firstly please excuse the n00b mistakes as i'm very new to all this.

bought another wii the other day and when i fired it up i noticed it was 3.4e firmware (all our others are 4.2e) so i thought i'd softmod it and use it as a "try before you buy machine", i followed the excellent softmodding for dummies guide (and used the software it linked to) but thats where things started to go tits up.

i have a bunch of channels i cant use (news, weather and shop), the mii channel seems to crash from time to time, i've loads of channels missing that are on the other wii's so my first question is can any of those be made to work?

now to games, gamecube games and backups seem to work fine except ikruga which works fine in its original form but the backup corrupts the screen however with wii stuff its causing me to want to rip out my hair, early games work fine but newer ones (ghostbusters, metroid trilogy, csi2, new smb (iso and fixed version), wii sports resort, boy and his blob and several others) all result in either blue screens with an error message or a green screen crash, now i cant simply load the originals on this machine as some of them want to do a system update, cant remember which ones but some do), same problem with wiiware / vc stuff almost all wads install ok but crash the wii when i try to run them (all iso files have been run through brickblocker prior to burning onto verbatim dvd-r's with imgburn at 4x (except metroid which needed a dl disc and runs fine right upto the moment you try to start any of the 3 games then locks up / freezes)).

can anyone help me and save my hair? please answer in english and i'll understand as i do pick things up very quickly but if you answer in tech i'm afraid its likely to shorten my hairs expected lifespan.

Use WiiSCU (system channels updater) to get your channels working. But I'm afraid to say for your games... It really helps to at least have a basic understanding of how the wii works, as well as excellent Googling skills.

Do what rnelson said for the channels.
What cios rev have you installed ? What backup launcher are you using ?

i used wiiscu already, thats made no difference at all to the above mentioned channels, it did make the mii channel buggy and it did not install any of the additional channels, i did not use the isos updaters on it though as i didnt understand what they were for and didnt understand the +/- trucha (sp?).

i'm using whatever cios rev that the softmod for dummies installer put on, same goes for the backup launcher i've no clue how to check, the homebrew channel just says cios installer and the wii game launcher just says wii backup launcher there doesnt appear to be a version number just an option to press 1 after launching it to get to an options screen which gives a few options for

language default
force ntsc/pal60/pal50
vidtv patch
hook type (default to gc pad)
ocarina on: no

thats it.

Install cios rev 14 and Neogamma rev 7 or beta 8 and your backups should work fine.

ok, i found cios r15 installer i assume that goes in my sd card apps folder and launches from hbc but do i need to uninstall the previous cios version first?

as to neogamma i got r8b15 but firstly i dont know where to put the neogamma folder on the sd (or how to boot it) and looking at the readme it seems to say that it will not work at all with cios r15, is that right? and again do i need to remove the wii backup launcher channel before installing this new one?

do i need to update any of the other ios's using that wiiscu and what settings are needed, will that get the store etc working?

sorry for being a complete **** over this but to me its all new, i just wish it was on the ds then i'd be happy and wouldnt need to bug anyone.

hours on google later......

i now have cios rev 14 and neogamma v8b15 installed i reran wii scu and wii shop still just reboots so no joy there.

of the previous failures boy and his blob and ghostbusters now work, csi dark impact now works upto where you select a game then reboots, wii sports resort and metroid trilogy still cause crashes and the others just reboot the wii any ideas?.

one other thing, neogamma appears in my hbc and not on my channels menu can that be fixed?
