Ubi DRM and Online servers go down.

Seems that Ubisoft's uPlay went down this weekend. Users have complained in its official forums, however, replies from Ubi support included a link to instructions for deleting their accounts...

That's right, Ubisoft's uPlay -the online service used for validating the digital rights management on PC games- has been down this weekend.
Of course, that means PC games that use it aren't working. Nobody knows if this is an scheduled maintenance or something like that, because nothing was announced.
Angry users have complained in its official forums, and here's the funny part: One user posted the trouble ticket he opened about the outage and the reply included a link to instructions for deleting one's account...
Good afternoon,
After reading the forums and finding no way to fix this issues on my end the only other option left is to submit a trouble ticket to you to get this issue fix.
I am unable to login to uplay PC client at all.
I am able to reset my password which i have done 2 or 3 time and this still doesn't let me login.
I would like to get this issues fixed.

Good afternoon,
I don't want to Delete My account! Why would you send me that information.
There are a number of people on the forums posting about this and you want me to delete my account.
I wish to keen my Uplay account and use it I wish to be able to play the Ubisoft games that I have purchused.
I simply cannot login via the Uplay PC client.
How do I fix this issues.

Yes, sadly, this is happening in the middle of the Steam Summer Sale...
A lot of the forum anger comes from people who picked up a new copy of a game today and simply cannot play it. Some are offering workarounds to boot the game in offline mode, but most are venting their understandable displeasure.

Some users have suggested to keep hitting the "login" button, and if you are lucky, you can get inside, but you have to retry for a long time. So, it isn't a "real" solution.
Ubisoft hasn't said anything about this, so there's no estimate of when uPlay will return.
So, Y U NO PLAY UPLAY?

It seems that the Uplay service is back Online. A representative for the publisher has issued an apology for the inconvenience, without giving any other details:
