Major Nelson has confirmed that LIVE hit a new record earlier on as Modern Warfare 2 drove XBOX LIVE to have OVER two million gamers connected to the service all at once!

Today, Xbox Live had a record breaking day. Two million people were connected to Xbox Live service at one time today. I’m sure a lot of those people were playing Modern Warfare 2, but that is still impressive. Imagine cramming all two million of those people into a small room to play Xbox?

The announcement was made by Major Nelson through a tweet

We just hit a new #XboxLIVE record: Over TWO MILLION people connected to the service at once.

Congrats to the guys at MS for that achievement. Let me turn on my xbox to add to those 2 million.

i bet there were plenty of people online. routing between you and them could have been banned preventing you from being able to play them

either way, 2 million online on live.. wow. lol i bet psn has a total of 2million users in general and like 100 000 online

true, they would of had alot more online if they didnt throw the ban hammer!
but at least they can say it was mostly unmodified 2mil? so it seems more legit.

As much money as they could lose from DLC deterring pirates is probably a better investment. Devs/publishers probably feel more secure their games will turn a profit after these actions, which could mean more games from them. Whether that's the case or not, they rather not have piracy on their console (despite any actual help sales might have gotten from it). Look at sony and the ps3, sure it started off slow and was looking like a total disaster for a year or two, and the whole pirate navy only knew how to chant "when it's hacked I'll buy one" and sure enough quite a few would have probably bought a ps3 under those circumstances, but I'm fairly confident that if given the choice between a quick rise in hardware sales, or the slow and difficult road that they've followed sony would take the same hard and difficult road. It might, or might not be true that piracy killed the psp, but I doubt any console manufacturer wants to willingly test that theory. Considering the investment put into a video game console, I can understand why.

HEy dope...
There were actualy do msny people on PSN compared to Live that the servers crashed.
Got o COD 4 and a few other games and see how the number has sropped by about half?? yeah, all those other people went and got PS3's.

You guys keep on loving your xboxes, but sorry to say about 50% of those people wont be there later due to being banned. I know Im not going to go and waste anymore money on Xboxes. Amongst breaking more then a cheap chinese... anything, Being banned just doesnt really make me like them anymore.

I understand I got banned for doing wrong, but if I have to buy a new system and games.... why not get a "new" system and games and try it out.

Servers crash= lots more people then expected..
But in ilnesses world it means PSn sux hard I bet,
Also...
Since every xbox with an enthernet cable in it is "connected to live" this also count for silver members, people just watching movies and people who just turned their xbox on. It doesnt mean there were 2 million playing.
MS likes to leave the important stuff out
