Good stuff here. If you own a PS3 or any other DivX certified device then you can claim and download a free DivX movie officially. There's a bit of choice at moviepromo.divx.com but Batman Begins gets our vote right about now.

What a pain in the ass lol.
To start you didnt even put a proper link..
But you have to make an account if you dont have one, And make sure you download the PC divx player even if your doing this for your ps3.
It will give you a divx activation movie that you have to put on your ps3 and play for about 20 seconds.
Then....
You have to open the divx player and open the file for your movie....
Then it will say you have to update so it puts an adware version of divk in just for the hell of it...
Then you have to re log into the new divx player..
Then go to your email and get the confirmation download link and re open it with the new divx player..
Now wait an hour or 2 depending on your connection. Mine says 1:36 but it changes.

Its a pain but its a free legal movie.
I got Ace ventura because I already have batman on bluray

I did it and the file i downloaded is a .tix file. I don't see how this is supposed to work on my ps3...

Too much crap, if I was to watch a movie on my ps3 I'm sure there's simpler ways than this.

This is also a ploy by DIVX inc to get you to update your software.

Some websites use the .part filetype to stream video content into embedded divx web players, DIVX inc is now has video content affiliates so they've blocked the feature. Isn't that nice of them? :D

That's fair enough, Id rather warn people than let them walk into things blindly. Anyone concerned can uninstall once they have their freebie and install the old version http://www.oldversion.com/download_DivX_6.8.4.html. Everybody wins :)

Luckily I never use the web player so I get a free film for something I'll never use again :D

The other reason they want you to do this is to get you into their service, similar to how valve give demos of their stuff which requires steam with certain GPUs.

Personally unless its dirt cheap I would rather have the physical media.

Can't complain really.

It took 5 minutes to set up and it's free.

I normally use the free Xvid codec (mainly for speed) but I downloaded the free Green Lantern Movie and I must say, the Divx codec compression used in version 7 gives you a much better sound and picture quality than version 6 while maintaining or even shrinking the filesize.

Nice to see it also supports .mkv files - if only the PS3 version did!

xvid on flashdrive is the easiest way to watch movies on ps3.

Torrent any avi movie and put it on the ps3. Press play and watch the movie. :cool:

Well I just didn't want to go out and say it, but I don't really watch movies on my ps3... aside from MGS4 LOL! BAZZING!
