Should I update it or hold off to see where this new modding is going? I got this one cheap off ebay to be my new online box but seeing as how the dash isn't that new I was thinking of hacking it.I am just confused about these new boots coming out that promise a return to the way the old xbox was.

Hold off - Don't update it!! You'll regret it when Freeboot takes off

Really? I thought the new version of freeboot worked with the slightly newer kernel?

AFAIK It reboots into a patched version of that Kernal, it still needs the JTAG Exploit on pre 8xxx Kernals.

Oh I see - in that case I stand corrected!! Still trying to repair a pre-NXE redlighter that I know would be ideal for JTAG and freeboot.
Moar reading needed methinks
Thanks for the info Oggy

So pretty much I'm should just update and play it?
I was hoping this one would be early enough, guess I was wrong. Isn't there a way around it?

Depends. Freeboot is being constantly worked on and there could be support for later kernel revisions at some point in the near future (or not)
Depends what you want the box for - if your not bothered by homebrew you may as well update and get on live, if you wanna have the ability to potentially have a play with the homebrew later, wait.
At the end of the day it has to be your call though....

I bought it to replace my banned console and to shut my friend the **** up who was being all high and mighty that I got banned. So really it was just bought for live, but I saw the early dashboard loaded and thought I'd ask before I update.
