I've been trying for about a day now to get official PSone classics to run on CFW.
I currently have a PSP 1000 series with 5.50 GEN-D3 installed. The firmware version seems to be irrelevant as I have tried on various versions of M33 CFW. I have got popsloader on the memory card also which is also enabled and still I can not run the games.
When I try to load the game I get the error message "Game could not be started. (80020148) which if I remember correctly was an error given when playing UMD ISO's without enabling the M33/Sony driver.
What else can I try to get them to work?

1)Your custom firmware does have a ps1 emulator built into the firmware. It's called pops.

Error 80020148 means that the PRX type is unsupported.

Do you understand that you can't just run your ps1 games as .iso files though, right? You must use a converter which converts your ISO's into an eboot.pbp

2)Put floder and eboot in this way.
example
X:/PSP/GAME/MEGAMAN/EBOOT.pbp

Choose a brief name around 8 characters to be sure.;)

3)Maybe you try to run a official PSN store Psx game. Usually they have lastest official firmware. (last is 6.20).

If psx game from PSN has 6.20 you can't run it on 5.50GEN D3.

My own conversions of games work fine no problems there. It's just getting official ones to work which I download from the PSN. FF7 seems to be the only official game that works.

I can't think of any other problems because Crash Bandicoot was a launch title for PSone classics and even that doesn't work on my current version of CFW.

Also for some reason when I load any of the PSone classics and hold down R to load the pops version changer nothing happens, I either get that error I mentioned or in FF7's case the game loads as normal but the pops version changer doesn't show up.

What else should I attempt to get them working?

This is very strange, because FF:VII from PSN need 6.00 firmware to work. Inside 6.00 Popstation there is the full compatibility. Then it should not work on 5.50GEN...

I think he just means that it boots, not if it crashes or not

Turn off your PSP properly, Hold R and turn it on to start recovery mode.
There's a menu in there somewhere with POPs/PSP/XMB? .PRX plugin options, change them all to disabled and reboot your psp You'll also need to enable the sony driver once you've done this. they should work fine after that other than bugs due to fixes applied within the newer PSone emulator.

Thanks for all the replies. I will try out everything said. Just to clarify on what one poster said, when I load FF7 I can actually play the game perfectly, no crashes or bugs as expected from an official PSone Classic.

EDIT: Ive reflashed my PSP and I am currently running 3.80 M33, and now FF7 doesn't work.

I have also discovered that the popsloader plugin only seems to work when I'm running an PSX eboot I made myself and not the PSN games.

When trying to run the official games I either get (CA000006) which I can solve by putting keys.bin into each game folder but then I'm back to where I started with the (800xxxxxx) error.

PSN games are designed to use the official emulator FF7 will run perfectly on 5.50, MGS is meant to be okay on 5.50 but FF8 will not run properly on anything below 6.xx-6.20.

If you're having trouble running PSN games on 5.50 GEN D3 change the options that i suggested and change to the sony driver, Even MGS:PW works.

You don't need popsloader for PSN games, popsloader is outdated anyway so until someone updates it or makes it compatible with newer versions of the emulator its kind of pointless.

I have disabled the options you said and I've changed to the Sony driver and I'm still getting error code 80020148.

My recovery settings are:

game folder homebrew-1.5 kernel

Advanced configuration

execute boot.bin-disabled
xmb plugins-disabled

I may end up going back to 6.20, just seems bit stupid that I can't get official PSone classics to work on custom firmware.

I have many games I have ripped from my original CD's and they all work as good as. I purchased the certain games on PSN because I no longer owned the CD versions and because I wanted to play them on the PS3 aswell.

I've eliminated it being a problem with memory stick because I tried my memory stick in a friends PSP which has 6.20 OFW and they all work fine. I have just ran out of ideas completley to get this working.

I haven't purchased any PSP games from PSN so I don't know if they would work. Even if I wanted to that would prove difficult being on custom firmware and the PS3 won't make the connection nor will Media GO.

Thanks for helping, much appreciated. Any more ideas are welcome.

EDIT: For the sake of curiosity I downloaded the an official PSN version of Metal Gear Solid from a torrent site which is NTSC and it works fine on my PSP I live in a PAL region BTW.

All psp games (Psx PSN and PSP game) are region free.

Theoretically, you could not even play the games Psp from PSN. They are in eboot.bpb like Psx game and they have generally last ofw. (6.20). Then you can't run it on 5.50GEN. Only way is to convert and pathing them. But not all game are patchable.

He should be able to run a lot of them unless Sony withdrew them, i have quite a few games that work on 5.50 GEN D3 from the PSN store which i purchased via the PS3 a while back. I agree this is wierd.

Chaos7 more information please, For those games that you purchased that don't work:
Which platform did you purchase them on, PS3 or PSP?
When you purchased which firmware version was your PS3 or PSP on?
Which games were they?

The games I currently have are FF7, FF8, MGS, CTR and Crash Bandicoot.

