UMD Movie Firmware Compatibility List

Tried to find a list what umd-movies work with FW 1.5 and which require 1.51 / 1.52 / 2.00 or 2.50. This includes some tricks like using version changer, using DevHook/UMDEmu or even dumping to get it working on 1.5 - And there´s also possibility to use SXT Firmware Changer to get 1.52, which is needed for some or many movies....

I thought to make categories. First is Category A, which means fully compatible to 1.5 without any tricks

I've tested Bad Boys and it plays on unmodified v1.5 PSP Japanese and also on a USA PSP without any tricks :)

Well, it seems, the absolute majority of UMD movies work with 1.5 flawlessly... that´s great news.... any more 1.52 or even 2.0 movies recognized ?

Anyone who can confirm, if SXT Firmware Emulation with 1.52 works to play the listet 1.52 movies ? Oh, maybe the demo disk ?

You can add The Matrix UMD to CAT A. It works perfectly without any tricks of any kind and there is NOT any update on disc.

Edit: This was for the Region 1 UMD.

i just bought old boy Region 2 (europe) and it needs firmware 2.50 !! or 2.0 maybe but the update 2.50 is in the umd ... too bad

Ok, I just got Bouncy: Virtual Lap Dances vol. 1, the so-called 1st XXX PSP movie, but you need to version 2.00 to play it. I tried to use the umdemulator v0.8c and it freezes the screen. Is there any way of making it work directly from the UMD without putting on my memory card?

You can also add Robocop to the Category A list. It definately works with 1.5 & has no firmware updates.

Land of the Dead (R2) works fine on v1.50 no tricks, Equilibrium (R2) NEEDS v1.52+ to run, version changer does not solve the problem.

i just got the umd...and its play fine on my 1.50 USA PSP with umd emu 0.8c with region free settings on..but the movie freeze completly at some point...i can skip these parts with fast forward but then it freeze somewhere else...the movie doesnt require any fw updates...i didnt tricked the version of my fw either...I just booted with umd emu 0.8c...anybody has this problem?? :confused:

I tried this using SXT version changer to 2.00, and also DevHook and UMD Emulator 0.8, nothing would work until I fully updated using the 2.00 update on the disc.

Stealth (region 2) doesn't work on 1.50. It probably requires 2.00+ because there is a 2.00 filmware update on the disk.

The Matrix R2 plays fine on my 1.5 R2 Jap PSP, also plays fine on my R3 1.5 PSP - suggests to me that it's probably region free.

Also to further verify this when the disk loads it comes up with "Rated R" which is the American not UK rating meaning that probably one disk was manufactured for all regions

Also Shawshank Redemption R2 will not play on 1.5 needs 1.52 fw.

does this work on 1.5? i live in Europe and have a European PSP. I don't know which region it is i think region 2 right? anyways...i read that guy's post of that it works no update is on the disc. But i'm assuming that's the american version. I don't know if this umd is out in europe...but the dvd is. If it works for the american...it should work for the european too right? but they probably place a higher firmware on it :( just need to know...it someone has it or someone knows when it will be released in Europe(The Netherlands specifically...) then let me know if it works on 1.5 please.

i tested the 2.0 Uk umd movie after a real 2.0 update on my U.S 1.5 and it played great...but wanted to get back to 1.5 and did....the settings i used in the new devhook were as follows


Movie UMD in of course
UMD Select - UMD Disc
UMD Mount - UMD Disc
UMD Version - 2.xx ->2.00
Firmware - 2.50+2.00
CPU Clock....Either 222 or 333
Boot Select - Reboot XMB

started it off and couse it wasnt a game umd it went to xmb showing no disc...all i did then was scroll to the video section and it was showing up...it would't run but disc was spinning up....i took umd out of drive put it back in and it ran

tried many times using same umd movie as its only one i own...and works flawlessly....you may need to reboot psp after sleep mode couse i got a wrong region code untill i restarted psp and went through the settings again



may as well name the UMD - Little Britain - Complete Series 2 - Euro....2.0 Update on the disc...and needs it to play - Solved with DevHook 0.40

i just tried this, but doesnt want to boot..i mounted the iso with umd emu in system menu..went ok..then i loaded the umd icon under video..all i get is a black screen..and freeze but doesnt shutdown..so i do a hard reset..also, i noticed, the iso is 490mb wich is kinda small for a movie (usually an umd video is over a 1GB) so i opened the iso with umdgen 3.02 and i saw the size of 1.63gb..so i saved the file into a new iso, and the size after is 1.63gb..but still doesnt boot with umd emu :(..anybody had success with it??

Awesome. Can anyone else confirm this? I have numerous umd movies, but they all happen to work on my 1.5.
My main question is if this will work w/ Jap UMD movies (I have a 1.5 usa psp). Different regions have extremely different movies, so it would be cool to be able to play them all on our 1.5 psp's.

Does anybody know if Boondocks the 1st season will play on a TA-82 with FW2.8 without having to update more. I already updated to play Killzone from FW2.71 that I found out now I could have downgraded. I really don't want to waste the money on it if I will have to update.

Good, then send me yours. I am still buying them regularly. I don't expect many/any more, but there are plenty of good ones out there. The only downside is rip-ability in terms of converting them to an avi, etc to view on other devices.
