Reggie Fils-Aime has revealed that the next version of the Wii will not be just HD enabled, rather it will have additional capability. He added that there will be additional elements but they will be 'far into the future'.

<blockquote>He said: "The fundamental issue in the logic flow is that — and this is what I'm hearing, whether it's from you or Geoff or Michael himself — is that, gosh it's such an opportunity to take HD capability and link it with the Wii. And what we have said, repeatedly, is that that's not the way we at Nintendo do things. The way we at Nintendo do things is, you know, when we will move to a new generation, it's because there are some fundamental things the [current] console cannot do. What that says is that simply the addition of HD capability will not be the next step for us. There will be more to it. There will be additional capability. There will be additional elements, and, given that, it is far into the future."

In jest, I replied: "So, no...
AC has provided a new analysis on why the banning of 360's is a bad move from MS. The argument revolves around the idea that banning systems was foolish considering we are entering the holiday season now. The bans are causing confusion, for example at GameStop a mother bought a PS3 for her son instead of an Xbox 360 because she thought he could get banned for downloading content.

<blockquote>By banning modded X-Box 360s right now, Microsoft is sending a message to not only those customers that have hacked their X-Box 360s, but also to those that are considering purchasing an X-Box 360 in the future. This is especially true for those that will be purchasing on during the holiday shopping season. Microsoft is pushing the fact that they will not stand for those people that use their X-Box-360s in any way other than it was intended.

I was at GameStop the other day and listened to a customer's questions about Microsoft's banning of modded X-Box 360s. The worker tried to explain...

A technology editor at Cnet ponders whether banned Xbox 360's mean the rise of the PS3? And it looks like this is indeed happening. His perspective is coming in from Indonesia but it's arguably even more relevant to this side of the world as well.

<blockquote>The only way to get an official and potentially non-banned console would be to handcarry it from Singapore (which can bring on other issues, especially with customs).

So who might be the winners here? Interestingly enough, it could be the PS3. Despite Indonesia's rampant software piracy, Sony a few months back officially launched the PSP Slim and the PS3 to the Indonesian market. Thus, gamers can officially buy the console and games locally, which is probably helped by the fact that the PS3 is one of the harder consoles to mod (or crack).

Plus, Modern Warfare 2 is also available on the PS3. Price-wise, the console is slightly more expensive and the games must all be "oris" or originals that follow the US pricing...

According to reports, federal officers are using the PS3 to protect children and catch child predators in real life. Apparently the processing power of the PS3 makes it perfect for 'large scale library attacks' and hunting down the vile offenders.

<blockquote>But some federal officers are using the gaming console to protect children and catch predators in real life.

"Bad guys are encrypting their stuff now, so we need a methodology of hacking on that to try to break passwords," said Claude E. Davenport, a senior special agent at the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Cyber Crimes Center, known as C3. "The Playstation 3 - its processing component - is perfect for large-scale library attacks."

C3 focuses on transnational Internet crimes, including child pornography that has crossed national boundaries. Those illegal images typically originate in Third World or developing countries, Davenport said. But when the child pornography enters the United States via placement...

According to reports, God of War III is set to feature an online cooperative mode. Some guy claims to verify this as he has access to the Sony retail loyalty site and seen it mentioned there.

<blockquote>You read it right! God of War III will feature online cooperative modes. There have been rumors flying across the web regarding cooperative modes for God of War III, but I am here to confirm it to all. March 2010 just cannot come soon enough!</blockquote>

An 18 year old man has been arrested following allegations that he held a victim at gunpoint and forced him to buy a PS3 from Walmart. Here's a message to the man, get a job and buy your own PS3, it would be a whole lot easier

<blockquote>Collier deputies arrested a Naples teenager on allegations he held a victim at gunpoint and forced him to buy a Playstation 3 at the local Walmart.

David Daniels, 18, of 4th Street, faces felony armed robbery and kidnapping charges.

The victim, Kyle Yarkosky, 18, met deputies in front of the Juliet Boulevard Walmart on Monday evening. He told them that Daniel forced him to buy the video game console moments earlier.</blockquote>

Sony has commented that they definitely read all feedback across selected forums and their own websites. However, they also noted that they can not do complete testing for their PS3 firmware because you just never know how things will work it when a lot of people have it.

