Reports indicate that the PC version of Wolfenstein has been recalled in Germany due to the containing of possible forbidden content such as Nazi related material.

you dont get the point. Germans talk a lot about what happened at that time. MUCH more then most other countries with -bad- history.

it's not because the rest of the world knows of the past, or to forget what happened. it's the opposite of course.
every country has its cruel history. (killing the natives and taking their land, slavery of africans, india etc...genocite...)

it is to prevent the upcoming of racism. by banning the swastika in any form in videogames.
(though I personally think it is not necessary..)

it is absolutely no problem to talk about the NS regime, but I guess they dont want some retards to play the games with the real symbols, so that they dont associate something cool or fun with that kinda regime.

I do wish Germany as a country would allow itself to get over the whole Nazi issue. I know nobody who blames the country for what happened as they blame the individuals involved. Apart from my own country its the best place I have ever lived. Keeping banning in this way just leaves the wound open forever it feels.

Really? I guess that makes the poilcy even more odd. I assume tho they have yet to figure out that denying somthing to kids and young adults (which would be the main audience for this game no doubt), has the effect that it entices many of them to try and get what they are denied via more nefarious means, so defeating the whole point of removing them and if anything just makes a non-issue into a potential one.

I guess this should just be added to the more stupid laws around, just that this is one that is actively enforced.

The ironic thing is that the publishers Censor their Games themselfs to get a decent USK rating.
We even have a law against Censorship and yet they do it all the Time.
Xbox Live is censored by Microsoft.
Games are censored by the publishers.

Everything that is not USK/FSK 18 lands on the "Index" of the BPjM... a Game on the Index is not allowed to be sold to children, not allowed to be advertised at all and therefore it is practically not to get/not to see. You only are allowed to import Games like say Gears of War or Ninja Gaiden 2. But since it is not allowed to advertise those indicated Games it is not even allowed to write down the Title. Or sell AddOn Maps at Xbox Live.

Thanks to the Internet every child can just download the **** they are not allowed to see and the grown ups allways have difficulties getting Stuff the legal way.

Seriously though I can somewhat understand them doing it. I'm sure if some other country made a video game about American slaves in the 1800's it would instantly be banned in America. We don't want to remember our ugly past anymore than the rest of the world.

Most Americans (yes I am one) are so egocentric, culture-centric and flat out stupid, they view the world with their own prejudiced eyes and fail to understand the total embarrassment of what Germany did to the Jews.
