SEGA wanted Dreamcast games on original Xbox

New information has come to light that SEGA actually wanted the original Xbox to play its catalog of Dreamcasst games. However, things fell through when the two parties could not reach an agreement regarding online compatibility.

Sega chairman Isao Okawa visited Bill Gates several times in an attempt to add Dreamcast compatibility to the Xbox, according to former Microsoft executive Sam Furukawa.

It was hoped that it would give the console some resurgence after the PlayStation 2 was released Kotaku reports.

However, negotiations fell apart when Okawa insisted that online compatibility was kept for Dreamcast games, which Microsoft disapproved of.</blockquote>

wow that is a turn up i guess sega was pretty desperate at that point, its a shame they couldn't agree.

I totally believe it. Microsoft was a "partner" in the sense that the DC ran on Windows CE and there were no shortage of "Microsoft is going to buy Sega to get into the console business!" rumores shortly before the XBOX rumors started. Also, Bill Gates denied that the XBOX project even existed up until a month before the official announcement, so he was obviously lying to continue courting their potential "partner" and keep them in the dark about how far along they really were.

Alot of the Dreamcast games have been released on Gamecube and Wii, but there is so MANY more goodies that isnt ported. :(

I still own Dreamcast, so i really dont care. DC still kicks ass. :-D

F*ck them anyways. I still have a *working* DC. My XBOX? Not so much. How many good online games were there for DC? A handful at best.
My original DC is still my fave console (I spent some long nights building and playing NesterDC SE! Them were the days!)

There were only a dozen or so that got any attention but tons of titles that went under the radar that were worthy of playing.

It was a strong rumour before the Xbox was released that it was the play Dreamcast games.
This means that the rumours were true, to an extent.