“We absolutely read all the feedback that we see on our blog when we do firmware updates. We have people who look across different forums and different sites. And we also do our own testing – some very extensive testing..â€

“But in some cases, we can’t do complete testing because you never quite know how things will work until users have it.â€</blockquote>

Reports indicate that Assassin's Creed 2 has been leaked on the 360 platform already. But moreover, it seems that Ubisoft is doing all it can to prevent spoilers by forcing Youtube to remove all leaked videos of the game.

We are getting used to the fact that pirates do play most of the games (if not all) before their official release dates. Today, it seems that Ubisoft upcoming action-adventure is the newest victim. The prove to this is the video below, which contains the first 9:18 minutes of the game. I don’t recommend to anyone who is planning to get the game to watch this, as it contains a lot of spoilers. You have been warned.

It seems that Youtube is removing any leaked videos related to Assassin’s Creed 2. While we don’t encourage pirating games, the game is available on numerous torrent sites. I have to mention this in order to prove that the game is actually leaked.</blockquote>

It looks as if Microsoft's efforts to ban all those 360's has made hackers pretty angry! According to reports, C4eva has a new firmware in the works with all features of it indistinguisable from the original so there will be NO MORE bans!

<blockquote>4Eva announced he's working on a new firmware on IRC:
"[c4eva] new fw in dev/test - ixtreme LT (Lite Touch) - more efficient , minimal patching , all aspects of fw indistinguisable from orig, no more bans, No ETA!"

We do not have more details atm.
As far as we know the 3 'test boxes' C4Eva has running (see here) are still fine (not banned).</blockquote>

It was inevitable that the hacking scene would fight back in some way to the bans that MS has imposed on modified systems. And it looks as if they have now found a super technical way to un-ban recently banned Xbox 360's but it looks to require a heck of a lot of 'know how'.

<blockquote>"what you need:

your 8955 live console + cpu key
a 2nd unbanned console
nandpro b + flash cable
xell loader
1888 fs
robinsod's flashtool

use nandpro and dump nand from unbanned console.
flash xell and use jtag hack to obtain cpu key.
use flashtool to extract file system.

dump nand from 8955 console.
use flashtool to patch nand dump with kv.bin from unbanned console.
save patched file (patched_kv.bin).

open degraded + 1888 fs.
create 1888 downgrader image (downgrader.bin) from your patched_kv.bin file.

flash downgrader.bin to 8955 console.
attach hdd + ethernet cable and boot console.

connect to live and update to 8955 dashboard....

Here is the official break-down of sales:

IGN has reviewed New Super Mario Bros. Wii and while they really like it and state you should buy it, they also note the game is weakened by a number of factors including a lack of innovation and online play. Overall it scored an 8.9.

<blockquote>I really, really like New Super Mario Bros. Wii. I have no qualms with saying this is a far better game than the Nintendo DS version, and it could easily be the finest Super Mario Bros. 2D platformer Nintendo's ever created. You should absolutely get a copy, no question.

But, and it's a big "but," Nintendo did not use this opportunity wisely. For as big a project as this could have been, this game's impact is weakened by many factors. It plays it safe with established gameplay with very little in the way of new innovation. It also lacks online multiplayer in a generation where such a feature is expected.

I had a great time plowing through all eight worlds (and then some), but the nagging feeling of it seeming like a step...
An analyst has denoted that the Xbox Live service is around 12-18 months ahead of PSN. The analyst noted that by Xbox adding instant streaming of 1080P video, integrated social networking features and Project Natal, the company will be in the best possible position to maximize sales over the next few years.

<blockquote>Olausson is described on his Strategy Analytics profile as an "authority on online media and communications services and has expertise on online services such as Online Video, Online Music, Online Gaming, IP-based TV, Voice-over-IP, Video-On-Demand and much more".

"Xbox 360 continues to pull ahead of the competition when it comes to delivering on a complete home entertainment experience and we think that Xbox LIVE currently is about 12 to 18 months ahead of its main rival PlayStation Network when it comes to offering service and content beyond traditional games," said Olausson. "By introducing innovative new services and content such as Natal, instant...
