A developer has gone on record to reveal he feels that Sony's upcoming motion sensing control scheme is by far the better option over Natal. The dev noted that lag on the input and the lack of physical buttons will really prove to be a stumbling block for Microsoft's device.

While praising Project Natal for its cleverness, Burton expressed serious doubt in the peripheral's ability to play a wide range of games. "Lag on the input and lack of physical buttons is really going to restrict the kind of games that can be done with it," he observed.

Microsoft has been pushing Project Natal to developers behind the scenes, hoping to stir up interest in the creation of exclusive titles. Big publishers such as Ubisoft have eagerly come on board, but Burton's scepticism could be worrisome for Microsoft.

the good thing is.. m$ could release a stupid two peice controller with an infrared led on it at any time.

natal itself can always be tweaked. its just a fucking camera.

is everyone that stupid nowadays to think that natal as it stands is going to be the way it will be 2 years from now?

nintendos wiimotes sucked balls.. they fixed that with wii motion plus.

pseye sucked major major balls.. sony is attempting to fix that with a glow in the dark dildo.

why would m$ and their millions and millions of dollars not be able to add a $3 IR led to a controller?

stupid stupid.

Maybe some anger issues there? You should know by now 3/4 of the news is crap. The only reason I read these threads is to get a good laugh.

Zeus why not link to the source rather than a link 3x removed from the origninal article. Every iteration gets reworded to the websites agenda of course here its no different. The original article actually states that they dont have one and base it on "seeing" it earlier...most likely at TGS like everyone else, where MS themselves stated that there was noticeable lag but that it was not optimized or even close to final and those issues would be worked out, I'd give them benefit of the doubt until they prove otherwise.

i doubt it maters either way, neither will get much more than token support given how they require users to buy new hardware instead of the default like on the wii. Natal may have a slight advantage in that it can be added to normal pad games as a gimic so if you have one you get an extra, but I can't see either being a big deal until next gen by which time all 3 will likley be vastly improved.

That said a realy good game bundled with them may boost sales a bit more, like with likes of Guitar hero.

Anyone how has read hands on reports of Natal would know that it isn't as it appears to be, sure it will be tweaked and we will even get games that are bearable.

But Playstation Eyetoy has showed us that the camera gimmick just doesn't work, EyePet is touted as one of the titles that have been tweaked but in the end doesnt respond as well as you'd like. The infrared in Natal doesn't help the system read the objects, it simply uses that as a light source rather than reading the room, therefore it will be plagued with the same problems.

The PS wand (PS gem?), is different system because it tracks the coloured ball and converts it to a corresponding gesture, therefore there will be little lag in the translation process.

But stuff motion controls they suck.

Ever played on the Eyetoy back in 2003/2004?

There is only so long you can dance around in front of the TV whilst people walk past thinking you've gone fucking insane.

Natal is basically THAT, no different.

PS Eye + PS Gem work together to make it better for people to interact, and judging from the demo's at TGS/E3 it's shaping up pretty well.

Unlike M$'s fake "Natal kid video".

Wii already killed Natal and Gem.

A couple years ago I would have agreed with that but the very game you mentioned proved the "no one buys peripherals" thing wrong...I dont know anyone who doesnt have at least one guitar controller. If its properly bundled both have a good shot of making a decent dent...if the games are worthy.

Is that why it took them an extra 2 years to release the "MotionPlus" crap?

1. Technology alway upgrade. do you remember sixaxis ?

2. I belive Nintendo learn form dual shock - as copycat of n64's controller - so they make this MotionPlus before hand.

But you see the phasing of SIXAXIS to Dualshock 3 is just added rumble which was going to be expected anyway.

The Wii MotionPlus was an "upgrade" because the Wii's initial Motion Capabilities weren't good enough for some.

Given the severe lack of support by even first party titles, I would say that even Sony have forgotten about sixaxis, maybe it was too last gen :)

I was thinking that, but then the hardware comes with the games so it's not quite as bad with guitar hero and the like. Everytime i see things like these tho mid gen, i just keep thinking Eye Toy/360 Cam, as in somthing thats already rcieving next to no support beyond gimic stuff due to limited uptake. I hope they both take off, but unless they get a really good game or games bundled with them, I can't see them having much mass amrket appeal unless they are dirt cheap as they won't be required for games beyond the bundled ones.

I don't know why. Nintendo don't phasing of Wii Remote to Wii Remote plus.

But The Wii Remote is 3 year ago technology that fit in price in it's release date.

It's can't as good as today's technology. But I think Nintendo show that it's can inexpensively upgrade.