I purchased all my games on the PS3 itself and that was running whatever the latest firmware is. I purchased FF7 07/06/2009, FF8 04/02/2010, MGS 19/11/2009, CTR 07/01/2010 and Crash Bandicoot 07/01/2010. So PSP firmware wise for FF8, CTR and Crash Bandicoot would be 6.20 but as I said I purchased them on the PS3

I would also like to mention I have upgraded to OFW 6.20 to see if I could possibly make a backup the license data if possible but I cant even get the games to run on OFW now. I can't seem to activate my PSP using its built in PSN features, PS3 or Media GO.

On the PS3 I am getting the error (80029780) while trying to copy the games; which I've researched to be some activation fault when activating so many times at once or something along those lines. I don't see how that can be possible as I have 1 PS3 and 1 PSP. I wouldn't imagine anyone has hacked my account either as I don't play online and no-one else has my details to sign in friendwise.

So now currently I cannot play the games fullstop on PSP without getting a message saying I'm not activated/licensed to play the games.

I'm not sure if all these activation problems would stop the games working on custom firmware but as I mentioned in my last post I got an official NTSC version of MGS and that worked fine.

On first impressions of this problem I figured I must have skipped a setting as it's always something stupid to cause a big problem but that doesn't seem to be the case. I'm extremely computer savvy so it's not like I don't know how to follow instructions or not know how to work the equipment but this just seems to have completley baffled me.

If you need anymore information which can help just ask.

Im no expert just trying to help but i do know there are issues with act.dat that could be your problem.
What i'll ask you to do is connect your PSP to your PS3 and enable USB mode.
Find the activation option on your PS3 and deactivate your PSP.
Next install 5.50 GEN D3 on your PSP.
Now reconnect your PSP and PS3 and transfer MGS/CTR/CB and try them again.

Remember you may need to deactivate those plugin options i suggested earlier.
FF8 is a different subject, just test the ones i suggested for now.

Hmm you can't even deactivate? google has many results for that error code some have shared accounts, many seem to be legitimate problems with no solution from sony support i think 80029780 stands for too many activations 5/5.

The solution to this is a simple one don't sign in to PSN or access your downloads for 3 days, some go as far as to not use the PS3 at all for 3 days.

The other solution is a little more hassle, create a subuser on your PS3, signup for PSN again and use that to activate your PSP while its on 5.50 GEN D3 but obviously this doesn't solve the problem like solution 1 it just works around it.

My final suggestion and id do this after the above as a last resort. Access the PSP flash and copy act.dat to your memory stick/pc, delete act.dat within your flash and trying again. Im not sure of any problems involved with doing this but im sure you could put it back or use a pandora incase of problems.

Really hope this helps you, if it doesn't well let us know in a few days :)

I can deactivate fine on PS3, PSP and Media GO so no problems there.

I'll wait until I dunno Monday or Tuesday and then sign in to see if it works.

I could try activating it to my US account as I haven't registered anything to that yet.

To recovery my PSP I used PSP Tool 1.0 to create the files on the memory stick which allows me to run a test version of 5.00 M33-4, install OFW and install 5.00 M33-4 so how would I access flash0 using that? I'm thinking I can boot into the test version of M33 but it may just give me access to the test version of flash0 which is running off my memory stick.

In M33-X or GEN-D XMB press select, change usb mode to flash 2 i think it is (or is it flash 3?), connect to usb and it'll be there. Remember though if you do this dont reactivate/install a psn game until you're on GEN D3 doing so will just lock the games to that firmware which in the case of 6.20 is not what you want.

Right I'll give that a try, I thought a PSP 1000 series only had flash0 and flash1?

I will wait till next week and see if I can activate first and then try this.

Right, it's Tuesday today so I tried to use the activation again and still no luck. I haven't used either console at all since my last post.

After trying to activate it once on my regular PSN account I decided to try it on another account which has nothing registered to it and I still get the same error message.

My next experiment will be to completley delete all of my flash0 and then reinstall the OFW. I figure maybe theres one file inside which has been corrupted possibly the license file.

Will post my results once I've completed it.

I've formatted all the flash versions using PSP Tool, and created a new IDstorage just in case and still no change. I even borrowed another PSP to see if I could activate on that and still I get the same error message. My only conclusion is that there is either something wrong with both of my PSN accounts or it's the PS3 itself.

UPDATE: I have contacted the Sony support and a very helpful chap told me a few things to try. First of which I need to wait 7 days incase I activated more than x amount of times failing that a complete system format/restore. It seems more than likely the 7 day wait is my best option.

Good to hear that you've had some kind of result, Is that not signing in for 7 days or not activating/trying to transfer software for 7 days.
If you do a format/restore remember to backup your saves :)

The guy told me I can still play singleplayer just avoid anything online based and activation if I can, but to be sure I'm going to leave my PS3 off for the entire week.

I haven't got to worry about losing my gamesaves as that already happened when I was forced to format my PS3 but that's a different story.

Hopefully in 7 days I'll have some good news to post.

As I said I fixed this by allowing the activation limit to reset. This takes 7 days according to Sony and just to be sure I didn't switch on PSP/PS3 for the whole seven days. I was told I could still play single player but for the guaranteed result I just didn't use the console.

So Chaos7, I take it you gave up on trying to run the officially bought PSX games on custom firmware? It seems like it's not worth the hassle after reading this whole thread and that it's not even possible.
