Gran Turismo is just 90 percent complete, hence delay

Wonder why GT 5 has again been delayed? It's simple, the game isn't finished yet and has another 10 percent of final tweaking and polish to go. This news comes via an interview at USA Today with the producer of the promising racer.

Thats a odd statement.. like he doesn't even know. That would lead me to think the game isn't 90% done. If its being used for menus, you would think he would know that as menus are the first thing you see when you load the game.

I played the GT demo today. Wow! I really hope this is not future. The reason I say this is because the Forza 3 demo was a carbon copy of the final game.

Forza 3 has these advantages over GT in my opinion

- Handheld Controls
By default they have the button as the gas? A button come on! The closest thing to a gas pedal on a handheld controller is a trigger. Why? Forza 3 going into a turn you can run half throttle. Makes more sense...

- Physics
Wow on this one to! The cars where so hard to control even with the assist on? Strange....

- Graphics
This one is the most confusing. The graphics are comparable to Forza 2. I was really disappointed as they have a long way to go to catch up to Forza 3.

I am so glad you delayed this! Really, you have alot of work ahead of you if you want to keep with your main competitor, Forza 3. The only advantage you have at this point is you have more cars but that really isn't a selling point in my eyes. Get to work....

Actually this is great news, a year or so back when we were in japan doing meet and greets, we spent some time at polypho, and the way they had things set up there used sixaxis to look around the interior of the car - while you were driving, it had a bit of a dead zone so it wasnt completely unusable, but even still, when you lean forward a bit to concentrate and your arms naturally drop or lift a little, only to find yourself staring at the sun visor or steering wheel, instead of the tricky corner ahead, it was ... shall we say, less than approved of by our team.

Well back in late September it was supposedly 65% complete...so at least they sped it up a little....65% in 4 years and 25% of the game in 4 months...makes me think its all just arbitrary numbers.

Busy cutting out stuff to be sold later as DLC. I really don't care about additional 299 Nissan Skyline models, however it piss me off that 3D mode was cut out to be sold as special edition and/or DLC.

Your right and good point. M$ has been pumping out DLC for Forza 3 every month since launch (dates below).

To be honest, with all the claims and delays, this better have better realism, customisation and handling than forza and better have better pick up and play appeal than NFS otherwise even if it's a good game (which i have no doubt it will be even after the dire PS version) it will be a disappointment to me.

In the end.. this is just another game that 3 months after release people will be wanting the next version, just like every other good racer.

I know people who bought a launch ps3 just for this 1 game, when it was GT HD. Its pure sad to see people try and defend this game and the time it takes to make.

Its 1 thing to wanna play this and be looking forward to it... but its another to try and justify a game sony hyped before ps3 even came out and still not deliver on it.

gt5 was suppose to compete with forza 2... even if the game wasnt better or perfect gamers deserve something more than a payed demo and a reg demo.

I don't think anyone really minds waiting. It seems that the problem is all the missed deadlines. Avatar wasn't promised to us last year and such. We, as gamers, should appreciate the effort hard working developers put into their games, but they should've just left the game as TBA until they were sure of a release date.

I agree some games could use more polish.... but 5 years is insane.. you either 1 took on to big a project or 2 you didnt hav ethe team to make it.

Need for speed is a perfect example. Might not be the best racer ever.. but you can count on it every year and look forward to it. Will it get rated 95%? probably not but it usually is a fun game and well worth playing.
Now if need for speed waited 5 years and just packed all 5 other need for speeds into 1 massive game would it be the bomb? Yes it would rule and be well worth the money. But the dev studio would be out of business due to the lack of funds vs what they make every year releasing a game on every system including NDS!

If you had to choose bewtween gt5 or need for speed and you could only choose 1 for a racer this gen, what would you choose? Need 4 speed! Its simple a game every year is fun every year. A promise and a delay every year is crap.

The ironic thing is, most people are like 'wtf sony what are you going', but Sony arent the ones delaying it, Polyphony are, and have been doing so for the past 3 years.
Frankly i feel it's a case that while they developed their game, other games came out, and they felt GT5 wasn't good enough to appear vastly better, and they've found themselves stuck in a cycle of wanting to be better than the competition so long that every time a new game comes out theyre delaying further to try and outdo it.

Part of me thinks we'd be looking at a jan 2010 release if Forza 3 didn't exist.

Poor show from polyphony really, if they spent as much time wrapping things up as they did fiddling with making the original demo, then Prologue, then updates for Prologue, and now Timetrial, maybe they wouldnt be so far behind.

It doesn't help either that companies keep coming to them with new cars to add, for example, i've seen them working on a Lexus FLA model.

In my opinion they should finish up and do the rest of the tweaks and changes via updates, if they delay any further people are going to be that sick of waiting that when it's out they wont give a **** anymore - i'm sure most of them already feel that way even now.

I dont really see that many bitching about it, to most its more amusement than anything else. The ones who appear to be complaining the most seem to mostly be those who weren't interested to start with or worse don't even have a PS3 and are simply looking for excuses to slag it.

Its not like complaining is going to get the game released any sooner...the amusement is simply the hype/delay cycle its been going through, its gotten to the point that if there is some press about why its supposed to be the best thing ever you can just about count on an announcement of another delay within a week or so. He'll I have plenty to play, so i'm in no hurry for it, but you have to admit its getting a Duke Nukem Forever type reputation.

Well that example would not hold water with most people i know, appart from the 3d effects, most people I know who have seen the film thought it was tedious and twice as long as it needed to be, so it's all in the eye of the beholder. I myself got very very bored watching it, reminded me of the nightmare before christmas, if it had been an hour long it would have been fine all the rest was tedious space filler. The film was another jurassic park, just an effects show case with a ropey story.

GT5 has to live up to the competition , if it's only as good as the them tho then it's clearly not worth the development time as games with shorted development times would equal it. It needs to be far and above what the competition offers (which going by prologue it hasn't so far) to make that long development time and delays mean anything.

If i could choose only 1 racer this generation, i would select "Forza 3"...Not GT 5 or NFS ;)

With asll the GT 5 delay, there shouldnt be any bug fix the 1st 6 months as someone else here mentioned.
