i have the 'Yellow Light of Death' (YLOD) If your PS3 will not turn on, or if it turns on and the yellow LED flashes then blinks red you have an overheating problem and some of the connections to the motherboard may have been broken -

found a place on the net called www.videogamerepairs.co.uk

has anyone used them before

price for repair os £69.99

Sony have offered me a exchange for £128

but i prefer to keep my old data

any suggestions on repairs

thanks

I don't know those guys but his google answer to a nintendo DS repair question sounds pretty good.

Another place you could try is Total Console Repair they're affiliated with game.co.uk and the following link should give you 10% off http://www.totalconsolerepair.co.uk/forms/index.asp?sc=5036

Its still £102 and i think outbound shipping is your responsibility but if they're repairing your console and it has nothing to do with the hdd you should keep all your data.

Be aware that if you do send it into Sony for repair they will most likely send you a new (refurb) machine. My friend sent his PS3 into repair that he upgraded his hard drive to 320GB. When he got his machine back it had the standard 80GB :(

it seems that i may as well bin this unit and buy a slim, as they use less energy, larger hard drive, and quieter

is there an negatives on the slims
