US Airforce looks to buy 2,200 PS3's for research supercomputer

According to a document posted on the federal government's web site, the US Air Force is aiming to buy approximately 2,200 PS3's in order to build a research super computer.

If they had bought 360 they would have found that there is no install another OS option unlike old PS3's, they may well have tried 360's if the option was there, but can't use somthing tho when there is no option there to use it that way :rolleyes:

What are they supposed to do order them from Ebay and Craigslist? The 40, 80 and 160 gig models of old have all been discontinued...a few retailers may have them left on the shelves but Sony isnt making any more of them.

and yeah, if they wanted the whole units... where the **** are they gonna get them GT-RRR? the otherOS units are extinct. they are no longer in production and the time is ticking before they YLOD. you cant exactly go on craigslist and ask for 2000+ ps3s and expect that kind of order to be filled.

and yeah, they probably would have a better chance getting linux on 2200 360s. xell hackable 360s are still readily available and i believe that the 360 linux isnt as bareboned like ps3s with its anti RSX support.

but again, this is all rubbish as appearantly they just want the CPU before it becomes extinct as well (rumours rumours)
