Our insider source at Datel has just told us that their updates for the blocked unofficial memory cards have been tested and are working fine! Now he tells us that the new memory card replacements from Datel could be shipping as early as next week!

Well they will work until at least spring when microsoft updates the dashboard again with some stupid **** that really hides a new way to block those updated memory cards.

Isn't it great that a retail company has to battle with another retailer. If I were madcatz, I'd dump the entire M$ line. Let the people who like M$ 360's pay max price for everything. The customers deserve it and if retailers would walk away from M$, so would the customers. Customers of M$ must be paying about 400 each to buy games and be on Live.

That would be a great idea, thumb your nose at Microsoft and in the process cut yourself off from 30 million or so potential customers. That makes perfect business sense.

The memory card ban was so you couldn't have backups your saves or profile. It provide the teeth behind the new banning process.

Maybe if Datel didn't sell product lines that tried to work around legit ways of doing things this wouldnt of happened. Game saves come to mind.

Im on the fence on this one. There should be a free market, but you should also respect the manufacturers wishes.

I remember when Nintendo held companies hostage with their "Seal of approval"

I applaud your neutrality but Datel is clearly at fault here. I'm pretty anti-datel anyway but a lot of people won't wake up until they break their system of choice. I should imagine while Datel changes a few bits of code here and there Microsoft is busy looking for their work in the product ready to sue.

Remember it only took for Datel to announce its intent to clone a Sony chip inside a battery for Sony to destroy their whole line of battery products.. this is the kind of company we're dealing with, one that's no longer marketing batteries :p

Is it so hard to accept that these companies only want licensed devices for a reason? remember even the PS2 manual clearly states that use of unlicensed devices may cause damage to your system and will void your warranty.. heck in the early days of PS3 you only had to tell Sony you weren't using a Sony branded HDMI cable for them to cancel your warranty.

P.S if you thought Microsoft's HDD pricing was bad (120gb for £60-70) look at this http://uk.codejunkies.com/Products/PS3-MAX-Drive-160___EF000579.aspx

I remember using Madcats memory cards for the PS2 32 and 64MB ones... very nice :)

I would be pretty pissed off if Sony deliberately broke them on me...

They were licensed. Datel's are not.

The difference here is datel rips off not only the manufacturers of the consoles but the consumers as well...they really are the bottom feeders of the console world. Remember last gen with the whole gamecube freeloader debacle? It was rendered inoperable less than a year after it was released...Datels answer was if you purchased it within 90 days they would refund..otherwise too bad for you. Look at their answer to updates on the Wii causing problems with the Max Media Manager...basically its that they cant do anything about updates Nintendo makes and your SOL. I just dont understand why anyone would support them, they are a freakin joke.
