View Full Version : Video: New Super Mario Bros Wii runs in 1080p
Cool viewing here. The Dolphin emulator is reportedly capable of running the New Super Mario Bros on Wii at 1080p. However, apparently the video looks slow because it was recorded at 30fps while the emulator itself was running at 60fps.

It makes no sense for it to be that slow if that emulator was running at 60fps. It looks about half speed, so it would have to have been recorded at 60fps then halved to 30 for the web to make it half speed. Think about it. Shooting at 30fps is effectively taking out every other frame in the video (compared to a video at 60fps), so it would look faster than 60fps, not slower. Especially since the animation still looks smooth. i'm therefore inclined to say that either this video was recorded at 60fps and scaled down for the web, or the emulator did not run this at 60fps.

EXACTLY the emulator does not run full speed, not only that but there is still alot of things missing. Like the spinning coins, textures, shadows, and so on. But this is getting very close to the real thing, and I think Nintendo made a horrible decision to keep the wii at 480i or the fake 480p widescreen.

I think the original explaination is correct

Anyone else think that this will be a standard feature in the "Wii 2"? The ability to play Wii games upscaled to 1080p.

Yes, but that only works if they actually recorded it at 60fps, and it states that they recorded it at 30. However, if they did record it at 60fps, then you are right.

It's clearly running slower than the game actually does. If you've played it before, you can tell.
The music is normal speed, but the animations are not. The music doesn't go out of synch, so you know the game speed is slow.
Just watch the animation after the flag pole...
It's significantly slowed down. This is expected. It's the emulation core (CPU registers / opcodes, interaction between buses and components) that's slow, not the graphics rendering. It would probably run full speed on an Intel Core i7 CPU. Any half-decent GPU could easily handle Wii-level graphics at 1080p.

Looks great! Perhaps this is just because it looks so different on my TV, but the green Koopa Troopers yellow heads and arms look a little flat to me, is that a graphical glitch or is it just due to the much higher resolution?
