Reuters: PS3 sales up 300 percent, shortages expected

Reuters reports that Sony has revealed that sales of the PS3 have increased by 300 percent recently. Such an increase in sales has sparked expectations that a shortage may well be on the horizon for PS3.

The PS3 sales peak after the price drop, was about the same as their peak last Christmas. If they did not run out of units last Christmas then it is not likely that they will run out now.

unfortunately the wii is dropping in price so i highly doubt sony could over shadow the crazyness wii will have this tail end of the year

If numbers sold is actually that good then using the old percentage line is not needed. If they sold 1 then 3 the folowing week then thats a 300% increase, but he actual numbers sold is not that impressive.

At the launch of the Slim the sales increased somthing like about 100% or so from the previous week, however the 360 sales only increased about 30% which sounds worse, but both sold about the same in actual units sold. Using percentages is marketing BS when it comes to numbers sold. The only time the percentage becomes worth whileis looking at the percentage of total sales on all formats

Indeed not bad at all, but why not say that in the first place unless it's not real figures, as in the whole numbers shipped nonsense we see a lot of these days. Just irritates me when they are stil trying the old BS that gave them such a bad name.

Any customers who would see this claim would be in a situation to check the numbers sold, and the only people who it really matters to are share holders and the stock market, and they will have to be givent he exact numbers sold, or are given percentage increase over a much longer period not a couple of weeks. Thwe only people it may work on would likley never even see it unless it was on the 6 o'clock news or somthing, and even then they would give actual figures or tell you it was numbers shipped.

I know Sony are just doing the same as any other company, but you would think after all the bad press they have recieved in t the past from marketting BS, they would have cut this crap as it has a tendency to bite them in the ass, especially on the shortage nonsense. There was no shortage at the launch, in fact the oppposite was the problem, can't see why theyre would be one now with all the surplus fat ones still about.
