A new study based in the UK denotes that music pirates actually spend nearly double the average consumer on music. This seems to support a view that pirates are merely illegally downloading music to 'trial' it before a full purchase.

A new study from the UK (via The Independent) has shown what many piracy-advocates have been saying for years. While the average person spends around £34 a year on music, people who self-identify as pirates spend an average of £77. The pirates are also the ones buying music in greater quantities. For years, piracy advocates have claimed that most users only pirate as a way to 'test' new bands and seek out more music to buy.

Gee, wow...ya THINK!?

Most of us so called "Pirates" are the ones with Collector's Editions of games, library's of "Collector's Quality" titles (Some, most or ALL still sealed) etc etc

I'd laugh if I got "busted"...come see my collection of retail games/cd's and see how well your **** holds up in court. :P

Thank you fucking much.
I may download tv shows i miss, cds that are new, games that I wana play before I send $70.....
But, I then go and buy the 2cd limited editions, CE games, Box set bluray and full seasons of tv shows.

What I dont like I erase.
Im not condoning, but I treat it like a test drive on a car. If it drives like crap and wobbles down the street, im not paying for it to take home. Costs the same as renting and gives to a different type of media company lol

I have a 4 shelf book shelf filled with dvd/bluray cases. Plus the cabinest under my tv. I have boxes of cds/cases in ym closet along with 2 garbage bags filled with older dvd cases. I have 3 shelves of 360 and ps games.

its fun looking at pretty things knowing i paid for them

I already say it for so long, making backups or downloading them doesn’t result in lesser sells, only more.

Just an example, I have a flashed xbox360 (also a none flashed) I have more than 100 real games for it!!!! I also have a ps3, we all know it can't be flashed or whatever and I only have about 20 games for it, but... I have like a 100 blu-ray movies!!! I can download them and watch on ps3 or xbox360, so it’s very simple, if you can try it out or watch it, then you can decide to buy something.
Whit out this I wouldn’t have bought so much games or movies.

I am with you cryp, back in the days of Napster, I came across a lot of stuff of which I was not aware. The stuff that I really liked, I went and bought. As a matter of fact, I bought more CDs during Napster's heyday than I had my entire life prior to that moment. I have also purchased games, such as the Resident Evil series because I "tried" them out first. I have a collection of over 400 movies and televisions shows that I have purchased. I do not go to the cinema very often, but sometimes I will acquire a movie and if I like it I end up buying it. For everyone that claims pirates equals loss of sales, I can find cases where pirates equate to sales gains. The point I have always made is there is no real credible evidence for either side.

April will be a fun month i can't wait for the first people to be busted, court evidence of bribes, people displaying receipts for what they've been caught with, piles of DVDs CDs and games dumped in the middle of courts, juries unable to get a grasp on the technology involved, experts explaining wireless is always exploitable unless you have the latest hardware and best of all ministers kids getting caught affecting their careers.

I dont pirate anymore but did when I was younger, I would have to agree with this simply based on my own spending habits, when I was downloading music and games I tended to buy alot of them if I liked them, especially music as I would discover a band and decide I needed their back catalog. In recent years I can count the number of cd's I have picked up on one hand, I dont listen to Music on the radio so I dont get exposed to anything new. The RIAA should be happy though, I haven't downloaded any new stuff, I simply stopped being a customer altogether. My game buying has slowed down as well...I used to buy around 4 games a month...now I buy 1 or 2 at the most (the exception being the occasional b2g1 sales where im still technically only buying 2 anyway).

I really do wish they would come up with a foolproof way to block music piracy...just so I could sit back and laugh when the RIAA tries to explain away lost sales while realizing they have run out of things to blame.
