Selling wii need advice

Hi all,

Im selling my wii which is fitted with a wiikey v1
Im looking for advice on what to do to upgrade. I havent followed the wii scene for months so im pretty out of touch.

Basically im running 3.1 firmware.
Pall wii.
I want to upgrade so it will play new backups. But it would be handy if i could keep the homebrew channel.

Any help or links would be appreciated.

EDIT - I have never used wads and all backups played are from disc if this helps.

Wow this must be the 3rd or 4th question i have asked @ maxconsole forums in the wii section and none have been answered! Didnt know it was so dead here nowadays.

You have to be careful now when changing system menus as many of the old files are no longer available and can cause a brick. In general system menu 3.2 is the standard but only use offline methods and dont get any files from nintendo's servers using only offline methods as they have put dummy IOS files on it. System menu 4.1 is also acceptable but I recommend wanikoko's upgrader (again offline only). Also install bootmii as boot2 and do a nand backup, DONT UPGRADE OFFICIALLY TO 4.2 as it removes bootmii as boot2 and can brick the system.

New IOS files can be installed seperatly so you dont have to upgrade the system menu and generally only IOS 38, 53 and 55 are needed IIRC and can be installed using DOP-IOS (dl.qj.net) and shop channel access can be gained using WIISCU (from wiibrew.org).

If your using a wiikey though and your not bothered with HBC can i just upgrade to latest nintendo firmware and it will still run my disk backups?

I would install 1.9s and the config disc, enable everything but make the drive 3x. This should work.
