Metacritic, the highly popular reviews aggregation site has revealed that the PS3 is this year's power ranking champion. The award takes into account a number of factors despite the 360 having the highest scoring games. However, the Wii did receive the HIGHEST amount of titles over the year at 362.

Reviews aggregation site Metacritic has revealed its 2009 Game Platform Power Rankings charts, and it’s the PS3 that has emerged as this year’s champion.

The chart combines a number of factors but is designed to name the platform that has consistently delivered the best quality software over the last 12 months.

Xbox 360 was the console that actually finished with the highest number of positively reviewed games, with 88 titles scoring 75 or higher overall. In addition, the Wii received the highest number of new titles – 362 throughout the year.

It also had nearly 100 more games thrown into the mix. The PS3 had more GREAT reviews, compared to the PC and 360, it had 10 while the other two had 7 each...just goes to show that its all about quality and not quantity.

Yes.. Its quality and not quantity that counts. If we wanted quantity, why do we skip "quantity games" then? ;) Too many games, means alot of crap.

Look at PSX, PS2 and Wii and how much crap thats released.;) Alot of CRAP is the reason why a console is becoming #1..LOL

Dreamcast, Gamecube and N64 did have quality over quantity.

Right but its a critic site which means people that actually judge a game based on its quality...not a popularity constest...sadly as the gaming audience leans more towards the casual part timers reviews mean less than a cool picture on the cover or gimmicks.

Wow, next you'll be saying it needs to be upgraded every time you turn on the PC.

Thats true.. No matter what reviews says, i only use them as a pointer. I spent alot of time on several "mediocre" games. If its fun, i play it. :)

On Wii, i'm sure a cool cover art sell certain games good. It feels like 95% is ****, on Wii, but thats not true. There is 10% or so with high quality, and 15% perhaps on mediocre games. The rest is less than average, or rock bottom.

I agree... people see different game as being fun for different reasons.

People hate halo and it sells millions of copies and people play it for years after its release.

reviews should be a guideline to see if the game sparks intres in what your looking for and suites your tastes.

2 many people are sheep and only live for games they are told are great and skip by other games missing out on the fun they have to offer.

Wii games may not get rated good, but the wii is still the #1 selling system and people buy games for it and have fun with it.

Yeah...I never followed hype myself, because i had to try the games myself if possible.
I use a review as a guideline, but if a game gets atleast 6/10 rating.. it may be a winner to me..LOL

One thing i dont like is that most reviewers look at each others reviews to know what score to give a game, especially on internet. Paper magazines have much bigger variety on scores because they use their own opinion, and not others.

And Halo...so many hate it, and so many buy it....I have a theory about why.. ;)

8 million 14 year old kids get 1 game each year at their birthday, and they choosed Halo for the next year because all their friends says its the best.
They got COD 4 for xmas present. ;)

They cant get any other games between, because thy got the expansions/add-on's the next year as presents, or a new 12 month Live subscription..LOL

This is why Halo 3 and COD 4 is always #1 on Live. hehe

Anyone agree? ;-)

pretty much, if it's one thing nintendo has taught us, if you win over the kids you get a ton of sales.

i especially say this about halo, although other games fall in this catagory too.

anyway ps3 did win 2009 i guess even if the only game i really liked was killzone 2, but i still want to get infamous, looks good enough.

Yes.. I recently bought Infamousm myself and it kinda reminded me of Bionic Commando.
I think both is good. :)

Oh.. The word Nintendo is related to kids, and parents think its safe to buy anything Nintendo make.. and it is..

BUT

Wii still got 3 of the most violent games this generation.. Manhunt 2, No More Heroes and Mad World.

Kids love bloody games, because they think its mature..hehe ;)

I dunno most of the people I know that play halo and try to get me into it are in their 20"s-30's. Must be the crowd I hang out with, now with GTA on the other hand I know of exactly one adult that actually likes the series and he is a cop. :) I dont get the halo thing myself..but most 360 owners I know like it, frankly I'd rather play an RPG...just about any RPG, but I dont "hate" halo, actually I think its well done for what it is, its just not my thing.

Honestly I think the vast majority of Halo haters belong to one group....Sony fans. For some reason there is evidently some unwritten rule that if you are a fan of one console your required to hate the flagship title of the competition...the same goes with 360 fans in regards to GT and MGS. Neither of those are exactly my thing either...but its undeniable that they are quality titles within their genre.

well this was obvious, the 360 had no games what so ever this year.

Just multi-platform games that were still on the most part better than the PS3 versions but not quite as good as the PC ones. Forza 3 was their only highly rated exclusive, 90 or above. While PS3 had 3 this year.
