Sick of answering the same questions over and over about this.
If the drive fails to erase or verify write its NOT bricked.
All you need to do is use dosflash or dosflash32 v1.7
Can one of the mods please make this a sticky as I feel it is an important thread and we can post guides etc for people to resolve there issues.
ALOT OF THINGS HAVE CHANGED SINCE I FIRST POSTED THIS THREAD. PLEASE READ IN DEPTH DETAILS

Here is some information for via 6421 card owners trying to erase/flash their liteon DG-16D2S drives from #fw on efnet :
[11:19] <+Oggy> X-S homepage specifically states...
[11:19] <+Oggy> At this moment, we have had quirky issues in regards to VIA chipsets and flashing/reading/erasing the LiteOn drive. Please pay attention to the 2nd prompt in particular after hitting the Lite-On-Erase button. Power cycling the drive at the correct time is very important for VIA users. If the VIA polls the drive after erase, it WILL freeze/lock your computer. Tools for DOS erase/flash/key/spoof are included in this release for any users having difficulties within windows.
From: http://www.xbox-scene.com/xbox1data/sep/EkFppEyyApfojHvjYV.php
[11:20] <+Oggy> Use via 6421 w/530c drivers and follow the tutorials PROPERLY to minimize issues
[11:21] <+[Ex0r]> Oggy- if mentioned happens, does it result in a bricked drive?
[11:21] <+Oggy> It should be erasable, I can erase bad flash fine on my VIA 6421 with 530c drivers, and/or AMD 780G/SB700 SATA on my Gigabyte board (other SB700's should work)
[11:22] <+Oggy> Trust me, I tried enough times.
[11:22] <+[Ex0r]> k, so even if it does lock up like that, you should still be able to erase it.
[11:22] <+Oggy> 'should' but we cant test every possible setup
[11:24] <+Oggy> 6421 needs the DeviceID trick to stop hanging of system, more info on this later
I know many people already have had problems doing these drives with via cards, I remember when the firmware was first released there were comments made in channel about the possibilites of via problems, it was then I decided that I would use my nforce4 onboard sata to erase/flash my drives.
I used JungleFlasher for my pro console, which was a straight forward operation, make the firmware with the the 3 bins extracted from your liteon, get the drive connected and identified correctly within windows and erase/flash. Everything went well and the flash was verified. It was the same with my core console, I spoofed a liteon as a 59dj and erased/flashed with JungleFlasher, all 4 banks written and verified correctly.
JungleFlasher when out of beta will be an excellent app, hopefully someone will hack the via drivers to stop them polling the drive constantly during the flash, until then I will use my nforce controller with all the liteons I do.
All I can suggest to anyone reading this, is make sure you have the key, identify and inquiry.bin files before attempting to erase or flash the drive.
To be careful, I will still be using dvdkey from dos boot disk to get my key and other files, then erase and flash from JungleFlasher.
It doesn't take alot longer to take these steps and gives security in case of problems.

@gazzaman
if you put the probe on the correct point it should turn green with the spear i should think the same thing.
lets say you want to erase the drive in windows.leave the drive power off,no need for tray halfway open,so close it.
when you are in windows just before you open jungle flasher power the drive,it should not lock windows.load the firmware (it wont let you do anything i think without a fw loaded) go to mtkflash 32 and click on liteon erase button,it will ask you question, say yes,it will ask question again.this time turn off the power to the drive and a sec later turn it on again.then answer yes.
now go to erase,it is located where the read/erase/write button are on the right side.
click on erase and see what happens.
if you look at the bottom of jungle flasher (where its white) you will see its status change even though it dont show in jungle flasher,it will show it erasing each bank.
if you manage to get it erased use dosflash to write the ixtreme15 to the drive.cos if it dont verift the write you will more likely not have working drive and will have to do it all again.
i found it writes the drive fine with a good checksum.
dosflash is a dos app not windows dos.so you need dosflash and dosflash.typ on the root of boot device and the ixtreme15 firmware you created.

mine just causes windows to hang as soon as i turn it on regardless of what programs running.
i soldered bridges across the parts where theres no resitors and the blue light has come on now on the spear but still i get d2 when off and 52 when on? just cant figure out whats up with it?
when the flash has been erased it should still light up on the point with the spear yeah? its as if a fuse or somthing electrical has packed up with me flicking power on/off
gonna have to lend my brother my xbox till i sort this, just dont know what the hell has gone wrong?
ive read some tutorials stating it needs another PC PSU connecting just the liteon to it to cycle the power istead of using the pc one?
but yet on xtractors site they say just connect using a pcs molex plug doesnt state where from.
can someone please check what codes it gives using dosflash16 v1.7 in dos with the drive erased or somthing to see if its similar to mine?

Especiallly for the noobs.

Noobs huh? You wanna get rude and start calling names i can do that too. Well lets see - where do i start?
Oh yeah - how about an e64 error from jungle flasher after erasing liteon fw and not allowing me to write the hacked firmware because apparently jungleflasher no longer recognizes my VIA port for flashing anymore? Neither does iprep or DosFlash that you are claiming will work miracles for us 'noobs'?
Any come back so far? Didn't think so!
My problem does not simply stay on the fact that i did not try dosflash to either re-erase the liteon again or write, its because after erasing liteon for the first time with jungleflasher everything went wrong with my VIA card - my pc started to hang with Xtractor on and Spear no longer lit up with the blue light. My efforts to re-erase my lite on with DosFlash only gives me a status of FFFF no matter what i do or how many times i cycle (and i cycled for about a good half an hour!)
You don't have a right to start calling people noobs just because you were lucky enough to get your drive hacked while other people experienced something different!

Bricked consoles is the risk you always run with flashing anything, think back to the amount of broken PSPs there were in the early days. I have lost one 360 myself from flashing and to be honest the flashing of the Liteon drive is something I am more than happy to pay an expert to do, look at it this way, 25 quid for guaranteed working or DIY and risk having to spend another 100 quid on a new console. I know which I prefer

I know there is a risk involved with hacking the Xbox 360. Hell there is a risk with everything in life - i walk out my front door i am at risk of everything coming my way, that is no surprise to me.
What gets to me is how some people think it is their given right to call others names just because they got lucky while others did not!

I wasnt directing the word noobs at you directly mate. I just meant newbies to the scene. I had 3 liteons in a row that failed with jungleflasher on erase and presumed them dead. Luckily they were drives I have lying around. Thought all was lost but used dosflash and hey presto they came back to life. If you have all your files for the liteon send it to me and I will see if I can revive it for you. If not I have some liteons here I can flash for you.
Things do go wrong from time to time mate but its the risk you take with anything.

its simple.
use dosflash to erase the liteon full stop.dont use anything else.when you have read the info leave the drive in a working state and erase and flash it in dosflash.use the one that comes with the ixtreme1.5 package.
a lad came from leeds today and in jungle flasher it hung on bank2 while erasing,so i had a partial erase bricked liteon.
tried all sorts in windows.
so i say this now.dont try anything in windows,if you do and it keeps hanging then your tough luck.
in dos nothing will freeze as its a usb drive and theres no operating system to lock up.
if you power on your bricked or so called bricked drives when you get to dos,not before and then type doflash,it will run a list.type the number that corresponds to the drive and when it gives you the choices of what you want to do choose LITEON E.this will erase the drive,so any partial erase/writes will now become 100% erased.
then simply run dosflash again and this time choose to write.be sure you got your hacked firmware in the usb or whatever boot device you use and when you type the name of the firmware when it asks for it type the name with .bin at the end and it will write it no prob.it will do another erase first.
so rather than use a problematic jungle flasher stick to dosflash to erase and write the drive then there wont be probs.rather than pi**ing round with drives locking upo windows and dosflash32 use dosflash.
jungle flasher is its first kind so it is realy temperemantal.i did drives with it no prob now it is an asshole with other drives.

