According to WayForward's Matt Bozon, the GBC platformer game could arrive to the 3DS VC soon. Also, looks like the series will continue at some point...

According to WayForward's Matt Bozon, Shantae, the Game Boy Color platformer game which many consider a classic, could be arriving to the 3DS Virtual Console soon.
Currently, WayForward is waiting to hear back from the ESRB, and after that, it will be up to Nintendo to decide when exactly the game will come out.
The game was published by Capcom originally, and as such, the Capcom logos will be removed for the Virtual Console release. WayForward holds rights to the game.

Another game in the series is always on the mind of WayForward, specifically series mastermind Matt Bozon, but they are currently determining when and where the series will continue.

As you may know, the game received a DSiWare sequel (Risky's Revenge), which came out in 2010, so it wouldn't be crazy to assume that -if true- the new one will be aimed for the 3DS eShop.
