Flatmod and NSMB?

Having recently updated a couple of wasabi chips to get the game working (NSMB) I went to the flatmod site for a new update, but as far as I can make out you need a new chip? strange could of swore they claimed their chip was updateable by DVD like the wasabi DX??
Can any one confirm this is the case.
