View Full Version : Hackers find a way to un-ban Xbox 360 consoles!
It was inevitable that the hacking scene would fight back in some way to the bans that MS has imposed on modified systems. And it looks as if they have now found a super technical way to un-ban recently banned Xbox 360's but it looks to require a heck of a lot of 'know how'.

This has been known for a long time, basically its like swapping the eeprom on the origional Xbox.
The second unbanned console needed for this would never be able to go on live again... not that you would want it to if its running homebrew anyway ;)

This is not really new and has been known for sometime.
Problem is, you need a donor console that will not be going on live and it has to be an exploitable xbox.
Now if I remeber correctly the MAC will still be the same and who knows if the MAC is flagged as well??

This method is great and all, but why would you go through the trouble of doing this??
You could just put the unbanned console you are dumping the virgin NAND from on live and update. You already have a working/unbanned console.
If the goal is to retain its homebrew capabilities, installing a 2nd NAND (via modchip) seems like a much better/robust solution.

ive had 2 banned in the space of a week the second one didnt even have a chance to play a game i wached the mw2 preview then was signed out and banned so if you go thru all that you get banned again no more xbl for modded consoles ever again ms have sorted the problem once and for all

Just play single player games on the 360 if its been banned. Not every game needs to be played online and there are some preety fantastic single player only games out there. If you do ant to play online titles, buy them selectively and play them on the ps3 for free. Who needs xbox live anyways?

EXACTLY!
Assassins Creed 2 is an awesome single player game but I will be buying it on the PS3 as it can link to the PSP and AC Bloodlines.
There are numerous reasons why PS3 is better then 360 and the bannings is a very good reason. Also the connectivity between the PS3 and PSP is another.
My PS3 has can play PS2 backups for over a year and its not banned and I don't ever see it getting banned. If you put an extra fan in the 360 it gets banned. M$ are retards.

exactly, if u really want live then have a 2nd umodded console.
only real way to never get banned.

That's really my biggest concern. I don't know if I'm banned, but I'm sure as hell not going to try to find out.
I was thinking though, if there are a million banned console out there, doesn't that mean that there is now a market to start seriously making homebrew and other loaders? I for one would like to have a few Marketplace rips. Now that I won't be online ever again, there are a few games that I just won't be able to play. I don't know how strong the DRM is on the marketplace downloads, but because of the threat of insta-bans, I can see why no one tackled it before. You know that if anyone accomplished this, this ban wave would be MS's comically EPIC mistake.

The part that is missing from this short "tutorial", is that you would either need a time-machine, or had planned this in the past, by getting your secret "cpukey" thru the JTAG/xell hack before M$ had plugged the hole with the summer'09 update (8xxxx) series of dashs. -- So if you machine just recently got banned, you would have the update so you would not be able to get the "cpukey".
The original author of this short "tutorial", had infact being an "elite" had long time ago, dumped his "cpukey", so this was no big deal to him, thinking every true hacker in his right mind would have of course dumped his "cpukey" long time ago.
Anyone that has not in the past years ago, via either "king-kong" exploit or Jtag/xell hack dumped his secret "cpukey" is a true pirate and does not have the right to "unban" his pirate-box, and should just go and spend some money on a second console, which being the true pirate he is, mod it right away, so he can be playing L4D2 (wave5) and get old M$ ban hammer again!
Anyone that is "elite" and planned ahead and dumped their "cpukey", long before even thinking of modding their machine or even playing a game on it, and not caring of his/her gamertag is cool or not, has earn the right to "unban" him/her self, and be playing again on M$ live kicking everyone ass.

With the level of bans this time around, i have no doubt this will spur on the real hackers to try and find a work around, and hopefully resulting in home brew and the holy of holy, XBMC for the 360 :). Potential XBL loss has seemingly been the barrier up untill now for many, now it's no longer an issue, happy days hopefully :)

donor consoles arent ever an issue. we all know 360s fail. there are plenty of rrod 360s that are unrepairable in a cost effective method.
cygnos v2 is the key.
USB JTAG will not work for a console that overheats. cygnos is the way to go

You can use this to get HDD installs back/MCE/uncorrupt your profiles assuming you dont have to sign in, in the first place.
This is however, effectively impossible for most people since few people have their CPU key and this is only known to work on older boards.
Basically we need to wait for the following:
1. A new hack
2. an unbanned key, I can see this being leaked on to the net (although online will be useless but good for offline to restore certain functions).
This is beyond stupid. If you are going to use a unban Xbox 360 than what is the point of "fixing" your ban 360 :faceplam:

sad part is you need the donor xbox to be working to so you can load xell on it to pull your cpu key to decrypt the donor KV

I dont think everyone is capable of doing a NAND backup, its not as simple as bootmii.

Let's say you have 1 unbanned console and 3 banned.
If you get the key from the unbanned one, you can place it in the other three, in order to unban them, only for the hard drive functionality.
Surely you can't go on Live with any of the 4 ones (even with the unbanned one), but hard drive functionality will be restored...wouldn't it?
I'm speaking hypothetically here. I haven't even think to try and get the key from any console...
Anyway, just my 2 cents...if any.

It is known for quite a while yet, if anything, the headline should read "Hackers find a way to ban your 2 Xboxs in one go".. :rolleyes:
