Hello everybody

I have my Xbox 360 since April 09 so it’s still under warranty. The box is a jasper with a liteon DG16D2S drive. I flashed it correctly with the latest ixtreme in May and use it since then. The problem is that I have read errors. They manifest by “open tray” and “dirty or scratched disc” during play or copy to hard drive.

At the beginning, the problem was only with backups. I pot tweaked the laser for a few months and it made the situation better for a short time but now it’s worse. Now I have this problem with originals. It’s obviously not flash or media related. The pot is back to its original value. What do I do now?

1. Call MS and send the box under warranty? The drawback is that I want to keep a Jasper and that the box has been tampered. The stickers are there but worn out. The drive sticker is torn in two parts.

2. Change the laser. Where do you buy them? I searched on eBay but there is not much info for liteon drive. The laser that looks the most like mine is the HOP-141 but sellers say it’s for BenQ. Is the HOP141 compatible? Do I need to flash again if I change only the laser?

3. Change the whole drive. I read a little bit about the spoof thing but it’s not really clear to me. Is it the best solution? I buy a drive on eBay? Which drive should I buy? A brand new liteon? Will a new liteon work better with backups or it’s the drive itself that’s designed not to read burned DVD ?

Please help me. If you have already changed your laser or drive, please tell me your experience, especially if its with a liteon. Thank you.

I am pretty sure the benq and the lite-on use the same laser.

Maybe someone with more knowledge can verify that.
