What is the use of the remote play feature for the PS3 and PSP?

I just bought myself a PS3 Slim 250 GB bundle. I was looking at the features and I set up the remote play function between the PSP 1003 and PS3. I got the PS3 XMB on the PSP screen, after that I don't what I can do with that feature. I inserted a game on the PS3, it didn't work/ show up on PSP with some message of sorts, put in a DVD it didn't play via remote play but other wise plays normally outside of the remote play feature.

So what i can do with this feature?

And can I play Video CDs with the PS3?

You cannot use remote play to view DVDs and PS3 games must offer specific support for remote play to be useful.

What you can do is play PSone games on your PSP from your PS3, watch video files, listen to music it can also be used with the PlayTV addon.

PS3 doesn't support VCD/SVCD or at least it didn't last time i checked.
