PS Vita FW 1.80 locks memory cards to one user account and blocks VHBL!!

PS Vita FW 1.80 locks memory cards to one user account and blocks VHBL!!
Added by Gauss on 28.08.2012

Yeah, we got PS One classics but...

WARNING! It looks like the new Vita firmware 1.80 ties memory cards to a single PSN account. Furthermore, it is now impossible -for now- to copy VHBL and Homebrew to the Memory Card!

We've informed you about the new PS Vita FW update v1.80, which finally adds PSOne Classics support, amont other things...

However, the new features come at a cost.

First, Firmware 1.80 ties memory cards to a single PSN account, meaning users can no longer store data from multiple accounts on one memory card. According to NeoGaf, those who try to switch accounts will get the following message:

The memory card inserted in your system is linked with the following Sony Entertainment Network account.
[account name]
To use the memory card with your PS Vita system you must format the memory card.
If you format the memory card, all data on the memory card will be deleted.

Those who try to switch accounts will be asked to format the memory card, which will erase all data stored. So, be sure to Backup all your saves if they are on a different account, before updating!!

AND, there's more. The new FW also blocks VHBL. How? Sony blocked the ability to copy it (and also all the Homebrew) to the PS Vita MC. According to wololo:

I have good and bad news. The good news is that, as far as I could see, VHBL still runs fine on firmware 1.80. The bad news is, it is impossible to copy it to the PS Vita. The version I tested had been installed before the update to 1.80, but sadly I could confirm the 1.80 update prevents us from copying the VHBL files, ad well as homebrews, to the memory card.

Vita firmware 1.80 comes with a forced CMA update (open CMA, sadly, didn’t help to prevent that), which, among other things, has a series of more advanced checks on the files it copies from and to the Vita. Remember how we could put anything we wanted in the PSP savedata folders, and get CMA to copy that to the vita? install.zip, h.bin, etc, etc… well, all of this is over, and now only the allowed files for each specific save seem to be accepted.

Several people are already looking into this, but for now it means that our long awaited VHBL release is, at the very least, postponed, if not worse.

So, there you go. You are now warned. But also, stay tuned, as wololo and the rest of the Vita 'scene' are looking for solutions. Let's hope they find one soon!
