do i really need to unlock and read the hitachiFL79 to replace hitachi 79FL with the samsungMS28 ?

I wanted to know if i can flash my replacement samsung ms28 that is coming in the same process that I have flashed my other samsung ms28. I wanted to take out a hitachi 79FL dvd and put in a samsung ms28.

Because I only know how to read and flash the samsung.

I have already bought a samsung ms28 dvd drive to replace the hitachi 79FL

But now 2 different people have told me 2 different things one person told me that all I need to do is take out the hitachi put in the samsung and flash the samsung like normal.

Someone else told me that i need to get keys off of the hitachi and use them to flash the samsung, which i take as meaning i would need to unlock and read the hitachi, which i cant do.

So i wanted to post on this site hoping someone could tell me if i really need to unlock and read the hitachi to accomplish replacing the hitachi 79FLwith the samsungMS28.

Because if this is the case i am just gonna leave the hitachi dvd in the xbox360 and sell it

I dont think I want to mess with it, if i cant just simply put the samsung replacment in the 360 and flash it

i posted questions on another web site asking if i can use any 360 dvd drive on any any 360
and i said that i only flash samsungs

someone posted back saying, "yea sure you can use any 360 dvd with any 360"
so i just assumed they read the part about me only flashing samsungs

i think i am just gonna sell it on ebay

i wanted it because it has a extra hi def output

i have been looking at guides on youtube

do we still have to do all of this to flash a hitachi, burn slax to cd, burn open 79 to cd, using the command box and using a retail dvd ?

so if i have to do all this then its just not worth it to me to learn all of this

dont get me wrong i am not a idot i could do it if i found a good guide but i have looked for hours and have only found peices to the puzzle
and i just dont care anymore, it is so much easier to flash samsungs

Do i really need to unlock and read the hitachiFL79 to replace hitachi 79FL with the samsungMS28 ?

You must read the original drive first before you flash or spoof another drive.
You can use any drive in a 360 but you need the drive key which the motherboard has and checks with the dvd drive. They must match or it wont boot anything.

i have been looking at tutorials the one on this site mentions hitachi 78 but not 79

i dont know if they are the same

the guide doesnt say if i should use the portIO driver to detect the hitachi

or just driver that came with my via sata chip

it just says if windows doesnt detect your hitachi than check your drivers

i am assuming that i use portIO

one guide metions burning unlock 79 to disc but doesnt say where to download it, and the guides on here dont mention unlock 79 disc

Check the new guide at jungleflasher.
You should remove your VIA drivers as well. Not 100% needed but my jungleflasher stopped crashing after i did that and i dont even have a liteon.
