View Full Version : Wal-Mart begins pre-owned games scheme
US Supermarket Wal-Mart has commenced its pre-owned game scheme. It promises that each pre-owned game is polished, tested and inspected prior to its re-sale.

US supermarket giant Wal-Mart has begun selling pre-owned games for the first time.
The ASDA parent has previously installed trade-in kiosks in its stores – a move which has been followed by the likes of Best Buy and the UK’s very own GAME.
Now, however, Wal-Mart has also launched a standalone in-store pre-owned section – suggesting its kiosk experiment has been a success.
According to the firm's website, each pre-owned game the grocer handles will be 'polished, tested and inspected prior to shipping'.

Gonna have to wait and see how this turns out, hope it stomps Gamestop in the dirt :POr they could unite under-the-table and start price gouging the customers together. "Well Gamestop is selling it for $5.00 less than retail, we think it's the industry standard for pre-owned games."

Like that'll ever happen.
The videogame departments at the Walmarts I've been to have either old people or fobs, who don't know crap about gaming or electronics for that matter.
I'm referring to the polishing, checking, etc.

"Dude, gramps this one has a BIG ASS scratch on it."
"Oh... really?" *adjusts glasses and squints* "Oh wow... so there is a slight mark there after all... Still good, right?"

Why anyone would be interested in buying gamestop is beyond me, it is a business model that is doomed. Unless they can get it real cheap where the couple billion annual profit would pay for the up front cost and then some before being forced to close it's doors, I would stay far far away.
Besides Best Buy has tried this before, buying a dying business model, ie stores that primarily sold music cd's (Sam Goody, Media Play, etc) and now none of those stores exist. So if you like gamestop you better hope this rumor is false.

I have to wonder how this is going to work out too.... quite often Walmart's new price on a game is lower then Gamestop's used price.
I always check Walmart first for a price (usually online) to see what I should expect.
The one thing I do enjoy about Walmart and games is that sometimes they have some gems for like 10-20$ sure they may be older games but they are still fun :)
If the new price is in that 10-20$ range is the used price going to be lower? If so then I will be in heaven and Gamestop will be in hell.

I would take $5 over what I saw the other day. Batman: Gotham Knight on 360 for £38 brand new in Game (I think) or get it pre-owned for £37.99.
