GeoHot's PS3 exploit confirmed working on firmware 3.10

GeoHot has just added to his blog post that he has confirmation that his exploit works on PS3 firmware 3.10! He added that there seems to be compile issues on Fedora but he did things in Ubuntu.

I can tell your not a Linux person.

Nvidia or ATI drivers (in this case Nvidia) are really not open source they use binary blobs. There are open source drivers but they are a "Work In Progress" at best. For some people they work just fine but for others they suck.

Now that the minor Linux lesson is over I can glaze over the PS3 end of it.

The PS3's graphics card is somewhat custom so writing a working driver will take a while (probably months) I am not sure how much of the open source driver can be used on the PS3's Linux, if any at all. X86 being completely different then coding for the Cell. (I am sure some of the code can be recycled I just am not sure how much as I am not a Linux Guru myself)

i could be wrong but i thought i once read somewhere that the PS3 rsx was more or less a 7800gtx or something like that. i also seem to recall that it wasn't specialized very much for the PS3 because sony thought the cell could pull off the graphics on its own but couldn't get it working right so they had to go to nvidia last minute so the gpu wasn't very specialized very much.

i know there is some debate over this though if i remember the fanboys fighting over specs of the PS3 and 360 and arguing which is best. on a different note i wonder what the PS3 could have done with a gpu with more memory. the PS3 was build right when gpu's where starting to see a memory bump. i have a graphics card from a couple of years ago and it seems the 256mb of memory really hurts it. you can't even seem to buy a gpu with under 512mb of memory and it seems 1gb of memory is becoming the standard.

Well it seems u miss that ps3 has games like the 2 motorstorms which graphically nothing came close on the x360 and the first motorstorm was a day one launch x360 with all these years still couldnt pull such a heavy game(god it even kinda exploded with the first mcrae dirt game....
Same for uncharted i have both the console and ps3 is clearly superior. Halo 3 is another example of that... If the x360 was so powerful why they didnt pulled something graphically as killzone ????

But DeadBabies Extreme is one of the most fun addictive games you will ever play.

But i would say it died when Alonetiro and Yoshi started bringing out the ISO Loader on the PSP.

Right after that, everyone with the ability to swap 2 Memory-Sticks thought he is a damn good hacker.

Before that, it was the most wonderful thing to be part of the scene, sharing ideas and sourcecode without having the fear that some idiot steal it and giving no credits.
But around July 07 (i think so...can't remember ... was my hardcore weed time :) ) people starting to steal anything they could, bashing anyone etc etc etc ....

I hope the ps3 will NEVER be hacked in a way to play backups, just good old homebrew $hit (want to see XBMC running on it). Maybe then some feeling of the old scene can relive.

hope it works on the latest FW too, this exploit reminds me of the hooded guy who 1st exploited the xbox360 now look whats going on with that system. i doubt very much that this time next week we will see the ps3 hacked open fully, but its a start.

don't own both? eh, i've got two 360's a wii and the ps3 actually sitting on the same stand. killzone was nothing to write home about, i've yet to even finish it. i've yet to finish any halo title either, personally halo is over rated. motorstorm isn't proof either. the only title you mention vaguely is uncharted, but uncharted could be done on 360. now uncharted 2 is the best game i've ever played, no doubt about it. i'm not gonna get in a pissing contest cause there are some 360 exclusives that look absolutely great too, but with multiconsole titles, they usually end up better on 360.

i'm pretty sure it (the hack) may work on 3.15 consoles. i thought i was at 3.15 on my ps3, but i turned it on last night and when i logged into psn it said a console update was needed. so instead of updating, i checked first and i'm still at 3.10, so i'm not too worried about online multiplayer, so i'll just wait things out and see what happens in the ps3's future.

i've got a dual layer bd burner and i'm ready for the future either way ..

doubt all you want hero, i have a 60gb launch ps3, i had a launch 360 (died) and have 2 jasper 360's and the wii. i've had an xbox 1, which i took to iraq with me and it survived many a dust storm and a mini tornado which destroyed our tents.

people get stuck in their preferred console fantasies, where as i game on all and all are (but the wii) on equal footings.

once you get passed the teen years you'll realise that there are more than one alternative to gaming.
