Holy cow Batman, that was out of the blue, I didn't know it was coming out on PSN at all!
This is great news though, let's hope they sort the US version for the English speaking FF fans soon, it'd be nice (understatement) to have it run perfectly on PSP.

Finally..I hope for a Pal version...Pal on psp is a sh*t...thought freeze, no sound, and other thing...but for now no hope to play it without a CFW.

Even when the game comes out, it won't work on M33 (or GEN). 6.00 is needed for the game to work. Take MGS for example, it needs 5.50 or higher to run. Even the PSN release has the glitchy audio if you try to run it on 5.00 (that was the reason why I upgraded to GEN).
We won't be able to play it fully until 6.00 is turned into a CFW.

Depends if they release it via the UK/NTSC PSN. Jade Cocoon (which is a problematic game to emulate) was released on the PSN in Japan in June and didn't come out. I know the FF series is more popular, but there's a fair few fans of JC still about and I was suprised when I read Sony had no plans to release it in the west.
Playing FF8 with no fuss would be nice, but a 6.00 CFW needs to be released. Of course, a certain Persona release is my biggest worry at the moment - I know I'll be able to play it on OFW but I hope a CFW does come out.
I'm sure there will be some sort of CFW update though, to facilitate this "Playstation Room" Sony are implementing on the PSP.

No need for that. The only thing we need is a popsloader that can load 6.00 and 6.10 pops, which should be doable.

I've been playing the US PSN copy and so far its working perfectly fine on 5.50 GEN D3. No battle lag and it didn't freeze on the intro.
I'm just coming up to the tower in Dollett, and its still freezing when scan is cast.
Its only going to be fixed with either a 6.xx CFW or an update to popsloader.

That's sad to hear, i guess i will finish crisis core (i refuse to use the umd) and go official when its released in the EU.

For those who didn't get it, ff8 is out since today on the US PSN store! Let's hope for EU to follow soon..

So am I to gather from this thread that the official FF8 from the PSN doesn't work any better than a converted FF8 from PS1 discs?

So am I to gather from this thread that the official FF8 from the PSN doesn't work any better than a converted FF8 from PS1 discs? The game works as intended, The problem is using the emulator from firmware 5.50 with a game that requires the emulator from 6.00-6.20.
AFAIK that requires a new version of popsloader and the .prx files from the 6.20 firmware.

Long story short... Yes...Can you verify that by running the converted image on 6.20?
For all we know Sony also patched the game, which is why i responded like i did ;)

Well, the converted image is impossible to run on 6.20 because there is no 6.20 custom firmware, correct?

FFVIII is out somedays ago in USA PSN, (if don't wrong ), The I think need 6.20 for a full compatibility.
You right, no 6.20Cwf there is. Only hope is that develps, release a new popslaoder version to use 6.20 popstation.

I was browsing PSN on my PS3 when I noticed that FFVIII was out. I was so excited because I thought that meant that I could finally play on both PSP and PS3 and xfer the saves back and forth. Then I came here and got reminded about the need for a fw update. :(
I can only hope that some method comes out that allows us to play this game correctly (either new CFW or popsloader). In the meantime I'll hold off on my purchase with fingers crossed.
