View Full Version : Infinity Ward defends lack of campaign length in Modern Warfare 2
Infinity Ward has attempted to defend the lack of length in the Modern Warfare 2 campaign by arguing it is the experience not the length of a game that should have the final say. Apparently, Modern Warfare 2 will last no longer than six hours as was the case with the original version.

Im not sure this game is going to live up to all the hype.
Its sounding more and more like greed has finally got them.

As long as it means more multiplayer content, then I'm all for it. :D

when they quote these times six hours normally takes me eight to ten anyway, i like to explore and admire the work they've done not blast through it in no time only to realise you don't even know what was to the left and right of you.

I think they are short changing us a little. I mean look at Dead Space, excellent single player campaign and fairly lengthy. I guess Gears of War 2 might be a closer comparison due to the multi-player component. That was a fairly lengthy game as well. I think it all comes down to them wanting to sell extra content. You could always wait for the Game of the Year edition.

Hl2, imo one of the greatest games, has 10+ hours SP and has a great expetience.
I think multi has just become an excuse now to make games cheaper but they still charge allot for it.
I personally dont care about multiplayer so it will be a problem for me, one reason why i couldnt justify buying odst.
Piracy may not be good, but they're giving a damn good reason why you should do it if its not worth the price.

I would be happy with 8-10 hrs of their quoted time, but 6 is just too short for a game that is setting new price heights and will be full of dlc for only multi player. I would say I wil wait for a budget price but the old modern warfare is still selling at a silly high price and I only own that due to a gamestation sale before xmas and I got it for £20 which seemed right for the shortness of the game at the time.

Dead Space was too long, don't get me wrong that kind of value out of EA was fantastic and was extremely enjoyable but they could of snipped two levels worth of filler out of it, by the end there was just this expectation of every mission objective going wrong, it not being the end of the game and being sent somewhere else it made it somewhat anti-climatic for me at least until the shockers :p

I can see your point. I didn't play through it in one go, though. In fact, I bought it at launch and just now beat it, lol.

Translation, "You're going to buy it anyway. It's not like you'll really play single-player over multi-player. We're going to be RICH!"
Just play it on veteran. You'll get more than 6 hours out of it that way.

This game has taken low to a new....low....I don't think a game has been released in history that has been so overhyped before release. Prices have gone up, other games have been pushed back. What next? I'm sure theres a religion in there somewhere.

Halo 3, that was hyped beyond all sane logic.
You have two types of hype though:
1) The publisher hype, so Halo 3, etc where the publisher launches a massive advertising campaign and keeps it in media attention constantly.
2) The consumer hype, that's what MW2 falls under, Activision haven't really been promoting MW2 beyond the level of a normal game. Sure its on front covers of magazines and adverts in magazines but its not plastered everywhere.
Both types can be as bad as each other, but its not hype it has to live up to its expectations. To be honest 6 hours is really short considering. You could argue multiplayer all day long, but some games have it both. A decent length single player and multiplayer. And yes, expect 3-4 map packs along the way, maybe 5 or 6 even. Personally I would make 7-8 map packs and release them across 2 years at the cost of 400-600 MS points (or PSN equivalent).

Halo 3 came out in the form of a beta, albeit one that whored out another game, but a beta nonetheless. Halo 3 also launched at normal price.
This game is too good for a demo/beta apparently. Also have you been on the internet for the past 6 months or so? This game and almost everyone remotely involved with it is giving interviews and promos to anyone who will listen.

for MW2 to be anywhere near as sucessfull as cod4 it needs to do what cod4 did and revolutionize the FPS genre again. if not then there are going to be alot of angry people

Luckily the beta was bundled with a good game...I had actually avoided crackdown when it was released because I assumed it was a mediocre game that MS was trying to push by including the beta...but picked it up after the beta was over for cheap...turned out to be one of my favorite games this generation. Incidently...I liked it alot more than Halo 3. :) I buy games primarily for the single player experience, so im likely skipping MW2 until its cheap too.
