Well, this is really an uncharacteristic move from Nintendo's president Satoru Iwata. Using the official japanese Nintendo Twitter, he made a comment about some of the recent rumors and articles from the japanese newspaper Nikkei.
In one of them, Iwata is quoted as saying if Nintendo stayed the way it was headed, the company would collapse: "If we keep going like this, we'll collapse."
Well, apparently that's not what he really said or meant to say, so he commented on Twitter to address the "gossip":
"By the way," Iwata tweeted, "on Monday there was an inaccurate report online. This sort of thing has continued repeatedly, with no context, self-serving language, and the blurring of truth and fiction. I'm astonished to see gossip magazine techniques being used." |
Well, looks like Iwata was a bit mad. And it's a weird move, because he almost never comments over rumors. But, also, this isn't really a new issue, as the company president has been "misinterpreted" many times by the same newspaper, just like when he mentioned a DS successor.
Seems the Japanese press, isn't always right and neither is Nintendo. But, in general, the Nikkei's track record is generally pretty good.
