Capcom has confirmed that Super Street Fighter IV (their leaked surprise) will be released on a standalone Xbox 360 and PS3 disc during Spring 2010.

While fortune tellers the world over can pat themselves on the back for predicting the inclusion of new characters (‘roughly’ eight in total, including T-Hawk and Juri) in Super Street Fighter IV few predicted it will come to Xbox 360 and PS3 on a standalone disc.

Other changes will come in the form of enhancements influenced by the Street Fighter IV community, online upgrades and a rebalancing of characters (thank gods!). So, the opportunity of being able to select characters during multi-player without the opposition seeing could be on the way, along with lobbies.

Due to the scope of the update, it wasn’t possible for Capcom to do this through DLC but they have said that those who already have a copy of Street Fighter IV Lite should keep hold of it for an as yet unexplained bonus.

I have been following the development of this story. Some thoughts:

I like that it'll be a completely stand-alone game and not just DLC, as I don't like to pay for purely digital stuff. I need sth to put on my shelf.
Also, a disc release doesn't alienate XBOX Premium / Arcade owners.
This version ist gonna be cheaper than full price. So it'll most likely be 40 to 50 dollars and I can live with that, seeing the changes that they put into the new version. (the 8 new fighters alone would've cost nearly 40 dollars, IMO)
Nobody complains about sports games coming out every year.
People who have both versions will get a suprise of some sort.
Finally, SFIV was released in august in Japan. This one will be released in spring 2010, so IMO it is okayto release another SF game. Just look at the SNES iterations of SFII.