Yes I am sure eventually when it is out of Beta, it will be a fantastic app.
It is a fact that they did not want to release it as quickly as they did, Iriez (of Team Jungle) has stated that himself.
If you want to aviod the problems that others are experiencing, follow saleem's advice.

i have now flashed 2 of these liteon drives. i used xecuter ck3 pro, and the add on probe..very nice tools..easy to use. i used the usb that came with the ck3 pro kit...usb was reconized easily. i have onboard sata and didnt really have a problem getting the drive to show up..i think i had to unplug sata cable and plug back in.. maybe even a restart but thats it. using jungleflasher was pretty easy. The first flash i did went pretty smoothly. the second one messed up trying to erase the drive using the jungleflasher/ mtk flash 32. the liteon drive wouldnt eject or do anything. the drive wasnt showing up anymore either. i was worried wondering what am i supposed to do. i did fix it! i used dos32. i had my drive powered on and sata hooked up to drive and pc. I opened up dos32.. i choose the port i was using before.. which was port 0x09fo..then i clicked liteon erase then i just closed the program (dos32) . switched off the drive and then back on..opened up dos32 and there was my flash info..i then clicked on liteon erase button on the bottom of screen. It erased! then i just clicked on write then i just browsed to where i had my hacked key which was just on my desktop (i made using jungleflasher) selected it and pressed write again flash was sucessful! i hope this helps someone. i really thought my drive was dead..i couldnt of been more wrong. good luck everyone and big thanks to everyone who worked so hard on this project and who put all their time into making all this possible.

more info:
also i seem to find that to get a liteon to erase and flash in dos i actualy need it to error out in jungle flasher or it erases with liteon e in dosflash but, returns unknow chip error when asked to write.
seems weird but,it happened today with a drive.i thought i will have to use jungle flasher and then it locked on bank 3 of erase and then when that happened i went to dosflash and ran liteon e option and when it finished erasing i ran write option and i had no probs,it asked me for name of firmware and when i entered it it ran the flash no probs, checksum'd everything good.
now thats weird s**t man as i have to have a drive thats error'd or dosflash aint good for me.every error'd drive it erases and flashed no probs.
so it gos to show that you can post your tutorials and it will only help some and then you can post what works for you but,it wont work for others.

If you are using dos method in a 16bit environment, you cannot use the usb function of either ckv3 or 360xtractor, afaik, if the mobo bios supports usb, all you can use is a usb keyboard or mouse.
If all you have is the usb to serial option, it will have to be used within a 32bit windows environment.
If you are trying to boot from a usb stick, check to make sure that it aint listed in your bios under the hard disk boot order, thats how I configure mine.

If you have a computer made before 2002 you should be able to see your jump drive in your bios. If you can't you might have to do some tweaking in ur bios to see your jump drive on your boot screen. Make sure your jumpdrive is bootible!!!

Finally got there, I read another post on this site (liteon help) i think, anyway you have to run L-O-eras.exe 0000 twice (0000 being the sata port number) then its just the matter of typing W in Dos and away it goes. Many thanks for all the help.
No problem enjoy Happy newyear!

Is it possible to read the key and flash the Lite-on drive with the Xecuter Connectivity Kit v2?? Not v3...
If it is, is it pretty much the same as using the v3? I don't have the 'no-solder probe' so I presume i'm going to have to solder.
Anyone able to help me? I need to know what points to solder on the drive, and do I need to remove the solder once it's flashed?

you will have to solder in an rs3232 to the drives pcb,the v2 kit will only be good for powering the drive.

I've ordered the kit from Neo shop tonight and waiting for it now.
But reading this thread it seems I should use dosflash to erase the drive.
One guy is saying its a real DOS app and not a windows DOS app.
So do I need to reboot the PC into DOS?
The problem I have is I dont have floppy disk on my PC.

Can you use the window 32bit version with flashdos 16 ?

Using dosflash16 and firmtool on a bootable media, you can read your keys, make the firmware and erase/flash your drive all from dos!
Enjoy!
PS. It's still a WIP, I will expand it as time goes by to include all methods for the liteon, watch this space!

Hi,
Thanks for the .pdf tut file it looks great.
I've got my CK3 on order and should turn up tomorrow. I've made a bootable USB stick using iprep like you said. When you first run the iprep tool it asks for the Com port and says " must be com port and not USB based device"
What does this mean ?
The CK3 pro i've order is USB. Do I need something else to make this work with a COM port now.
Thanks

But, and a big BUT, DON'T use to erase, As It Will, and does Brick drives during erase in windows. ( UNSTABLE!!!!)

To use the dosflash16 method, you must have either an onboard com port or a com port pci add-in card, com to usb adapters will not work as there are no drivers in dos that support them, that is of course unless someone writes one.
If you want to use usb method, you will need to dump your keys using either jungleflasher or dvdkey32 v0.7.

I have a COM port on computer ive just checked this. So can the CK3 pro use USB and COM ports ?
Also this might be a skool boy error but ive made a bootable flash pen using Iprep and copied over all the tools i need.
But I can't get my PC to boot from it. In the BIOS i've changed all the settings to boot from USB first, Cdrom second and then harddisk.
The only options I have is USB-FDD, USB-CDROM and USB-ZIP.
Any ideas please?

Pressing DEL gets me into the BIOS and I have the following order
1) USB-FDD 2) USB-CDROM 3) HDD
I don't have any options for USB-FLASH PEN or USB-STICK.
So i've used the following above options.
I have 4 USB ports on the PC and tired each one.
I have pressed F8 when on the BIOS boot screen and nothing. It gets goes right into windows XP.
Could I create a bootable CD-R and do it this way ? or does it need to be able to write back to the boot device e.g USB flash pen

Ok thanks guys for all your help
I now can boot from USB memory stick.
I'm using quite an old 2007 Bios for my mini ITX mobo and it was a hidden menu.
Followed the following from their web site
Q: How to boot from USB memory stick on J7F2 Series?
A: Some memory sticks can simulate ZIP format and HDD format.
For zip format, you can go to BIOS setup > Advance BIOS features > First boot device > USB ZIP (Boot from A:\> or B:\>)
For HDD, you can go to
(Prior A14 BIOS) Intergrated peripherals > OnChip device function > Legacy support > Enabled > save and exit > Reboot > Advance BIOS features > HD boot priority > USB HDD (Boot from C:\>)
I was using A10 BIOS.
So i'm all set to go.
Just to recap before I attempt the read & flash.
I have brought the CK3 Pro bundle which has the USB connection.
I could use jungle flasher to make the DVD key read because this supports USB, but could also use dosflash as a backup to be double sure? But this will require a COM port ? I have a COM port but does the CK3 pro have a COM port as well as USB ?
If i'm ok with this I then move onto the flash but ONLY do this within DOS because jungle flash is alittle buggy still
Does this sound good ?

uninstall the driver completely from your system (google it for manual uninstallation) and use it with JungleFlasher with no drivers.
The reason why it freezes after erase is that the via drivers constantly poll the drive while it is connected, as soon as it is erased, the via polls the drive, finds No Valid OSIG data (the data in the firmware that identifies each specific drive) and freezes up.
Remove the drivers and no freeze, you can then hit device id and get your status 72, ready to flash to iXtreme v1.5.

Just so you know, my via 6421 when installed shows up as a via 3249 in device manager, always has.
If you are using JungleFlasher, try uninstalling the via drivers and flash without drivers at all, this avoids all freezing errors wth JungleFlasher and via cards. I already said this a few posts above, if you are using dos, check the tut section here for a nice dosflash tutorial I wrote for liteons, method works perfectly!
You may need to go into device manager and scan for hardware changes once you have the drivers removed, when prompted by windows to install drivers, don't. It doesnt matter if device manager shows unknown device, it will still work, just make sure you know the port address the drive is connected to, choose it in JungleFlasher, happy flashing!

