Infinity Ward has revealed that it is best if the developers handle the marketing of the game. The reason being is that they know every little detail about their title and know what their target audience is expecting from the game.

The acclaimed production house has been directly involved in all the marketing and PR activities for its upcoming Modern Warfare 2 – working with Activision on when and how details should be given to the press.

“We know everything there is to know about Modern Warfare 2,” Infinity Ward’s community manager Robert Bowling told MCV.

“Not only do we know the game but we know the gamer. We know what to expect from them and what they expect from us. So it helps us guide design decisions and decisions overall, including with PR.”

Thats why they total pissed off the pc gamers trying to turn MF2 into xbox live or a mmo.

Ill stick with x4 mod and save myself 60 bones.

IW have lost total touch with their understanding of the "Gamer". The PC Community is about to turn its back on a franchise it created by whole heartedly supporting COD from day one. The 3 online petitions with over 250,000 signatures (lets not forget ONLY 36,000 signed the Anti-Blair petition) suggest IW don't know their gaming audience at all and to let them market their own product would be a monumental disaster and would see the demise of IW. Robert, stop getting dillusions of Grandeure, let the Publishers do what they do best.

Here IW's marketing plan:
1. make Cod4 a decent game
2. change the name to confuse people
3. remove the features which make PC games superior (mods and ded. servers)
4. make the SP a mere 6 hours
5. Charge £10-20 more than most new game releases
6. ???
7. Profit!- you know its going to happen.

but the extra £10-20 was the publishers decision I think.

Either way they can go **** themselves.

Definitely, a developer would be better at marketing their own game. The problem is that the publisher would be the one funding the advertisements so they're not likely to give all the decisions on marketing to the developers.

I swear I'm so tempted to pirate MW2 just because of this but I cannot justify it.

it's not even as if they spent some unusually long time developing the game for it to warrant the price of development. It's their game and they can charge what they want but I'm not going to buy it at that price and can't bring myself to pirate it either.

You can pirate it at launch, and then buy it once the price comes down later. :D
