View Full Version : Best Buy opening 360's, updating firmware and charging $30 extra
Another example of Best Buy attempting to squeeze every penny out of un-educated gamers here. Apparently, one employee hooked up a 360 to the internet, downloading the latest system update and tried to charge $30 extra for the system because of the update!

Bryan sent us this photo he shot at a local Best Buy that shows a helpful employee named Kim has opened an Xbox 360, hooked it up to the internet and pressed the "X" button, downloading the latest system update. For all this hard, un-requested work, she also added $29.99 to the sticker price.

Where's the receipt to show that he was really charged $30? How would this even happen? If you want a 360 at Best Buy, you walk up to a huge stack of them, pick it up, and take it to the cashier.
This seems bogus to me.

What a non-story, remember when MaxConsole used to report REAL news? I used to come to this site several times a day, now I come once a week just to laugh at the pathetic links to other sites.
To address the topic, whoever paid the $30 was a idiot and fails at life. Like poisonousjuice stated, we are all aware how Best Buy works, you walk over to the self, grab one of about 10-40 boxes, take it up to the register, and decided on a extended warranty then you pay. However the sharpie in question got charged $30 for a Dashboard update in anyone's guess.

That pic looks very legit ( NOT )...
They would never write in marker on box as a receipt.

One of their polices is that if an item is open they have to sell it as an open box item and mark it down as such. I believe it's printed on the receipts. This is totally bogus and not news worthy at all.
It just says "firmware update" on the box.
Maybe Kim flashed iXreme for $29.99. :p

Ah, this is the news story I referenced in that one article about the guy that got the free 360. For those who didn't read it, people were saying that he should return it, because it's the right thing to do. My post pointed out that while he should return it, it's just karma getting back at BB for pulling this stunt. There is no excuse for this kind of retail robbery.

I think they also charge $99.99 to deliver it to your house and turn it on for you.

Doesn't match up.
You don't need to open up your xbox for a live update. The only time you need to open up your console is............well....you know
I think they also charge $99.99 to deliver it to your house and turn it on for you.
lol........

Wow..
The stupidity and need for internet attention from some people.
The guy let A FEMALE open his $300 system and update it.. connect it to a tv near an internet connection in best buy??? then let her charge $30 without asking why?
Sounds like either BS, or a worker who found a way to con a dumbass out of $30 tip
EDIT... Jees, and I thought MAxcone was bad on this crap... Read the orginal article and see how dopey the guy who wrote it up was. Some people are damn near stupid.
As soon as chick opened the box I would have been like Excuse, what are you doing. Once she told me, I would laugh, ask for a manager to mark down the price and hopefully get the dumbass female fired.
If my best buy tried this I would be leaving with more then my xbox for that $300 price tage.

Let's think outside the box here.
What's the one thing that sucks about opening your 360? Voiding your warranty. If these "Inspected by best by stickers" allow you to open up your 360. I would literally pay the 30 just to get that sticker so I can mod the **** out of my 360 and not break the warranty because best buy let me.