After the erase, power cycle the drive and hit the 'device id' button to display the flash chip properties, it should also give you a device status, if it is 0x72, then you are ready to write to the drive.

Okay, I`ve followed these steps:
Follow the prompts on the screen, make sure your 360 is OFF and press
any key to continue. Press Y to resend the MTK Vendor Intro.
• Turn on the Xbox 360 and wait 2 or more seconds, status toggles
between 0x51 and 0xD1.
• Turn off the Xbox 360 and wait 2 or more seconds, status will stay at
0xD1.
• Turn on the Xbox 360, you should get a good drive status 0x73 and
reading should begin automatically.
All 4 banks should read OK and you should get a “Reading finished!”
message with a Datasum.
When I turn it off, I get the 0xD1 status, but when I turn it back on, I get 0x52. What does that mean?
I am sorry for being a pain in the behind for you guys, but I feel clueless :-/

If you have flashed the liteon in question (the unresponsive one) and it is fully working (running backups and originals etc) then you can just read the key etc from it again, simple.

why are you doing 2 drives or something.first thing is you should get the info off the drive as without it you cant hack the drive full stop.so where are the files you pulled from the drive.the drive cant become unresponsive if you have not tried to erase or write it.
you should use something like dvdkey32 in windows dos to get the files.
save them to a cd and then when you know you got the key and the files saved then proceed to erase and write the drive.

Hi Everyone! Just thought I would drop some knowledge that might help someone. I have tried to flash 5 lite-ons using my VIA VT6421 and 3 came out okay. The other 2 of course bricked on me when trying to erase using jungle flasher. They both lock up my computer when connected and wouldnt eject and when i tried them on my xbox would give me an error message. I got both of them to work by using iprep. I had already extracted my key.bin,inquiry.bin,and identify.bin. I created the dummy.bin and lite-cfw.bin in jungle flasher. I made my flash drive bootable with iprep and created the folders G:\backups\1234567\12345 as shown. Under 12345 folder I placed the dummy.bin renamed to Lit-OFW.bin and the Lite-CFW renamed to Lit-CFW.bin. I then booted into my flash drive and followed the onscreen instructions for flit 1234567 12345! Got both working now! Thanks to C4EVA and Team Jungle!

Hey Guys,
I recently purchased a 360 as I had read how the new lite-on drives were no
longer un-hackable.. I quickly read up what i could and ordered the ck3 pro + probe.
My first attempts failed at key extraction but after some power cycles i was
able to dump my bin files using ck3 tool. I was unable to locate my drive with
jungleflasher.. At this point i created my spoof cfw using jf, thought the worst was behind me, i was wrong..
The only tools capable of flashing the drive are jungleflash and dosflash but neither of these
are detecting any SATA ports on my cpu, i have a nforce 680i mobo with 4 sata ports but
the programs are only showing IDE ports, despite me never using IDE on this cpu before..
Unable to progress with JF i turned to dosflash but the auto mode ie. typing dosflash in dos
it says " no atapi devices present " and only lists the IDE. I continued reading tutorials and forums
but couldnt find anything new to try, then i read about dosflash manual, so i got my correct port and com from ck3 tools and booted to my usb dos, using l-o-eras 0970(my sata port) i got FF80 a few times but after a power cycle or 2
i got ff72 which means it has been erased, i rebooted to dos and tried using dosflash again for writing the new fw but as usual it gave me " no atapi devices present " and showed only my ide's. i read how to flash the drive manually in dosflash and tried typing out the command in dos "dosflash w 0970 1 ao 1 4 c:lite_cfw.bin" but this only brings up the dosflash menu!.. also i checked my bios and the drive is no longer there, plus it will not eject anymore which confirms its been erased,
so here i am now with a drive that wont show at all in windows anymore, or bios. ive tried changing ports countless times, removing any additional sata ports but still jungleflasher and dosflash are only showing up
IDE and manually typing in the write command for the neew fw with dosflash does nothing so im totally out of ideas..
Sorry for the excess bs but its very frustrating for me as ive been at this over a week now,
any ideas at all would be mega appreciated. Im sorry for having to start a new post but im at
my wits ends and im really hoping someone out there can help..

just use jungleflasher to erase the drive.then use dosflash to write the drive.no need to erase with dosflash once you erase with jungleflasher as it auto erases the drive as part of the write process.

no luck m8te, jungle flasher only detects the same 4 IDE I/O ports and no sata so i could not use jungleflasher for anything except creating hacked fw from my orig bins. only reason i could erase with l-o-eras was because i could manually type my sata port no.

I think the Iprep method is best of all, fast and simple to use, I dont no much about the other methods, so they might be better, but Iprep is pritty straight forward.

i got latest iprep 101 but could not use it, shows no options for target destination, wont let me create bootable drive, the problem would be still there i think though as i would still need to run dosflash and this wont display my SATA connections..

Apparently Nforce mobos have a control in BIOS to enable seperate SATA ports. Check your Bios.
The drive needs to be on the Primary Enabled SATA por
PS Make sure all your Nforce drivers and Bios are up to date.

Ok im getting the same as user above, no programs will display my port im also using nforce chipset. I have done countless other drives I got everything to dump using my spear and xtractor but now when I run through dosflash in dos the drive comes back with xD2 (off) to X52 (on) status. I cant get it to register as X72 to erase and flash it.
Is there a way through dos with dosflash to get it to show x72? am I missing something?
Thanks really need help guys.
the drive shows up in BiOS also on pri sata port, (09F0) and everything works and shows up in Iprep, but jungle flasher and dosflash 32 wont show the 09f0 port at all, so im scared to run i-o-erase command and then not be able to write to the drive since it hangs at x52 status.

Got this from Xboxscene posted by someone ::
I forgot, I had a 680i MB that I used to use and now it is in my son's PC... disable the "OnChip IDE channel" completely and disable all other SATA channels other than the one you have your XBox drive attached too. it is a pain but that is what I had to do on that board when I was using it (before i swapped out for a more simple MB in my test rig).
Hope that helps.
Also at x52 status try removing the power cable from the dvd drive and then back in, I had a problem and that helped.

Hi all, after failing with a Benq drive, i had to trash that xbox (really have to thank my friend...) and bought another.
I opened and... surprise: Philips LiteOn DG-16D2S.
After a bit of swearing, i checked around to look for a guide, about a softmod. Tried one... nothing. Tried another... nothing. Thought about giving my friend another chance... not.
So i'd like to understand what i'm doing wrong (for now the driver works perfectly and i wouldn't like to open it, adding wires or so).
How can i softmod this without buying extra devices, serial things and so?
My MB is a A9WD, Abit, with SATA = Intel 82801GB/GR/GH (ICH7 Family) SATA storage Controller
Maybe i can't do it on mine? Is there a VERY simple guide about how to do it if it's possible? Underlining VERY simple, cause i'm an idiot about these things (never modded anything, but i'd like to try this one).
Thanks all

*I am using Nforce 4 chipset, XFX 680I LT SLI board, once I updated my mobo from nvidia.com. everything worked perfect first time through using only jungle flasher. Dump,Erase,Write.*
Ok in relation to xD2 and x52 status: after some research I found for your computer to correctly see the liteon it needs to ne ERASED properly so you will continue with xD2 to x52 status untill its erased.
Nforce sata, if in iprep no options are showing up use "refresh" button near the drop down menu.
I was only seeing my IDE controller in dosflash 32 and Jungleflasher. I went to nvidia.com -driver and download- then followed the drop down menus for my motherboard, installed, and bam all my sata ports where there.
In regards to the message above. There simply is no simple way :). Sorry man but your either going to need to soder a tiny connection together or get a prob which runs to your comp serial or usb port. Liteons are simple to flash but getting the data to dump for you to flash to it is tricky. PM me if youd like I might be able to help you out.

