According to some reports related to Apple’s next generation 3D mapping attempt -which was officially announced by the company at this year WWDC- seems that they have hired a fleet of private spy planes with “military standard” cameras that can spot objects just a few centimetres wide.
This is part of Apple’s purchase of a Swedish 3D mapping firm last year called C3 Technologies, and the new maps aim to rival those created by Google.
However, some people are already saying they will be snooping into everyone's private lives. For example if you were sunbathing or playing in your garden, the cameras would be able to see you clearly. I think no one would want that?
Anyway, in relation to the new Maps by Apple, here are some details revealed at WWDC, confirming the '3D' rendering:
Maps includes all of the features you've come to expect from the previous iOS solution, but with a number of enhancements. This all new mapping solution includes 100 million different business listings, Yelp integration and, biggest of all, turn-by-turn navigation. The app does use anonymously collected data to populate traffic information and any rerouting is brought to your attention with a pop-up notification.
The maps are even rendered in full 3D, not unlike what Google announced last week. |
Apparently, the new maps will be available with the upcoming iOS 6 release.
