installed in my Wii and it has the 4.1u firmware on the system. Now my question is can i update the wii? Will it cause problems to my drivekey to read my backups?

pretty sure chips still work but 4.2 kills HBC, BannerBomb, BootMii, and cIOS. I would recomend not updating

Your chip will work fine still with 4.2
But as of right now... No Homebrew or anything. If you dont use Homebrew... and don't want to use Homebrew (as right now, theres no way to put HBC back on it) then you can update. But unless a game you want to play needs 4.2, it's probably best to wait anyway.
But like snake said. The Chip will still play your backups.

I was so happy that 4.2 update deleted all this useless homebrew, they cant even make a normal nes emulator.

Should i disable the chip before updating? So as long as I dont care for homebrew i will be alright by updating, should i remove the homebrew channel ?I read somewhere that you can brick the wii if i was to remove that channel. Just to be clear the latest firmware which is 4.2 will not block my chip right? I know i sound like a broken record

As long as the chip is up to date it shouldn't matter. The chip only affects the DVD drive which is independent of the system software although old firmwares can be detected for some chips.

i would not recoment too update too 4.2 because it remove your region free from the wiikey 1 and that means that it will only play games from your ovn region . but i have read in another forum that you can use geekoos and then you will stil be able too play games from another region .