If you can deff use jungle flasher, just dont use the "erase" button use "Lite-on-erase" button. Two different erase programs.

Hi everybody, I am new to this forum and liked to say hello before posting my story.
So I got my lite-on drive ready for the action, I extracted the key, spoofed it and made a bootable cd with l-o-erase and dosflash.
Everything went well with l-o-erase, after two trials I got the XXF2, but...
when executing dosflash it gives me a reading error (disk not ready, retry, abort, fail) when reading the ide drive, if I press F (fail), keeps on executing until it detects the sata and I get the exact same error (retry, fail, abort) if I choose abort it finishes reading and at the end it ask me the number of my atapi drive, i write it down and get the usual options (erase, write, get key) then is when it gets weird, as it will allow me to erase, to get the key, but when i choose w (write) i get a "unknown flash type".
It is very frustrating and i feel stuck after all the hard work is done.
I forgot to mention I have a nvidia mobo with 4 sata ports and I am usin a via sata that i bought for the ocasion. If I try to go to windows, the via sata hangs the system as soon as a make a powercycle, if I use a mobo sata this is not recognized by xtractor, jungleflasher or dosflash32
Thanks for reading

Hi!!
I have the same problem as everybod else, i cant get any contact with the liteon-drive. Ive got the key and everthing but the cmpouter frooze during the erasing in jungleflasher. In jungleflash and dosflash32 i cant see the liteon and the same thning happends in dos when im trying dosfalsh16 there. I use an onboard sata-port, When I got the key in jungleflash, did i get it throu the com-port ? or did i use the sata? (i have a ck3 kit with probe)
The problem is that im not sure witch port i use, i think it was ffeo but that doesnt seem right, is there any other way to check witch port im using?
Sorry if my enlgish is bad, im from sweden and have been sitting with this for 10 hours now.... ;)

johnny, a good way to check what port you are using is to download iprep, once the sata device is selected IE *via sata card or mobo sata, if you click the "?" next to the drop down menu it will give you a read out of the device and what port its responding on.
On the other post "best" hardware is what I am assuming you meant... get a VIA6421A IDE & SATA RAID PCI Controller Card. Its the best way to know everything will work forsure. I personally use maximus xtractor with spear for liteon drives also as a hardware add on.
To be honest I personally do not use a VIA card as my Nforce mobo on board sata works perfectly with all 360 drives.

I retrieved my key (I have the JungleFlasher log file that contains the key), but JungleFlasher said it saved my Key.bin, Identity.bin and Inquiry.bin. Imagine my surprise when I tried to open them to find they were not there.
Can someone point me in the right direction to build a DG-16D2S firmware with the key 206A9006B099A07C23F0A6FA1D2F43DC?
Although the erase command never looked like it completed, I'm pretty sure the drive has been erased. I can't get it to eject, and when I use the CK3 Probe on the contact point I can't get a green light.
Any suggestions or help would greatly be appreciated...
Thanks

I can use a Samsung firmware, replace the key and reflash the drive?
What Samsung model firmware do I need to use?
Doug
load up your samsung firmware in Firmware Toolbox, then simply copy paste the key from the liteon into the key area and hit "replace". then go up under options or tools...(sorry i forget and not in front of the program) and go to Spoof firmware. Then simply select the drive that you want it to "appear as".

If the drive wont eject that means it is correctly erased. now your problem is you cannot simply "build" firmware for the liteon as you do any other drive by simply inserting a key. You need either the 3 files from your fimrware dump through your ck3 or (depending on what you dumped with program wise) you need your dummy file. When a liteon dumps it dumps into 3 files Inquiry, key, and identify. From there you need to use Jungle Flasher program to create firmware from those files or you need to aquire a "dummy" file and use firmtool.
No way to create firmware from simply a key for liteon CORRECTLY.
SPOOFING A DRIVE:
load up your samsung firmware in Firmware Toolbox, then simply copy paste the key from the liteon into the key area and hit "replace". then go up under options or tools...(sorry i forget and not in front of the program) and go to Spoof firmware. Then simply select the drive that you want it to "appear as". doug i can build you samsung firmware to work in your system that previously had a samsung easily if youd like.

I am having troubles with the new lite on drives..
The SATA cable is too tight. Ive twice pulled out the entire sata port of the drive and its a pain in the ass to put back together.
Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a better way of removing the sata cable?
and still can't get this lite-on erased correctly.
My problem is no matter what I try I get FFFF in l-o-eras
I am using a Via 6421, Ck3 pro w/probe booting Iprep from a floppy (motherboard does not except usb booting). Like everyone else I managed to dump it relatively easily, but it froze when attempting to erase under windows.
I have my port number correct which I obtained from both jungleflasher and ck3 tool.
I have tried erasing it with dosflash and get the successful msg, but you get this even if you didn't select yhe correct port.
when I try to flash it inputting dosflash (also tried addin liteon here) w FFA0 Lite_crw, I get the error 1st argument invalid [liteon]
I have tried many other things, but can't list this all here since no one reads long replies.
If possible please help me out someone, I've been at this now for over 2 days with less than 4hrs sleep.
Thank you.

I have two questions.
If you get status 80 when you are trying to erase the liteon-driver with l-o-erase, is it then sure that it is the liteon-driver thats connected to that specified sata-port? Or is it possible that it is something else for example my hdd that answeres "status 80"? (My satus wont change from status 80...)
My driver is "half erased" with jungleflasher (the computer frooze when i used jungleflasher and now i cant see it anywhere) Do I have to use the same sata-port that i used in jungleflash or can I use another port to finnish the erasing?
cheers!

Dunno if it will help anyone but when I've had trouble with the status I do this..
I use Dosflash v1.7 the dosflash 16 version on a bootable usb stick, then after typin dosflash and getting the no identify possible message, I type liteon e but switch the drive off and on again then press enter.
Usually after erasing then typing dosflash again it's at status 72 and writes fine.

I modded lots of lite-on drives and never face any trouble with it. I know that when its in status FF80 you have to keep trying the command l-o-erase and turn on/off the DVD drive.
This works fine on all lite-on drives so far.
Now I got someone who tried this himself and he failed to erase the liteon drive. It stays in status FF80 no matter what! He read the .bin files OK and I flashed it with a spare Liteon drive.
Now I look for a solution to get this other liteon drive alive. Does anyone ever faced this problem? Maybe someone has an idea?

2. Can you remove the drive belt for the tray to keep it open?

if you use the power from the 360 you got to pull the power cable out from the back of the drive and reinsert it.so your drive is left half open, this is for liteon files extraction.
if you are doing this for first time thinking about dismantling the drive and removing drive belts and suich is not good idea, you are walking a bad path already.
you can leave the tray closed for flashing process, only need drive with status closed but, tray half open for liteon xtraction.

