PS3 - Officially Hacked

I have read/write access to the entire system memory, and HV level access to the processor. In other words, I have hacked the PS3. The rest is just software. And reversing. I have a lot of reversing ahead of me, as I now have dumps of LV0 and LV1. I've also dumped the NAND without removing it or a modchip.

3 years, 2 months, 11 days...thats a pretty secure system

Took 5 weeks, 3 in Boston, 2 here, very simple hardware cleverly applied, and some not so simple software.

Shout out to George Kharrat from iPhoneMod Brasil for giving me this PS3 a year and a half ago to hack. Sorry it took me so long :)

As far as the exploit goes, I'm not revealing it yet. The theory isn't really patchable, but they can make implementations much harder. Also, for obvious reasons I can't post dumps. I'm hoping to find the decryption keys and post them, but they may be embedded in hardware. Hopefully keys are setup like the iPhone's KBAG.

Maybe this makes it possible to run (only legal!) games from usb drives :) and maybe better from network drives :cool: The system is fast enough for it...
Unfortunately i have zer0 dev skills, but once the hack is released i'm sure the real devs will welcome it :D

I would love to play my PS2 games via HDD...:(. I 'll keep buying my PS3 games, because I have zero intentions on wasting Bandwidht on 20 GB s ISO.. :D:D

Only a means to poke around at the isolated SPE, and an opportunity to disable features of the isolated SPE in OtherOS in order to enable unrestricted access to system resources in OtherOS only.

This is unusable when it comes to PS3 Slim owners, and unless some method of peeking at the encrypted isolated SPE data yields some success, we're back at square 1 - Unrestricted access to hardware in OtherOS (which is what Sony should have done from the beginning ffs!) and a secure GameOS still.

Prolly this is unrelated & if the babelfish translation is correct, but how in the world u run an emu on PS3 via usb pen drive (without linux)? did sum1 manage to run unsigned sh!t on PS3?

gota say bable suxs when it comes to translateing stuff. this isnt unsigned code. some one has managed to get a (basic linux) install on a usb that has emulators on it with roms, kinda like a live cd you would use for your pc but this just has the emulators from what i can gather.

if i can find the package that was posted on that site il post it here.

i have no idea how to confirm this info that I got from another site, but apparantly, the PS3 has 3 levels of security and Geohotz only hacked the first level.
