According to unconfirmed rumors, Sony is in talks with Mozilla over the possibility of porting FireFox over to the PS3. While this sounds promising, obviously there will be a whole lot of security issues to investigate if this browser ever found its way onto the PS3.

We recently received a tip from a source very close to Sony who says that they have been in talks with Mozilla lately about possibly porting firefox over to the PS3. That said, our source made sure to point out that they were unsure if any deal had actually been reached at this point, but it is great news none the less considering the complaints Sony has been getting about the lack of reliability with their current built in PS3 web browser. Throwing firefox into the mix would give PS3 the ultimate advantage when it came to internet functionality. I know I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for this one, and PSInsider will be sure to bring you any updates to this rumor as they become available.

That would be awesome. If there is a PortableApps version of Firefox, there should be one for the PS3 and it should include Flash 10 and work with all the add-ons such as AdBlock Plus.

it truly would be awesome but the one thing that firefox is not is resource friendly. it would be interesting to see how they cope with memory seeing as that was already an issue with the console browser. My guess is it will be a customized firefox a bit like the N900 maemo browser, might even be the same one.

Opera would be a better choice. Just look at Opera Mini 5. Is that was on the PS3, it would be fine.

feasibility is kind of ... low

On pc. Firefox request more ram than other browser.
Only posible is Mozilla Fennec. But it's kind of ... slow & buggy.

When ps3 have only 256mb of main memory + 256mb of gpu memory. and already have browser.

Hopefully all plugins will run on the PS3 as well. Then install user agent switcher to report that it is a different browser and Hulu will be unable to block the PS3.

you don't need addons to change your UserAgent. I'm pretty sure you can change it using "about:config" (type that in your URL bar but be careful "there be dragons" :D)
and changing your preference string under
"general.useragent.extra.firefox:"
to whatever you want.

maybe they will go with a older version of firefox like 2.0 to lower ram usage.
But ff is a cool feature to add. That would get around the need for a netflix disk.