Can you read the keys with using only the sata cable and soldering the R707?
And using the power from the 360?
Or do you have to buy a kit?
I got the tray to stay, but my home made spear is giving me a badkey error.
Maybe I will try soldering to the R707 or if you can get them from the sata cable, I could do that. I have used iprep before, this is my 6th drive I am flashing, but it is my first Lite-on drive. Just need a little push in the right direction. thanks

Thanks for all the help guys. I'll tell you my situation.
I tried to do lite on erase in jungle, it didnt do it, supposed bricked the drive.
was trying to use dosflash32 and dosflash in dos and nothing was working.
dug up an old serial cable after reading that serial to USB wont work.
Still nothing. "unknown flash chip" or something.
So i went back into windows, jungleflash, then i on the MTKflash one, i clicked "Device ID" first, and did the switch off and on quickly thing, and it WORKED!
REMEMBER TO LEAVE YOUR DRIVE OFF UNTIL DOS LOADS.
ran dosflash, made it write my firmware (note i had already made the firmware and put it in the dosflash folder on my USB drive)
Hope this helps others, if anything isn't clear PM me.
Thanks again to everyone else

I have a n00b question that I have been looking for many times but no chance to see it
When you dump the key from Lite-on by using spear or homemade thing, you must leave the drive half-open after power on it.
The steps were written follow the sort below.
I'm going to using home made thing to dump the drive becuz I cannot find where to buy spear thing on my location, seriously. I made one to dump the key. I 'm goin to use xbox to power the dvd drive
1. Power up the drive
2. Pres Eject button on xbox
3. Drive opens then shut the power down
4. Push the tray to half - open status
5. Power the drive on, there are some tricks around to keep the tray half open and not close when power on like paper clip trick, plug out pin 3 on dvd power cable. Cuz I use xbox to power on dvd so I do plug out pin 3 trick.
6. Dump the key by using spear or homemade thing.
The question I have been looking for is : After get the key successfully, we gonna go to Erase and Write hack firmware. During the progress, what the dvd drive status is ???.
Still half open with pin 3 unplugged on power cable ? Or fully close by setting everything back to its normal ?:confused:
Any help would be much appreciated !
EDIT: I see the answer on few post above !!!!
Credits go to Oggy for this as its a great guide for new users wanting to flash their Liteons, etc. Guide was taken from 360mods.net

i did this for like 20 times to be sure.
my pc didn't froze while the drive was being erased.
the drive wont eject tray and gives a e64 error when its back in the x360.
i also tryed to re-erase everything went the same, only now it gave a 0x80 port and not the 0x72 like the first time.
should i consider buying a new benq drive to spoof the data onto or is the liteon drive salvagable?

Go under device manager and check to make sure your coms there, WHILE YOUR EXTRACT OR EXTRACTING DEVICE IS PLUGGED IN. First i see that the I/O port is directed to your firewire port?
dont think that's really what you want.
Second. i advise that you can better use the latest version of jungleflasher.
with this version you have an option to also select other Sata controllers
i also have a Nvidia sata controller where also visible after selecting this option. latest version is .46 i think
Third. i dont think that there should be a problem that OS is vista.
check if the port32 driver is installed right try to download the CKtool.exe for use with the CK3 pro really helped me allot
i flash liteon within 3 minutes with CK3 pro its a great tool
P.S. be really carefull with VIA chipset on liteon
i lost a drive with it when it crashed while it was erasing the firmware.
good luck if you have any questions mail me!

Hey, I honestly have tried to search all 11 pages of information to see if anyone else has had the same issue, and had no luck, so please excuse if it has been asked before, I did try.
I am using the CK3 Pro and the Probe to Flash my Lite-On Drive.
So far I have been using the Jungle Flasher application, and I have had success up to this point:
I have received the Drive Key, and written the Key, Inquiry and Identify ~.bin files.
I go to the MTK Flash 32 Tab, and click Lite on Erase. I then click OK. I then "Power Cycle" my CK3 Pro as best I know how, by turning the On/Off switch relatively quickly (under 1 second, but not as fast as I physically can, although I have tried that too). I then click OK, and receive the message:
"Sending Lite-On-Erase request to port 0xFD00
Drive returned Status 0x51
........................................
Device Intro failed!"
I have also tried Power cycling the CK3 by unplugging the power lead, and by waiting until after I press OK the second time to no avail (also tried a combination of the two).
Any help on how to resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated.
And please, if you tell me to use "DosFlash" then could you give me instructions on how to use it as if I were 5, I have never successfully used a Dos application.
I apologise again for what is probably the 100th time you had this question, and will be extremely thankful to anyone able to resolve this issue for me :).

Download Iprep .008. Creat usb boot device "including batch files"
Boot from the usb device, at command prompt ignore iprep its a POS
type "dosflash"
pick the port the drive is on
then erase and write from there.

ACTUALLY youll have a huge problem if its vista 64, because portio cant be installed correctly to 64bit, so could be the entire reason its not showing up :). Id assume its 32 thought.

@ cyanarnofsky:
Thank you for getting back to me so fast. Now I'm preparing myself to be hated by the entire forum for a completely "noobish" question:
I have downloaded the iPrep software, but it is "unable to recognise any devices". Now I assume that's not a problem, as it won't actually be doing any of the flashing. But I'm not entirely sure what I am supposed to be doing in that program.
I enter my key over on the right where it says "Lite-On Tools", and my only options appear to be "Create Bin File" with either BenQ or Samsung iXtreme firmware, with a check box for "include in build".
Sorry for being a hassle, but I am completely new to all of this stuff, and trying to pick it up as I go along (hence confusion when things go differently to all the tutorials).
If this is what I'm supposed to do (create bin file, with include in build checked) please could someone tell me how one might go about saving this in the correct format to a USB device and then booting from that? Thanks again for any replies.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Edit:
Reading through the tutorial from this site for DosFlashing a Lite-On drive.
I'm lost at practically the first step.
"First of all you will need to have a bootdisk".
This again reverts to my issue attempting to use iPrep, as I have no idea how to use it to create a bootdisk. My SATA port being used is 0xFD00 which doesn't show up on the list in iPrep (neither do any ports).

Is the problem that you are having - device intro failed.
I flashed a lite-on last night and this appeared on the screen.
I thought this was supposed to happen as the drive is now erased.
After seeing this, I clicked write and then ata outro.
She flashed fine, back-ups work.
Are you using a via sata pci card?
I uninstalled the via drivers but jf and xtractor reader kept crashing everytime I went to read the key. I then re-installed the via drivers and everything worked.

Hello, and again thanks for the speedy replies :).
Yes, one of the problems is that I receive the message "Device Intro Failed!", however I think this is as a direct result of it being in "Status 0x51".
I'm using it via the computer's onboard SATA rather than a PCI card. Reading the key isn't an issue per se. I have my drive's key, and can obtain the "Lite_CFW" file from JF with relative ease. The problem is erasing the firmware and then writing the iXtreme firmware to it.
I'm quite lost right now, and am loathed to leave the drive sat in my PC for significantly longer for fear of physical damage. Anyone know how to get the drive to return status 0x72 rather than 0x51 as I feel this would allow me to Flash it.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Edit:
Oh, is that the problem? Does it have to be a PCI SATA card to do it?

Sorry im in and out so much with school. First thing upon reading that is have you erased the drive? The drive wont return status unless it is erased properly, AND also make sure the drive tray is half open like you did during read.
I just wana make sure you covered those steps. Plus with lungle flasher make sure you are using the liteon erase towards the top not the button near , write, they are two different erase commands. You might try erasing it once more with that top button, then you will want to power cycle the drive off then instantly back on as soon as the dots appear after erasing.
you must power cycle quickly to return to vendor x72.

liteons are easy to flash in my opinion BUT you need an extraction device, IE...ck3 and probe, or Maximus Xtractor and spear, (without prode or spear for each device you will need to soder 2 contacts together, which are very small)
heres some tutorials with visuals:
ck3 method: http://team-xecuter.com/ck3/liteon_windows.htm
Xacuter method is exactly the same process except the little probe/spear looks different along with the main maximus device, but they work exactly the same.
I bought my maximus xtractor for $66 at foundmy.com.
It took me some time to get my machine working correctly with the drive and reading the keys properly. So not to self promot but please if you are going to spend the $66 and are very uneasy about this process pay the $40 and ship it to me I garuntee my work and have done over a dozen liteons.

