also avoid lite ons.
I have had a sony drive for a few years now but its ATA/IDE and can be noisy, my TSST (samsung) drive has worked since Feb however.

Well, i used to like NEC, but the latest ones burn with lots of errors, same goes for samsung. Pioneer is one of the best drives out there, don't know the 2xx models, but i always liked their burners. I have a Sony/Lite-on now, can't complain.

I got a Pioneer DVD writer from scan and I have also got a few Sony/Lite-on from argos, and I must say, in any white printable DVD DL disc that I burn using my Pioneer DVD writer, my 360 backup on come out bad error at roughly 50/51% 9 out of 10 times, however my Sony/Lite-on gives me perfect burns always, so I’ll recommend a lite-on.
And remember one vital point all other versions of Nero burning Rom gives error on DL disc and the only version that works perfectly I’ve found is Nero 8
Hope this helped

I 2nd this, had one for a few weeks now, perfect burns with Verbs everytime.
Also a bit of additional useless trivia, works with Gamecube 8cm DVDR's but they need to be burnt at 4x.

Lol how many discs have you burned with them, they have a 50,000hrs MTBF they are supposed to be one of the best drives for quality burns on dl media.
The new pioneer drives have a new chipset since the 117 so as yet as far as i'm concerned have a lot to prove especially as pioneer have pulled out from europe.
