According to Forbes, Microsoft is spending between $1.5 billion and $1.8 billion on its Windows 8 marketing campaign, triple the amount the company reportedly spent on the Windows Phone 7 launch in 2010, which was the last huge shift for MS.
Apparently, the ad campaign will kick off this weekend alongside pre-orders of some Windows 8 PCs and tablets. Also, another product Microsoft is clearly funneling advertising dollars into is Surface.
Microsoft has reportedly been working with advertising agency Crispin Porter + Bogusky to prepare its Windows 8 ads. Although these ads will air on national TV stations, Microsoft has also taken a less-than-traditional approach to its Surface ads. A number of ads across subway stations and walls have been spotted over the past months, with the "click in" tagline. |
Remember, Microsoft is set to launch Windows 8 and Surface on Oct. 26, with special holiday pop-up stores opening in US cities to allow consumers to purchase its Surface tablets at midnight. Additionally, the Windows Phone 8 launch is scheduled for Oct. 29.