It is dead easy to get status ox 0x72 with a liteon, here's how I do it :
When using liteon erase in jungleflasher I don't power cycle straight after I send the erase command, I wait a few seconds, the jf window goes blank and usually returns a status of 0x51, I power cycle then hit the device id button, always get status 0x72, I have done my liteons this way since jungleflasher was first released.
Make sure you are using v0.043, which is the latest public beta.
See if it works for you, I use my onboard sata, which is Nforce4.
If you still want to try using the dosflash method, I posted a tutorial I made (complete with screencaps) here :
http://forums.maxconsole.net/showpost.php?p=1097929&postcount=76
Since you have already got your bin files (dummy.bin etc) then you can skip straight to the write, just give the whole tut a good read.

PC OFF
connect ck3 pro, switch OFF
connect sata, connect usb, connect probe.
PC ON, SWITCH OFF
start in windows, switch ON
use jungleflasher to read the key, oh and th mode must be BLUE (off )
eject tray, put half in ( look tutorial from jungle team )
so, read the key
spoof the key
and use DOSFLASH to erase and flash the drive.
and worked here.
Edit: don't forget to install the drivers !

But I ahve seen alot of problems with X51 status not returning with poorly erased consoles. Thats just what I have some accross.

ok i have a problem with my lite-on, I used jungle flasher and extracted the key, it created the 4 files and saved them to my pc.
i used the dummy.bin to patch the ixtreme 1.5 firmware, looked ok
I then tried to erase the drive but it crashed half way through (intel sata chipset)
I then booted to dos, tried l-o-erase but no mater what i can not get it to return correct code to say it is erased.
I tried dosflash, it sees the drive, used liteon erase, looked good
I then used tosflsh to write the liteon_cfw.bin to drive, looked ok
put drive back in xbox, turn it on and i get an E66 error, contact customer support.
Any ideas or thought on how to fix?
Cheers very much,

I was lucky enough to have flashed my first lite on without too much hassle, I just followed these instructions only thing that wasn't clear to me was once I got the key which by the way took some time cuz I kept getting 0000000000 due to the drive not being half way close, which meant almost all the way for some reason, I tried to erase it nowhere on the guide does it say that the drive has to be close, so I kept trying to erase with the drive half way open and of course it wouldn't work until I decided to close it and everything after that was history, got my lite on drive working within one hour, not bad for my first one.

those are the instructions I follow.

:)
In fact, creating the firmware the way he did IS the correct way, the dummy.bin is exactly that, a dummy firmware containing drive serial, drive key, and correct osig data for the liteon drive he read from.
In jungleflasher, this is loaded as source automatically after the read from the drive, you then spoof this source to your target firmware, in this case, iXtreme v1.5.
If you dont have your dummy.bin, you miss the drive specific serial data you need for your liteon drive.
Don't get me wrong, the drive will still work with just the key.bin, identify.bin and inquiry.bin, however it will be missing the drive serial information, which may or may not be an issue now or in the future, however, since it indeed exists with each liteon drive, makes sense to make sure it is present in the hacked firmware.

so much for using dummy.bin in his case as it gave the drive either no identity or a bad one.
bad spoof error is e66.
on side note i create my own dummy.bin i dont rely on the dumped one.i have never used the dumped dummy.bin,in fact i have never opened it at all so i actualy didnt even know it contained the key/serial and identity.his obviously didnt have the correct drive info or it wouldnt be giving him the error.

I know you have said you don't use Jungleflasher saleem, however, I am determined to get you to change your mind :)
It is still in beta and as such, it will produce different results on different machines, this is the reason for the public beta, so if you have any problems/bugs, they can be reported/fixed in new revisions.
Also, the developers would surely listen to the people using it, after all, they were the ones that released it to the public!
Good things to come from JungleFlasher, I am sure of that ;)

Oh man.. I just screwed up my Lite-On. I've been trying for a week, reading every tutorial, most threads about Lite-On... and now I've finally done it, started erasing in Jungle Flasher then just stopped. Now not seen in Windows or with Dosflash.
Why has nobody ever mentioned the 360's Power lights flashing? Whenever I unplug the power, the lights flash and I seem to have no access to the drive. This is what happened with Jungle.. it saw it, then as soon as it started erasing the 360's power light started flashing and Jungle no longer recognised it. Now whenever I turn the 360 on the lights are flashing.
I've read all 13 pages of this thread, every last one of them. But it seems everyone has a connectivity kit, useful for power cycling the drive. I only ever power cycled by turning the 360 off and on. And those flashing Power Lights.. why have they never been mentioned? Anyway sorry about my tone, but I should have let it be and played it till all the games needed 1.51. But ... I thought all these other people were saying how easy it was etc, I'm no total n00b.. but.. arrrghh. Please help! I bought a VIA card just for this purpose and now all I have to show for it is a dead 360. (I do have the key etc files and a full 1.51 dummy.bin with my drives data in it so there is hope I hope!)

But ... Of course there is hope!
Make sure you have the drivers for the via removed before you attempt to erase a liteon drive, this is well documented and has been common knowledge since ixtreme for liteon was released.
Read the jungleflasher guide for more details, I posted a pdf guide for dosflash16 in the tutorials section, you can grab it from there and give that a read, might be a good idea :)

YES!! I finally got it! I was totally freaking out over this! Thanks prankster etc for your patience! The way I did it was all through DOS and the VIA card. I ran l-o-eras over and over until the drive was erased. I then ran dosflash. The important thing that I was missing was to turn the drive on just before running either of the two programs I used. I only ever seemed to have a 30 sec window to do anything before the drive would stop responding again. So the first time I flashed it actually failed because I was too slow in typing the .bin I wanted to write.
PS the PortIO drivers always ruined my PC even after uninstall. The CPU use would go up and down and the mouse would intermittently have the hourglass. Lucky it was a fresh install with backup ghost files. Anyway, it happened both times, maybe just my setup! Anyway I had no luck at all in Windows, save for the 1 sec it actually saw my drive (then locked up on erasing it..), and I had removed the VIA drivers the way the Jungle tutorial told me to, but still no luck. So..
I would suggest to anyone who's having trouble to go the DOS only route. Make your hacked .bin file in windows because it's easier (I used Jungleflasher and umm.. I forgot the name of the program that lets you type in the serial numbers from the DVD drive itself and insert them into the dummy file.) Once I had that I just had l-o-eras and dosflash and the finished .bin file in DOS mode and tried over and over (esp with the power cycling.. I used a pencil to power on/off instead of the remote.. :p) until it worked.
I thought 'damn, that was arduous!'.. then thought of the people who made the hack in the first place, I'm sure they spent more time and money making it (for us to enjoy for free) than I can imagine. Kudos to those dudes! And thanks again to the people on this forum who've helped me out!

i was barking up that tree for ages until prankster showed me the dosflash tutorial. seriously, use that!! jungleflasher wouldn't work for me on 2 pc's.. the drives would just never show up. not dissing it, just saying if it doesn't work, go the DOS route.

OK. Performed my first Liteon flash at the weekend.
No end of different problems, but basically using dosflash I typed LITEON E
got a successful erase and then discovered my key was on another machine.
I shut down the machine copied my key over and re started dosflash.
The drive showed up as an unknown device and once the SATA port was selected did not ask about MTK Vender Intro. I selected F and it flashed all 4 banks and returned with a successful flash message and checksum.
My xbox is back together and seems to be working perfectly both on originals and backups made from them.
Is this a successful flash, or do I need to erase again and hopefully get the MTK message, cycle the drive etc.

Hi I am having my own problems. I have read about it and I have the ck3 pro with the probe. The drive is recognized and I am connecting the ck3 to my pc through a serial to usb connection. I have an evga 780i mobo. The computer recognizes that the ck3 is on com port 3 and also that the drive is connected.
When using ck tools reading the key takes a really long time, and eventually returns all c's no matter what I do. But when I use jungleflasher what ever I do always results in 0's. I am about ready to just call it quits. The first probe I bought always lit up green so I returned that one and got a new one. And the reason I am going serial to usb is the usb isnt being recognized by my pc with the ck3 with all the drivers installed.
And before you say make sure you follow the tutorials I have followed them exactly step by step multiple times and I have been trying to get this working since monday night with no luck. If anyone has any advice I would greatly appreciate it.

