Big rumor here. Apparently there is reason to believe that Modern Warfare 2 is putting the number of RRoD's for the Xbox 360 up on the increase. Perhaps its all too much to handle for some of the older models?

Reports have been rolling across the Gamesmen Media Desk, as of the last four days, from our small community and their friends lists. Reports about what, you say? The dreaded Red Ring of Death, of course. If the numbers multiply on a percentage basis, it would seem that Xbox360’s could very well be dropping like flies. Again. What game was spooling and spinning as these unfortunate circumstances occurred? Modern Warfare 2.

Has nothing to do with the game itself. It's just currently the most popular 360 game out right now so the most likely to be the game being played when the person's 360 kicks the bucket. Mine died playing Assassin's Creed II but I don't blame the game, it's the faulty hardware.

Funny how reports of breakage tend to occur shortly after the release of a game people actually want to play, hey? Perhaps the real puzzle around shovelware continuing to be released despite being a lousy business model can safely be considered solved?

you know what, i thought the same thing cept the fact that it happened to 2 of my xboxs. both got e74 after exstensive playtime on mw2, both were 2007 models as well. dont matter, both r fixed now. and 1 is banned and other is not.

Yess they can so long as the seal is not broken on the case after you have reverted the firmware. Many 360's have seals in places when they come nowhere near showing when a case is opened, so no broken seal means no voided warranty. I know of people that have done this, i myself have done it twice for friends (i work at home a lot so it's easier to get stuff delivered to me).

Try to start a repair ticket on a banned console. Maybe it was possible in the past, but it doesn't work anymore. Having your console banned from Live also voids the warranty.

Ok just to join in...

I had this happen on My halo xbox and a 2nd xbox while playing MW2.
It wasnt the game technicly that caused it, but the game does max your 360 out.
Funny thing is, I turned the xboxes off, and turned them back on to see them boot fine with a big YOUR BANNED messge pop up lol

This doesn't seem very fair...

Modern Warfare 2, one of the biggest games and tons of 360-players are missing out because of faulty hardware. :(

Mine is an April 2006 model and 14 hours of non-stop MW2 and AC2 play without any issue.

Seems like a very probably explanation.... much more logical than the game breaking the system. I've always thought that to be stupid. Is the game sending self destruct requests to the console or something? I can understand the game pushing the hardware, but even still the hardware would be at fault in that case as far as I'm concerned.

Hm... that sucks. I think there's a rumor saying it causes YLOD too, how come that was reported?

Yea...there are threads about that one in most places but here...

I think in both cases its due to the console being played to the point of overheating...the game really taxes both systems and some people think they have do marathon gaming sessions.

Say something bad about the 360 and 50 fanboys will claim to have an uncle whos friends brother had the exact same thing happen...meanwhile say something bad about the PS3 and you get the same fanboys acting like Luke after being told by Vader that he is Lukes father...crying and claiming its not true...

Maybe that's why there are **** all PS3's being reported of YLoD because it will take A LOT to make that machine overheat!

Overheating a 360 is a walk in the park...
