The new Modern Warfare 2 video game will be hitting UK shores with a higher than usual retail price of 54.99 UKP. But Activision have recently attempted to defend this pricing point by saying the fans will get great value and longevity from the title and so are prepared to pay 'more' for it.

"At the end of the day, there is a spectrum of what people can afford and what people are prepared to spend. These things are key," said Brown.

"This is an industry where things cost a lot to develop and it’s a risky business. We talk about building franchises; it is very expensive to do this from every respect. What we are finding is that for the right products, if you look at the time someone will spend playing something and compare it to something else, people are saying it's worth it." he added.

Wow, that would be $67.43 in the US. You guys were getting ripped off before the price hike.

Perfect reason to download it instead of buying.
Its bullshit when they try and give good reasons for charging more for a game saying "oh if people can afford it"

Greedy twats, Its so funny as to the fact that they never think, "oh, if we were to lower the set price of games we would make more sales"
No, its oh some can afford it others cant.

I guess they dont care about loosing money?

Hell, from that statment, im going to download it 4 times and give a copy to everyone I know even if they dont have a 360.

When I was in Tesco the weekend looking for Fifa10 I did ask them if they were going to do the same pricing for Modern Warfare 2 and they replied yes since Fifa10 sold so well......They will do the same for Forza 3 too......:)

In Spain it cost 69€ ( 101 $USD ) and the special edition 87€ ( 127 $USD), 95% of the games are over 60 euros (I'm talking about new games)... and Fifa 2010 has the same price!!!! Talk about the change rate:mad::mad::mad:

Hamachi is going to get more popular that's for sure but its still no substitute for a serial code and hundreds to thousands of servers.

Let me translate this for you: "Hey, you guys get screwed by Sony with the $599 launch price and Microsoft charging you for every add-on and an annual subscription fee. This is really nothing if you look at it that way, buy it... you know you want to."

Agreed it's greed but it's also the norm unfortunately it's because it's a popular title and they know people will pay.
They would make more sales but not necessarily more money. Any business which can make the same amount of money but with fewer sales prefers the fewer sales.

The biggest problem I see is if they get away with it, other will follow suit and soon all games will be more expensive. I love COD but I'm skipping this one at launch just out of principle, I just hope enough others have the intestinal fortitude to do the same, but I doubt that will be the case.

I'm with you on this, I'm going to wait until it falls in price or if I spot a good deal again. I was gutted when I found the Tesco deal had finished.

I remember the days of nintendo's high prices in the 90's, look what the jap version of street fighter 2 went for in the UK when it first came out.......£120 i saw it in 1 shop and still people bought it.
I afraid if these companys follow suit and start stickin the prices up, then more people who wasnt bothered about copying games are going to go to start.