I've just encountered what I think may be my first bricked lite-on :(
I've done a few and have always got the key via jungleflasher then flashed the drive in dos v1.7
On this particular drive I've got the key but when I tried to flash it the first few times it hung at writing bank 0, but on the third or fourth attempt it froze on writing bank 3 (so close..)
now the drive is just not recognized no matter what I try, tried different sata ports, a different via card, plus other drives still get recognized so I know it's not a hardware fault.
Tried l-o-eras and get status ff:80 also tried in jungleflasher and it just says no drive present.
Any ideas?

Installing xp is only necessary if you want to use a 32bit application to flash it, you can use dosflash, providing your computer can boot from a dos bootdisk (most can)
Check the tutorials section, I posted a tutorial I wrote in pdf for liteon/dosflash, give it a good read then give it a try.

Until the liteon drive was manufactured, the only purpose of a connectivity kit was to power the drive via your pc, however since the liteon, newer connectivity kits have been released that have features specifically made for the liteon, these kits have a serial connection with optional probe/spear that you use to extract your key.bin etc from the liteon.
You can make a homemade liteon extractor easily from parts you may already have, salvaged from old electronic items you may have in the house, in storage etc.
Read more about it here : http://tinyurl.com/6egw9q

Im sorry by flashing i meant writing to the drive. Say I wanted to buy a liteon drive and write an iXtreme firmware to it, Would I need probe along with the ck3, or would writing just be like any ordinary 360 drive? Thanks

If all you want to do is buy a liteon and spoof it as your hitachi, you dont need the connectivity kit, no, you can do it over sata with your pc and the console as power source for the liteon.
Make sure to use either intel or nforce onboard sata for best results and if you plan on using a via card, remove the drivers if you are using jungleflasher.
You can find links to JungleFlasher in these forums, make sure you read the guide thoroughly before you use it.
You will need to get a firmware dump from your hitachi to use as source firmware in jungleflasher, you need this in order to spoof your drive osig data correctly, it's a cinch with jg, just rtfm and dont rush !

Could someone help a newbie here? I'm gonna be flashing my first Xbox 360. Here's the hardware (which is what I'm mainly concerned about) I've got or ordered:
-New Xbox 360, Jasper version, Lite-On drive
-360 Xtractor + Spear addon
-PC with ASUS A8N-SLI mobo, nForce4 (that's what it says on the support CD, so that's what I'm assuming it is) chipset
Am I set for extracting the Liteon key with Xtractor Reader 2.8? I keep reading about a VIA sata card. Is that necessary?
Also, after I get the necessary files from the drive, I just put it through JungleFlasher or DOS Flash and I'm done right?

Forget xtractor reader, it's crapola.
Download latest version Jungleflasher and make sure you read the guide before using it.
The hardware you have is fine, nforce4 sata controller is perfect, use that, don't bother with a via card.
You can search here for Jungleflasher, if you follow the guide for it's use with the liteon drive, you cannot go wrong.

If the drive fails to erase or verify write its NOT bricked.
All you need to do is use dosflash or dosflash32 v1.7
Can one of the mods please make this a sticky as I feel it is an important thread and we can post guides etc for people to resolve there issues.
Especiallly for the noobs.

i have the exact same problem..have been trying to find a cure all day..i didnt think it was possible to brick a lite on..in fact any drive that could be flashed in dos. it appears i was very wrong lol..i actualy decided to give JF a try instead of dos which is how i usualy do it..it got to bank 3 and 2 dots and then froze. i waited 10 mins and JF was still not responding so i power cycled the pc and copied the ixtreme to usb stick to flash in trusty dos..but i cant get get it into 0x72 status its allways 0x80 and dosflash16/dosflash32/jungleflasher/l-o-eras 16bit/l-o-eras 32bit refuse to see the drive now. i have tried it in different ports with different cables with every software known to man lol and nothing..i really didnt think i'd hear myself say this but after over 200 succesful flashes i have encountered my first brick. yay lol..
anyway i have allready ordered a liteon replacement from ebay but if you ever find out how to get around the 0x80 status please let me know..i'd love to know if there was a way around it..

Try dosflash 1.7. Also, the power cycling is very important and thats what kept my PC from seeing my drive FOR A WEEK!!! I noticed that turning it on at exactly the right time, and giving the dosflash command at exactly the right time is crucial. I must have powered the 360 on and off at least 100 times or so before I got it.

I need some help here. I just bought a brand new Xbox 360 60GB Pro Console here in Canada yesterday (April 3rd, 2009). I love it so far but the whole reason I bought it was to get it modded.
So I believe I have a Lite On Drive but I just want to make sure I mod it properly and not do anything to mess up the console or do it wrong and get banned from Xbox Live.
Can anyone link me to a tutorial and tell me all the tools I need to order to mod this thing properly? I was looking at 360 Connectivity Kit V3 Pro CK3 Version2 and a Probe - CK3 Probe Add-on for the Xecuter Connectivity Kit 3 (Lite or Pro), is that all the hardware I need and can it be used more than once (if so how many times can it be used)? If so then I just need a proper tutorial. Any help appreciated, thanks!

I would recommend getting it modded professionally if you're a real n00b. Just make sure you get the 3 files from the modder.. then in future it's much easier to do it yourself. Getting the keys is really hard IMO.

I am not too much of a no0b, I can take the Xbox apart easily enough and follow the tutorial on Xecuter but I just want to make sure I get all the hardware. The guy who mods them down here charges like $80-$100 and for that price I might as well buy the tools myself to have for the future.

Hi. There is my story including the problem and the solution. (semi bricked liteon, undetectable in dos and windows, state = 7F)
I have a liteon powered with the xbox (with pin 3 removed). I used my motherboard (Asus P5K) chipset (Intel ICH9R 6 ports) to connect the liteon drive. No Connectivity kit, no via sata card. The motherboard also has JMicron sata ports but I disabled them in the BIOS.
The ICH9 have 6 SATA port. My two hard disks are connected to two of them. I added the liteon and using my homemade probe, I extracted the key on the first attempt using jungleflasher. I send the key to my email addresses as a backup then I erased my liteon, still using jungleflasher. I think I succeeded because the drive was reported as in vendor mode but I could not write it because it did not report ManufacturerID, DeviceID, flash size and all these information about flash memory. So I erased it again trying to power cycle with a power bar and the xbox button because it’s what’s written in the guide. The problem is that I power cycled during the erase and the drive disappear. No matter what I did, the drive was not detected. I made a dos boot drive (good old floppy :) and even in DOS, nothing worked. State = 0x7F, no matter if the drive was powered on or off. I was really worried but as C4eva said it’s nearly impossible to brick the liteon, I kept hope and search thorough the forums.
Most of the threads I read said to try again and again to erase with l-o-erase. I did it a hundred times, always with the same result : 0x7F. I spend at least six hours trying to erase, doing power cycle and changing bios setting. Some people (on a French forum) had similar problem and resolve it by changing PC or SATA port.
First of all, let me explain you how the ICH9 SATA works. In the south bridge, there is two SATA controllers. One has four sata ports and the other has two sata ports.
SATA 1 controller 1 Primary Master
SATA 2 controller 1 Secondary Master
SATA 3 controller 1 Primary Slave
SATA 4 controller 1 Secondary Slave
SATA 5 controller 2 Primary Master
SATA 6 controller 2 Secondary Slave
The two slave port have a black connector and are data port. You cannot boot from them and they are not recognize by jungleflasher and dosflash. I don’t use them. I will not talk about them anymore because they are useless.
This is how everything was connected for the key extraction : (working very well until the drive is erased)
SATA1 : liteon
SATA2 : main hard disk (windows XP)
SATA5 : second hard disk
I unplugged the second hard drive and connect the liteon on SATA 5. Miracle, it appeared in every tool (jungleflasher, dosflash) and worked perfectly. I erased it in DOS on the first attempt. It went directly in mode 0x72. I wrote it with my firmware, worked perfecto. I did the vendor outro in jungleflasher because I do not know if it feasible or needed in DOS.
My opinion is that, once the drive was erased, it screwed the controller bus. It reminds me when you put two hard disks on the same IDE PATA cable. Even if one is master and working well, the second hard disk blocks the whole bus if its not configured properly. I suppose something of the same kind happens to SATA controller with virgin drive.
So, to make a long story short : If your liteon drive disappears after erase, make sure it is alone on its sata controller and/or change of sata port.
A last point to those who use the xbox as power supply. After erasing the drive, the xbox power light will flash when you will power it on. It will stay on several minutes then it will turn off by itself. Be warned. I suggest you to power cycle the xbox before erase or write to prevent an unexpected power saving shutdown.
Thank you to everybody who participate in the forum, it helps me a lot. Good luck to those with problem, you will succeed if you keep trying.

