A question was posed on another message board a while back about changing the region code to play UMD movies from other regions.

The CFW option to spoof the region has never worked.

Someone at the time said something about changing the actual region code by an idstorage change. They never went into detail about it though.

Is this possible, and if so, how is it done???

I'd like to finally be able to play some USA regioned UMD movies on my JPN launch 1000 PSP.

Yes it's possible, and is made possible by the IDStorage regeneration facility of DCv7 or DCv8. You'll lose the Magic Gate keys (these cannot currently be regenerated) but will be able to switch the "hardware region " of your PSP.

What exactly will losing the magicgate tags DO though???

Will it just effect the half-assed unreliable memoiry stick test, or will it make the sticks not work anymore???

Only regenerating the IDstorage will make you loose your Magic Gate keys. If all you do is change the region code DC8 will not change anything else. Just remember to create a full NAND backup.
