could soon include a new system to give you tips and guides submitted by other gamers when you get stuck according to a Microsoft patent. Will Microsoft’s system for cheats, prosper?

A patent for an Xbox 360 hint system submitted by Andre Vrignaud, Microsoft’s Director of Games Platform Strategy, revealed the plan to help gamers through tricky spots. If you find yourself stuck the game will pull up a list of hints and tips from a database.

Developers would be able to create guides to include in games but the interesting part is that users would also be able to submit their own handy hints.

A new method has been found to 'uncripple' your Xbox 360 hard drive if you were hit by the recent ban. The method is pure HEX editing in the NAND image and no CPU key is needed. However, this does NOT unban your console from Live.

The developer of Crackdown 2 Ruffian Games has revealed that its relationship with Microsoft and the Xbox 360 controller is a 'big reason for sticking with the 360'. However, the developer also noted that they do not think of themselves as a 360 exclusive developer for the rest of time.

Crackdown 2 developer Ruffian Games has said that its relationship with Microsoft and the Xbox 360 controller "is a big reason for sticking with the 360", but that it doesn't think of itself "as exclusively 360 for the rest of time".

Talking with Square Go on the subject of Ruffian developing multiplatform titles in the future, Crackdown 2's producer James Cope said:

"We've been working with Microsoft for a long time so we have a lot of experience with the 360 but not so much with the PS3.

"We don't think of ourselves as exclusively 360 for the rest of time. As a company we have to keep things open and think about how to survive without Microsoft sometime in the future but...

According to reports, State Authorities in New York are testing out the possibility of warning younger people about emergencies (terrorists, nuclear attacks and all that stuff) through the Xbox. Interesting, stuff, whatever helps spread the message is surely a good thing?

Gamers are used to confronting invading terrorists, nuclear attacks, and natural calamities—in virtual form. But those living in New York State could soon receive warnings about real emergencies through their favorite video console.

State authorities are testing a plan that would see the Emergency Management Office issue alerts over online gaming networks in addition to regular channels.

A Swedish company has created a new 'Elegant' case for the Xbox 360. It doesn't look too bad, although it does make the Xbox quite a lot more 'boxy' we think. Picture inside.

Designed by Sweden’s Industri Repro, the XBEE (XB Elegant Edition) offers a complete retrofit for the look of the Xbox 360, putting its guts inside a streamlined rectangular box that would look great in any media room equipment rack alongside your schmancy A/V components.
