And will I have to connect every time I want to play a divx file?

Is the codec included in the new update (the one that breaks homebrew)??

You only need to connect once to download the codec after that you can watch DIVX movies while offline

was the media update downloaded on another xbox? if so try transfering the content through the MS DRM transfer web page

Pretty sure it was downloaded on this xbox. Happened again today, net went down for 15 mins, so i got the error and couldn't watch.

Have you more than one profile on that xbox360 HDD?

If not, create a second profile on the same storage device as your own profile.

If so, Sign in using new profile, then try to play a divx file, it will ask you to download a media update. Once that is done you should be able to play divx offline using any profile on that storage device when its plugged into that xbox360.