Bit confused here.
Just loaded the backup of my liteon fw into jungleflasher. Then loaded 1.6 and spoofed the details into it, seemed to be succesful, so I saved it. Then thought I load it back up to double check it and jungleflasjher says its not a valid fw.
Did I do something wrong? I was going to use this new firmware in dosflash to update my liteon.
jungleflasher 1.59 did not support 1.6 ixtreme, if you check the log you'll see that the firmware type is not displayed
Firmware is a Lite-On encrypted iXtreme OSIG: PLDS DG-16D2S 7485
Firmware type is:
jungleflasher 1.60 will be able to open the file and display the ixtreme 1.6 firmware type and flash fine ;)

what tool are you guys using to verify key from lite one once extracted and you wanna make sure you didn't get zeros?
I tried toolbox 4.5 but it says it can't recognize it.

toolbox supported 1.5 and below i think, toolbox is outdated now jungleflasher can do everything toolbox can including key comparison
For the liteon you don't need a SPECIFIC Sata Card but the VIA selection if you google it is more proper. But if you have a liteon setup to flash the drive you need a CK3 (Connectivity kit lite or pro) it makes it more complicated.

2 Simple Questions:
Do I need a serial connectivity kit to flash the Liteon drive? Also will I need to short those two points somehow on the drive PCB itself to get the key information?
I see a lot of talk in here about the software side of it, but not the hardware. A serial connectivty kit runs ~$40 and the guy around here flashes them for $30 so if I need to buy the kit, I might as well just get him to do it.
Thanks for your help.
EDIT:
Ok so I see someone has successfully flashed the drive without a serial connection kit. What did you use for the "probe" does the probe simply need to short that point on the PCB?
I'm really hoping to completely understand what Im doing before I actually try flashing the drive.

The connectivity kit is well worth it in my opinion, since you wiill eventually have to reflash the drive to update firmware.
Good luck.

If you dont buy the connectivity kit with the probe, you have to make one yourself. Here's the link :
http://xbox-experts.com/e/tutorial.php?n=flashyourliteonf
I made it because I already had all the electronic parts and I am used to soldering. If you dont know what a transistor is, save yourself some work and buy the connectivity kit. It is useful because it also takes care of powering the drive. With the homemade probe, you must use the xbox to power the drive.
BTW, you need a serial port, which is not always present on the back of recent motherboard. Check first.

i have tried the following: have followed tutorial to the tee. try half way open etc. drive recognized ok, put key in, then had to do the lition serial fixer, as that error came up (end of tutorial). so finally got all that info from drive, and loaded target firmware (1.6) spoofed source to target. keys were same - saved file, all seemed good.
Now here is where it has all gone kapoot.
Click on liteon erase, click yes, yes, then when that image appears with the dots, i pull out power plug from back of drive, put back in. as quick as i can.
comes up with the following error:
Status 0x51
Device intro failed.
I kept trying at least 6 times. Just cant understand why this is.
Am using port 2 on the m/board - sata cable, hard drive is in 1.
comp is only 2 years old, so assume the sata part is ok. using winxp
have i buggered the drive, is it erased, can it be recovered back to 1.5
I have all the files on disk, from prev installer.
Or should i try dos , prob should of just done that in the first place, just been so long since using dos, thought tutorial and jungle flasher would be the way to try first.
do u know of any good tutorials making a dos usb for this purpose.
Any more help will be really appreciated, the kids will be so happy if i can get this done.

hi,
Did you close the tray?, what are you using for the erase, JF? did you ensure you got the drive information and it shows on your JF window?

hi, the tray was half closed. after it failed, did some reading and somewhere said to have the tray closed. so i did that and still fail.
using jungleflasher, all keys etc matched, all looked as per the tutorial.

hello everyone
i have problem with lite on driver for 360
while iam trying to flash it with jungleflasher, it stop ejecting
i have followed steps from a book about flashing
everything wnt fine, i got the key and ereased the old frameware 1.50
but there was a step i didn't really understand. It says power off the drive and on in 1 second. What i did is turned the 360 off and on but not in 1 second i kept pressing after it was off but it takes few secondes to go on power
anway i surprised that after power on the green lite flshing like the drive is ejecting or closing but it is not, it is closed and whenever you turn on the 360 console the green light flshing and keep flshing but nothing happen even when you press the eject button. now iam stuck and wondering if i can do the flashing again or the drive has passed away.
anyone can help

Hello all, I've got a problem with erasing the lite-on firmware.
I can't use Dosflash as my pc doesn't have a floppy drive and it won't boot from a dos USB flash drive. And when I run Dosflash16 in CMD it say no atapi devices present.
So I go to the MTK Flash 32 tab in JF and everything shows up there on my sata port the drive is connected to, when I click on Lite-On Erase and click yes on the first dialog, click yes on second dialog and then Turn off and On within a second it gives me this all the time:
Sending Lite-On-Erase request to port 0x4000
Drive returned Status 0x51
........................................
Device Intro failed!
When I run l-o-eras 4000 1 in cmd, it gives
status FFFF
Any ideas or sugestions? I did dump the key and the 3 other files.
Btw If anyone knows, I also got a old Hitachi drive from my RROD'd xbox360 maybe I can spoof that to a Lite-on drive, any tuts on that? But I much rather have the original Lite-on drive in it..
(Using JF 0.1.51 as the newest one wont load the ix51.bin :\)
EDIT:
Spoofed a 4 year old Hitachi 47d drive to lite-on, it's working in my new elite. But still I want the original drive in it :\ But for now it's good

Yeah give it a shot in dos. Lots of people do the read in windows and the erase/flash in dos. Give that a try and if you run into problems, give another post.
Also, drive does not have to be opened to erase/write and serial cable does not have to be connected.

After erasing the drive this is normal behavior. It is in "vendor mode". It will not eject until a new firmware is flashed. Run through the dosflash16 tutorial to finish the erase and new firmware flash. You should experience less problems with freezing and driver issues.
A power cycle is still necessary, using a connectivity kit would be safer, but an unplug and plug back in of the drive would get the job done. Use L-O-ERAS to get the drive to report FF72. It will take more than one try.
Good luck! Post with any more questions.

Hi Guys,
I'm trying to flash my Liteon drive using the CK3 kit with probe and via card, I have downloaded jungle flasher and have installed the the usb drivers for ck3 as well as portIO32.
I've managed to get Jungleflasher to detect the drive and pick up the ck3 on com port 3, i then attach the probe to the r707 contact point an click on get kay in jungle flasher, at this point jungle flasher just sits on egg timer and changes to not responding...
Does anybody know what is causing this and how to get round it??
Apologies if this problem has already been discussed!
Cheers guys
